Melanocytic nevi (MN) pose diagnostic difficulty due to their heterogeneous clinical, biological and molecular characteristics. Their recognition is also important because cutaneous melanomas are known to arise in pre-existing MN. Aim: This retrospective study aims to examine the clinical features and histopathological types of MN among patients attending King Abdulaziz University Hospital between January 2000 and December 2017. It also aims to examine the correlation of their number to cutaneous melanoma. Materials and Methods: All biopsy specimen data of pigmented skin lesions were collected through an electronic search of the Anatomic Pathology archives. Age, gender and site distribution and histological features were studiedfor different MN and their relation to cutaneous melanoma if associated. Results: MN were most common in the third decade of life affecting females more than males. The most frequent anatomic location was the head region, 176 (45.3%), with face being most frequent site, 45 (25.5%). Histologically the most common MN wasintradermal type accounting for 217 (56%). Two dysplastic nevi and one congenital nevus was associated with cutaneous melanoma. Conclusion: MN most commonly affected patients in their third decade of life .Females were more affected than males. Histologically most MN were of intradermal type and were rarely associated with cutaneous melanoma

The Makassar people make up the second largest ethnic group in South Sulawesi. The society holds to the norms of a traditional lifestyle, as evidence by its cultural and social systems. However, one aspect of this society\u27s physical culture (the traditional Makassar house concept) is disappearing. This is due to a lack of understanding about the concepts of these traditional houses. This study examines: a) The diversity of the Makassar traditional houses, and b) The extent to which the sociocultural condition and environmental factors influence the form of these houses. To address these issues, the research applied the rational-qualitative approach. A total of 55 cases in 3 locations were selected purposively for the study. The data gathered were processed inductively, and then discussed in terms of similarities and differences between the three locations. The research findings indicate the diversity of Makassar traditional houses which can be divided into two categories: First, the similarities in the house concept, house form and the function of each room (paddaserang). Second, the differences in the function of top floor (pamnzakkang) and the space underneath (siring), the setting of the jambang and the house terrace (paladang/dego-dego), the direction of the ladder, the kind of timba sila, the house facade, house orientation and building material used of the houses. Socio-cultural factors influence the concept of the house, the construction process, the house form, the similarity in the function of each room (paddaserang), the kind of timba sila, the direction of the ladder, the facade and house orientation. Natural environmental factors influence the roof form, the function of the space underneath (siring), the function of top floor (pammakkang), and the building material used. Key words: The diversity of housesThe traditional housesThe socio-cultural characteristics

The methodused was experimental, composed as non factorialcompletely randomized design (CRD).The treatment was the addition of banana bud into the shredded catfish, whichwas varied at 4 levels, namely: 0 % or original shredded catfish as the control(A0), addition of banana bud 25% (A1), 50% (A2) and 75% (A3) for 10 tones fishmeat each. The parameters used were organoleptic evaluation and proximatecomposition. The result showed that the addition of banana bud 75% (A3) into thefish meat was producing the best shredded catfish, characterized by the goodappearance with the brown-grey colour; have special good taste of shredded fish;fluffy fiber, soft and dry textured; and more tasty flavor. The product contained6,89% moisture, 26,25% protein, 27,19% fat, 6,31% ash, and 2,57% fiber

Magnetic field induced ferroelectric to relaxor crossover in Tb1-xCaxMnO3

    Get PDF
The influence of magnetic field on the electrical properties of Tb1−xCaxMnO3 has been investigated by means of dielectric, polarization and neutron diffraction measurements. A field of 6 T applied along the b-axis induces a crossover from ferroelectric to relaxor behavior for the x = 0.02 compound at temperatures close to the ferroelectric transition. The mechanism of this field induced crossover involves a decrease in the coherence length of the Mn-spin-spiral structure due to increasing electron hopping rates associated with double exchange. Moreover, a large negative magnetocapacitance is observed at the freezing temperature for x = 0.05, which originates from suppression of the relaxor state and thus represents a new mechanism of magnetocapacitance.

    Flywheel Generator

Lately, the needs of energy is increasing but its availability is very limited. Therefore,it is important to do more research on energy reform. Generator is one of the alternative energy which commonly used by the public, but it has a minus value such as the voltage instability and low efficiency of the generator . Based on those issues,so we made an application flywheel in electrical generator, which aims to produce a concept of power efficiency increase, stabilize the output voltage of the generator and begin to process power plant. How to operate it is by connecting the outlet of electricity, then TPDT converted to first position (position I), when the indicator light on the generator turns on, TPDT converted into the second position (position II) and began to process power plant.Making process of flywheel application machine in electrical generator start from designing of flywheel mechanims, find the amount of rotation per minute from generator (by experiments), find element of machine which uses(shaft, pin, chain, sprocket, bearing and flywheel), the value of power and the output value of generator. from the results of design of the machine is needed a 700watt with 1500 rpm motor with a transmission system using chain no.25, 10,5 kg mass of flywheel, and the maximum output power from generator 1200watt for 12 minutes

Doping of manganese (Mn3+/Mn4+) into the Aurivillius phase Pb1-xBi4+xTi4-xMnxO15 was carried out using the molten salt technique for various Mn concentrations (x=0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8, and 1). Single phase samples could be obtained in the composition range with x up to 0.6 as confirmed by X-ray and neutron diffraction analysis. Dielectric measurements show a peak at 801, 803, 813 and 850 K for samples with x=0, 0.2, 0.4, and 0.6, respectively, related to the ferroelectric transition temperature (T-c). The main contribution of the in-plane polarization for x = 0.4 the polarization originates from the dipole moment in the Ti(2)O-6 layer. Mn doping in the Pb1-xBi4+xTi4-xMnxO15 does not show any long range magnetic ordering. (C) 2011 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved

24-channel transcutaneous electrical sensory stimulation of the forearm: Effects on cognitive performance and autonomic arousal compared with single-electrode stimulation

    Get PDF
We sought to establish the effects on cognitive performance and autonomic arousal of a multi-electrode transcutaneous electrical sensory stimulator compared with single-electrode stimulation. Progressing from a feasibility study (n = 10) to a repeated-measures, within-subject study (n = 67), healthy, right-handed participants (34 male, mean age 28 ± 11.5 yrs.) received four separate predictable (“lines” or “ring”) or unpredictable (“fly” or “random”) complex electrical stimulation patterns to the non-dominant forearm via 24 individually programmable electrodes, or single-electrode stimulation. During stimulation, participants in the main study performed a series of cognitively demanding tests or a two-point discrimination task and had their autonomic arousal (skin conductance response) monitored. Single-electrode “first felt” current intensity decreased from distal to proximal forearm, was positively correlated with forearm circumference and was lower in females. Single-electrode stimulation was associated with a significant decline in two-point discrimination performance. There were no significant autonomic arousal or cognitive performance differences between complex patterns, but all patterns were associated with greater autonomic arousal than single-electrode stimulation. In conclusion, gender and forearm location and circumference significantly influence perception-levels for electrical current. Future research should examine whether the induction of increased autonomic arousal, via multi-electrode complex patterns, has improved therapeutic application, compared with single-electrode stimulation
