In this study document review, a qualitative research method was used. Within the scope of the study, assessment tools of 9th and 10th grade secondary school physics textbooks which are recommended by the Ministry of Education (Turkey) to be used in the 2017-2018 academic year were examined. As a result of the study, assessment and evaluation activities of 9th and 10th grade physics textbooks were found to meet generally 1, 2, 3 and 4 levels of PISA Science literacy competence levels. Moreover, when the same activities were examined according to the revised Bloom Taxonomy, the vast majority of the assessment activities are at the factual and conceptual level of the knowledge accumulation dimension, and at the applying and understanding sub-dimensions of the cognitive process dimension.  Article visualizations

Identification of chronic urticaria subtypes using machine learning algorithms

    Get PDF
Chronic urticaria (CU) comes as chronic spontaneous urticaria (CSU) and chronic inducible urticaria (CIndU). Across its types and subtypes, CU is a heterogeneous disease that has different phenotypes with distinct clinical characteristics and different endotypes with distinct underlying pathophysiological mechanisms. It may be possible that subtypes of CU patients exhibit distinct phenotypic disease signatures that can point to differences in what drives their condition and in their response to treatments. Cluster analysis is a popular unsupervised machine learning (ML) method for discovering previously undetected data patterns. ML-based cluster analysis has been used in several diseases for the identification and characterization of patient subgroups. As of now, no study has attempted to identify CU subtypes with this method. Here, we performed a proof-of-concept study to test whether cluster analysis using ML algorithms can identify subgroups of CU patients based on clinical and routine laboratory characteristics. This project benefitted from the support (non-financial) of the GA2LEN network of urticaria centers of reference and excellence (UCARE, www.ga2len-ucare.com)

Businesses have to develop and implement effective stock policies to maximize profits by minimizing costs in today's market conditions. Since the stocks enterprises between 20% to 60% within total assets of manufacturings,  effective implementation of stock control and management policies, has great importance for the future of business.Businesses’ execution of it’s stock policies at the lowest cost depends on the forecasting amount of stock based on demand at least error, and minimum stock level determination and the appropriate time and amount of orders given to it. Thus, time and cost savings will be achieved by ensuring balance of continuity and speed in production of goods and services in the production process.By the rapid changes in consumer preferences, the variety of products, technologies and competitors are rapidly changing and increasing in rate. By increases in product variety, stock control and management is becoming even more difficult and complex. In recent years, effective and efficient resource use and management began to be kept in the foreground in public institutions as well as private sector. Public hospitals have been diverged from other business such as restaurant and hotel since it  is an inpatient treatment business. It’s obligation of keeping right supplies in right amount, in the right place at the right time and cost is more strict comparing other institutions.İşletmeler, günümüz piyasa koşullarında, maliyetleri minimize ederek karı maksimize edecek etkin stok politikalarını geliştirmeye ve uygulamaya mecburdur.

The fact that technology has become an inseparable part of human life has led to an increase in the consumption and waste amount, a decrease in natural resources, and environmental pollution to reach important dimensions. Along with these improvements, protection of the environment and wastes have become a legal obligation in front of the enterprises, and as the society becomes conscious about the protection of the environment, it has become very important in terms of customer satisfaction. In the case of logistics, the concept of reverse logistics, which refers to the collection, storage and transport activities, which include the processes of recycling, reprocessing and destruction in general, became important. In this study, a descriptive research has been carried out on the business executives' evaluation of the reverse logistics perspective and their application to the reverse logistics. In this framework, first the theoretical framework for the concept of reverse logistics was established and the importance of reverse logistics for the country, society, environment and enterprises was emphasized and reverse logistics applications in our country were given place. In the application part of the study, face-to-face interviews were carried out with executives of 110 companies operating in the Malatya Organized Industrial Zone, and a survey was conducted. In the light of the obtained data, it is seen that the business executives see the level of reverse logistics as a social responsibility towards the environment and collectivity; how to look at the way in which reverse logistics can be used as an advertising tool and to give an environmental image to enterprises; the competitive advantage of reverse logistics, the contribution to customer satisfaction, and the degree of participation in the views that benefit the business economy are evaluated and analyzed whether the executives differ in terms of demographic characteristics and some basic characteristics of the enterprises

Objective:To evaluate the initial shear bond strengths (SBSs) of ceramic brackets using either a self-etching primer (SEP) or the conventional method (CM) after intracoronal bleaching with sodium perborate and distilled water. Methods:Eighty human incisors were divided into four groups according to bleaching and bonding procedures: Group 1, bleaching was not applied and the brackets were bonded with a self-etching primer; Group 2, bleaching was not applied and the brackets were bonded with the conventional method; Group 3, intracoronal bleaching with sodium perborate was applied for three weeks and the brackets were bonded with a self-etching primer; and Group 4, intracoronal bleaching with sodium perborate was applied for three weeks and the brackets were bonded with the conventional method. A self-etching primer (Transbond Plus) was applied as recommended by the manufacturer. After SEP application, the ceramic brackets were bonded with a light-curing adhesive (Transbond XT). For the conventional method, the teeth were etched with 37% phosphoric acid. After etching, a thin uniform coat of primer (Transbond XT Primer) was applied and the ceramic brackets were bonded with a light-curing adhesive (Transbond XT). SBSs were measured after water storage for 30 days, after 1000 cycles of thermocycling between 5°C and 55°C. Bond failure location was determined with the Adhesive Remnant Index (ARI).Results:For the SEP method, there was no significant difference between SBS values of the bleaching and non-bleaching groups. Furthermore, for the conventional method, the SBS value of the non-bleaching group was not significantly different from that of the bleaching group. SBS values of the SEP method presented significant differences from those of the conventional method (p<0.001). SBS values of SEP application decreased with and without bleaching. The ARI scores did not show any significant difference among the groups (p=0.174).Conclusion:Intracoronal bleaching with sodium perborate and distilled water did not affect the SBS values of ceramic brackets

    Get PDF
PURPOSEWe aimed to evaluate BIRADS-3 breast lesions with dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (DCE-MRI) and compare with histopathology, and to investigate the effectiveness of breast MRI for follow-up and management.METHODSA total of 84 BIRADS-3 lesions reported by US or mammography and evaluated by DCE-MRI between September 2014 and October 2015 were included in this study. All patients underwent percutaneous or surgical biopsy for histopathologic diagnosis. Morphologic and kinematic features on MRI were compared with histopathologic results.RESULTSOf the 84 BIRADS-3 breast lesions, 9 (10.7%) had malignant features on DCE-MRI and all were verified with histopathologic results. DCE-MRI had 96.7% sensitivity, 72% specificity, 92% positive predictive value, and 82.5% negative predictive value. MRI and histopathology results were correlated for the diagnosis of malignant lesions. The sensitivity and negative predictive value of MRI for diagnosis of malignant lesions were both 100%.CONCLUSIONDifferentiation of benign versus malignant lesions was accomplished with 100% accuracy with DCE-MRI. We suggest that DCE-MRI should be an additional diagnostic tool and problem-solving modality for BIRADS-3 lesions, particularly in patients with relative risk factors
