Abstract Background Healthcare cannot achieve net-zero carbon without addressing operating theatres. The aim of this study was to prioritize feasible interventions to reduce the environmental impact of operating theatres. Methods This study adopted a four-phase Delphi consensus co-prioritization methodology. In phase 1, a systematic review of published interventions and global consultation of perioperative healthcare professionals were used to longlist interventions. In phase 2, iterative thematic analysis consolidated comparable interventions into a shortlist. In phase 3, the shortlist was co-prioritized based on patient and clinician views on acceptability, feasibility, and safety. In phase 4, ranked lists of interventions were presented by their relevance to high-income countries and low–middle-income countries. Results In phase 1, 43 interventions were identified, which had low uptake in practice according to 3042 professionals globally. In phase 2, a shortlist of 15 intervention domains was generated. In phase 3, interventions were deemed acceptable for more than 90 per cent of patients except for reducing general anaesthesia (84 per cent) and re-sterilization of ‘single-use’ consumables (86 per cent). In phase 4, the top three shortlisted interventions for high-income countries were: introducing recycling; reducing use of anaesthetic gases; and appropriate clinical waste processing. In phase 4, the top three shortlisted interventions for low–middle-income countries were: introducing reusable surgical devices; reducing use of consumables; and reducing the use of general anaesthesia. Conclusion This is a step toward environmentally sustainable operating environments with actionable interventions applicable to both high– and low–middle–income countries

Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze the impact on daily life activities (DLAs) of pregnant women with lumbar pain complaints, enrolled in the Family Health Strategy. Methods: To collect the data it was used an epidemiological questionnaire, adapted from the Quebec Back Pain Disability Scale (QBPDS), giving emphasis to questions about lumbar pain and Daily Life Activities (AVDs). To the data analysis it was applied the SPSS 16.0, for descriptive statistics of percentage and cross tabs. It was calculated the Prevalence ratio (RP) and the Kruskal-Wallis test, p<0.05 in order to verify the differences between the lumbar pain variable and gestational age. Results: 69.4% of the pregnant women had some activities harmed, especially those who reported feeling lumbar pain daily. All needed assistance to perform the tasks at home. Conclusion: The prevalence of lumbar pain during pregnancy interferes significantly in some daily life activities. Sedentary aging can evolve to depression which interferes both qualitatively and quantitatively on elderly.s quality of life. The present study compared quality of life and depression levels between sedentary and active elderly women. For this, a correlational ex post facto study was employed, the sample was divided in four groups: dance group (DG, n=23; age=70.79±6.36 years-old); weight training group; meditation group and control group. The protocols used in evaluations were World Health Organization Quality of Life Group-old questionnaire (quality of life) and Beck Depression Inventory (depression). In multiple comparisons the results found were satisfying (p<0.05) in dom2, dom3, QVG, dom1 and dom4 variables. Depression also revealed satisfying results: DGxCG (IC=-48.00,-8.86), WGxCG (IC=-53.55,-7.95) and MGxCG (IC=-61.71,-16.11). These results indicate that exercise programs have provoked satisfying results, contributing to better quality of life and depression levels when compared to those presented by the sedentary elderly women.

Objective: This study analyzed the impact of psychosocial factors on pregnant women with lower back pain and an associated lack of physical activity prior to pregnancy. Methods: The sample included 66 pregnant women who were randomly selected from a total of 84 patients in the waiting rooms of the Family Health Units in Cuitegí, Paraíba, from September to November 2009. An epidemiological questionnaire adapted from the Quebec Back Pain Disability Scale was used for data collection. The questions about back pain, physical activity, and psychosocial factors were emphasized. SPSS 16.0 was used for the data analysis. The prevalence of lower back pain and its relationship to gestational age, habitual physical activity, and psychosocial factors were studied using the descriptive statistics and relative percentages in the SPSS Crosstabs procedure. The odds ratio and 95% confidence interval for lower back pain were calculated. Results: The prevalence of lower back pain was 75%, which suggests that psychosocial factors were related to the presence of pain. Anxiety was reported in 42.8% of the women with lower back pain, and 38.7% of the women with lower back pain experienced physical fatigue at the end of the day. A higher percentage of pain (53%) was noted in the women who did not exercise prior to pregnancy. Conclusion: Lower back pain prior to pregnancy is associated with lack of physical activity and with psychosocial factors in the Family Health Strategy patients of Cuitegí county
