Coherence Time Effects on J/psi Production and Suppression in Relativistic Heavy Ion Collisions
Using a coherence time extracted from high precision proton-nucleus Drell-Yan
measurements and a nuclear absorption cross section extracted from pA
charmonium production experiments, we study J/psi production and absorption in
nucleus-nucleus collisions. We find that coherence time effects are large
enough to affect the measured J/psi-to-Drell-Yan ratio. The S+U data at 200A
GeV/c measured by NA38 are reproduced quantitatively without the introduction
of any new parameters. However, when compared with recent NA50 measurements for
Pb+Pb at 158A GeV/c, the data is not reproduced in trend or in magnitude.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figure
Search for flavor-changing neutral currents and lepton-family-number violation in two-body D0 decays
Results of a search for the three neutral charm decays, D0 -> mu e, D0 -> mu
mu, and D0 -> e e, are presented. This study was based on data collected in
Experiment 789 at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory using 800 GeV/c
proton-Au and proton-Be interactions. No evidence is found for any of the
decays. Upper limits on the branching ratios, at the 90% confidence level, are
obtained.Comment: 28 pages, 18 figures. Submitted to Physical Review
Single Polarisation Asymmetries for Quarkonia in Non-relativistic QCD
We find that single spin asymmetries in NRQCD are non-vanishing in general.
They are proportional to the imaginary parts of some non-perturbative matrix
elements. With statistics of about 10^6 identified J/psi's, or 10^5 identified
chi_2, it is possible to measure these imaginary parts even if they are an
order of magnitude smaller than the real parts. Such statistics are quite
reasonable at polarised HERA N and other future experiments.Comment: Plain LaTeX with one figure (ps
Search for the Flavor-Changing Neutral Current Decay with the HERA-B Detector
We report on a search for the flavor-changing neutral current decay using events recorded with a dimuon trigger in
interactions of 920 GeV protons with nuclei by the HERA-B experiment. We find
no evidence for such decays and set a 90% confidence level upper limit on the
branching fraction .Comment: 17 pages, 4 figures (of which 1 double), paper to be submitted to

Multisite Investigation of Outcomes With Implementation of CYP2C19 Genotype-Guided Antiplatelet Therapy After Percutaneous Coronary Intervention
OBJECTIVES:
This multicenter pragmatic investigation assessed outcomes following clinical implementation of CYP2C19 genotype-guided antiplatelet therapy after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).
BACKGROUND:
CYP2C19 loss-of-function alleles impair clopidogrel effectiveness after PCI.
METHODS:
After clinical genotyping, each institution recommended alternative antiplatelet therapy (prasugrel, ticagrelor) in PCI patients with a loss-of-function allele. Major adverse cardiovascular events (defined as myocardial infarction, stroke, or death) within 12 months of PCI were compared between patients with a loss-of-function allele prescribed clopidogrel versus alternative therapy. Risk was also compared between patients without a loss-of-function allele and loss-of-function allele carriers prescribed alternative therapy. Cox regression was performed, adjusting for group differences with inverse probability of treatment weights.
RESULTS:
Among 1,815 patients, 572 (31.5%) had a loss-of-function allele. The risk for major adverse cardiovascular events was significantly higher in patients with a loss-of-function allele prescribed clopidogrel versus alternative therapy (23.4 vs. 8.7 per 100 patient-years; adjusted hazard ratio: 2.26; 95% confidence interval: 1.18 to 4.32; p = 0.013). Similar results were observed among 1,210 patients with acute coronary syndromes at the time of PCI (adjusted hazard ratio: 2.87; 95% confidence interval: 1.35 to 6.09; p = 0.013). There was no difference in major adverse cardiovascular events between patients without a loss-of-function allele and loss-of-function allele carriers prescribed alternative therapy (adjusted hazard ratio: 1.14; 95% confidence interval: 0.69 to 1.88; p = 0.60).
CONCLUSIONS:
These data from real-world observations demonstrate a higher risk for cardiovascular events in patients with a CYP2C19 loss-of-function allele if clopidogrel versus alternative therapy is prescribed. A future randomized study of genotype-guided antiplatelet therapy may be of value
How to Search for Doubly Charmed Baryons and Tetraquarks
Possible experimental searches of doubly charmed baryons and tetraquarks at
fixed target experiments with high energy hadron beams and a high intensity
spectrometer are considered here. The baryons considered are:
(ccd), (ccu), and (ccs); and the tetraquark
is T (). Estimates are given of masses, lifetimes, internal
structure, production cross sections, decay modes, branching ratios, and
yields. Experimental requirements are given for optimizing the signal and
minimizing the backgrounds. The discussion is in the spirit of an experimental
and theoretical review, as part of the planning for a CHarm Experiment with
Omni-Purpose Setup (CHEOPS) at CERN. The CHEOPS objective is to achieve a
state-of-the-art very charming experiment, in the spirit of the aims of the
recent CHARM2000 workshop.Comment: 18 pages text (latex), 16 March 1995, presented at "Physics with

How feature context alters attentional template switching
: In real-world tasks visual attention is rarely aimed at a single object. Humans rather "forage" the visual scene for information, dynamically switching attentional templates. Several visual search studies have found that observers often use suboptimal attentional control strategies, possibly to avoid effort. Here, we investigated with a foraging paradigm if observers' reluctance to switch between attentional templates increases with template specificity. To that end, we manipulated the feature context of displays in which participants "foraged" moving stimuli on a tablet-PC. Experiment 1 (N = 35) revealed a decline in switching tendency and foraging efficiency with increasing feature-space distance between target alternatives. Experiment 2 (N = 36) found even lower flexibility with distractor color close to target colors and strongest impairments with distractor color in between target colors. Our results demonstrate that visual information sampling is most flexible when broad (instead of very specific) templates and relational search strategies are possible (e.g., attending to "redder" objects), with implications for both attention research and applications, especially in visual-foraging-like tasks, such as baggage screening or medical image assessment.
