A future for the graduate without a future

We have an innovative generation of graduates without a future. They make opportunities, work and non-work, creativity and protest, using their unprecedented information-richness. But we need a new economy. This can involve a redistribution of work so the unemployed become employed. For everyone this means rethinking the importance of income, consumption and growth, with positive effects for the climate change crisis. Mobility is a human right, more restricted than other types of globalization. It can match people to opportunities and boost growth and jobs. Alongside non-work and mobility are traditional left elements: investment over austerity, fairer taxes and distribution, regulation of the economy, an expanded alternative co-operative sector, and the foundations that a basic income and welfare state can provide for security and freedom. Today’s graduate has a future in an economy of redistributed work, mobility, public services and economic equality – its ideas fired by social movements and implemented via political ones

Contribution of Turkish Researchers to the World’s Biomedical Literature (1988-1997)

The contribution of Turkish researchers to positive sciences is increasing. Turkish scientists published more than 5.100 articles in 1998 in scientific journals indexed by the Institute for Scientific Information’s Science Citation Index, which elevated Turkey to the 25th place in the world rankings in terms of total contribution to science. In this paper, we report the preliminary findings of the bibliometric characteristics (authors and affiliations, medical journals and their impact factors, among others) of a total of 8.842 articles published between 1988 and 1997 by scientists affiliated with Turkish institutions and indexed in MEDLINE, a well-known biomedical bibliographic database

Surah Yasin has been probably the mostfrequently read chapters of the Quran, in our country.Numerous benefits are associated with its reading, especiallyin the mornings or whenever there is any difficult situation;or if someone is critically ill; or just for barakah. You getinvited for reading it in gatherings; like khatam-e-Quran,khatam-e-Yasin is a familiar and popular ritual, believed tobe the remedy for all sorts of problems. Surah Yasin booksthat printed by various publishers; some with Arabic-Latinwriting and translation, Arabic-Latin, and only the Arabicscript. From that various publishers, found many mistakes inwriting which circulated and read by the Muslim communityin the ritual-religious. The increasing number of passengers, goods and aircraft traffic flow in each year in Palu MutiaraAirport will have an impact on the performance of the existing road network around its.Movement of traffic from Mutiara airport or to Mutiara airport, will also be a tendancy toincrease, and can overload the road network around the airport.This study aims to determine the network performance of major roads around the Mutiara airportdue to the operation of the airport, especially at peak hours. Research analysis was conductedusing Indosesian Highway Capasity Manual (IHCM-1997).The results of this study indicated that the performance segment of the main roads aroundMutiara airport is still in stable flow conditions and not under conditions of traffic jams. Dampak Lalu Lintas Akibat Aktivitas Best Western Coco Hotel terhadap Kinerja Ruas Jalan Basuki Rahmat Palu

Palu, the capital city of Central Sulawesi province is experiencing economic progress. Progress is shown by the supporting facilities such as one of the biggest hotel in Palu that is Best Western Coco Hotel at Basuki Rahmat Street.The existence of this hotel will increase human activities towards the hotel by using a vehicle, so that could increase the amount of vehicles in this area. The total additional volume of these vehicles can cause additional traffic load in Basuki Rahmat Street and influence its performance. This study was aims to determine the performance of Basuki Rahmat road on the existing condition and in the future without and with activity affected the hotel. The analysis conducted by using the method of Indonesian Highway Capacity Manual, 1997. In this research a survey of traffic volume, side barrier and the vehicle travel time were conducted. The survey was conducted on Thursday, September 4th 2014. Base on the result of analysis on the performance of Basuki Rahmat Street, without development for existing condition the value was obtained as DS = 0,30 and DS on 2014 condition = 0,47 by level of services (LOS) C. While the conditions of the development of the area obtained value of DS=0.31, DS condition 2014 = 0,48 by level of services (LOS) = C. The handling of road start from additional of median on the road section will continue to maintain the performance of roads in a state with a level of service B, by degree of Saturation in each direction in 2024 is 0.44 and 0.41

Translation as a critical practice:using retranslation when teaching translation

Aquest article prova d’exposar com es pot incloure la teoria de la traducció en l’ensenyament pràctic a les aules, i considera que traduir un text ja versionat és un exercici que integra una lectura crítica tant del trasllat com de la teoria traductològica. Com que, tant en la formulació minimalista de Pym (2003), com en les directrius dels màsters europeus en traducció, aquesta consciència crítica és part de la competència traductora, retraduir es pot considerar una manera d’ajudar els estudiants a aconseguir-la. A l’article se suggereixen una sèrie d’activitats que van de l’anàlisi de traduccions d’un mateix text a comentar retraduccions, pràctica que fa que l’estudiant hagi d’explicar els processos que hi ha seguit. Cadascuna d’aquestes activitats ultrapassa la crítica textual i enllaça amb aspectes teòrics més amplis.This article addresses the question of how to relate translation theory to translation practice when teaching translation. Retranslation is viewed as a critical practice (kydd 2011) that integrates critical engagement with existing translations and theory into practice. This critical reflexion is part of translation competence, both in Pym’s (2003) minimalist formulation and the European Master’s in Translation guidelines. Retranslation can therefore be seen to help students achieve the sort of critical awareness that is part and parcel of translation competence. A series of practical learning activities are suggested that use retranslation. These range from analyses of retranslation of the same text to commented retranslations that ask the students to explain their own process. Each of these offers ways of going beyond textual criticism to engage with wider theoretical concerns
