Recurrent and Massive Life Threatening Epistaxis due to Nasal Heroin Usage

Epistaxis, active bleeding from the nose, is a common ear nose and throat emergency, and can be severe or even fatal. We report a severe life threatening recurrent massive nasal bleeding caused by intranasal heroin use that has not hitherto been reported in the English literature. A 24-year-old male who took heroin several times nasally presented with massive nasal bleeding. A blood transfusion and an operation to halt nasal bleeding were required. The patient did not experience a bleeding attack 2 months following cessation of nasal heroin use

Exploiting temporal stability and low-rank structure for motion capture data refinement

Inspired by the development of the matrix completion theories and algorithms, a low-rank based motion capture (mocap) data refinement method has been developed, which has achieved encouraging results. However, it does not guarantee a stable outcome if we only consider the low-rank property of the motion data. To solve this problem, we propose to exploit the temporal stability of human motion and convert the mocap data refinement problem into a robust matrix completion problem, where both the low-rank structure and temporal stability properties of the mocap data as well as the noise effect are considered. An efficient optimization method derived from the augmented Lagrange multiplier algorithm is presented to solve the proposed model. Besides, a trust data detection method is also introduced to improve the degree of automation for processing the entire set of the data and boost the performance. Extensive experiments and comparisons with other methods demonstrate the effectiveness of our approaches on both predicting missing data and de-noising. © 2014 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved

Damar Klempsiz Yan-Yana Anastomoz: Arterio-VenZ FistL İçIn Pratik Bir YNtem

The radial artery to cephalic vein fistula (radial AVF, Brescia-Cimino, radiocephalic) is the basic technique in arteriovenous fistula construction before hemodialysis and the side to side anastomosis is commonly used between these vessels. The vessel clamps in bulldog and approximater types are special and crucial devices for anastomosis. When any vascular clamp is not available, we perform side to side anastomosis with a needleholder or an ordinary forceps in arteriovenous fistula operation. This method is easy, practical, and inexpensive, and may successfully be used in this operation.

Repair Of A Large Pharyngocutaneous Fistula With The Free Dorsalis Pedis Flap

Postoperative pharyngocutaneous fistulas are the relatively frequent complications of total laryngo-oesophagectomy. Despite various treatment strategies have been mentioned in the literature, ideal method for closure of the large pharyngocutaneous fistulas is still controversial. In this report we have succesfully closed a large pharyngocutaneous fistula with free dorsalis pedis flap after ablation of oesophageal cance

Minimal Invasive Excision Of Intraorbital Dermoid Cyst

Orbital dermoid cyst is a rare tumor for which the pathogenesis remains unclear. It is usually located in the lateral side of the orbita, and may also rarely be observed in the intraorbital region. In this cases, aggressive treatment is necessary for the success because recurrence rate is high. But it should work delicately because of the risk of the eye damage. We report three cases with intraorbital dermoid cysts who were successfuly treated by using a minimally invasive surgery. Eye movements and visual functions were normal in all patients. No recurrences or complications appeared postoperatively. We think that it is possible to excise dermoid cysts totally using a classical surgical technique, including an anterior approach, by careful dissection under loupe magnification
