Tualang honey is obtained from large honeycombs produced by Asian bees (Apis dorsata) in gigantic Tualang trees. It has been used traditionally by local communities to treat wounds. However, unlike manuka honey its medicinal uses are not well researched. An open, prospective study Into the efficacy of wound healing in fuil thickness wounds in rats, was designed to compare honey impregnated dressings with silver-impregnated hydrofibre dressings on full-thickness wound created on the dorsum of Sprague-Dawley rats (n=45). Tualang honey impregnated paraffin tulle (P-honey) and ~Jalang honey impregnated hydrofibre dressings (H·honey) were compared with silver-containing hydrofibne dressing (positive control; H·Ag). Tualang honey impregnated dressings were comparable to the commercialiy available silver impregnated hydrofibre dressing in tenns of adherence, ease of removal, ftuid accumulation, dryness cf surrounding skin and exudates. Tile rates cf wound healing, wound contracture and subsequent histological analysis of inflammatory reaction by each dressing were also comparable. I Condusions: Tualang honey impregnated dressings were as effective as silver impregnated roydrofibre dressings in tenms of dressing properties, promotion of wound healing and inflammatory reaction. The changing environment in an organization is forcing the organization to find a plan of integrated management framework and adequate performance measurement. Failure to plan basically means planning failure for the business. Finding the critical factors of quality management practices (QMP), the mediating roles of the contextual factors of world-class performance in operations (i.e., world-class company practices or WCC, operational excellence practices or OE, company nonfinancial performance or CNFP), and the company financial performance would enable the company to facilitate the sustainability of TQM implementation model. This empirical study aims to assess how TQMa holistic management philosophy initially developed by W. Edward Deming, which integrates improvement strategy, management practices, and organizational performanceis specifically implemented in the oil and gas companies operating in Indonesia. Relevant literature on the TQM, the world-class performance in operations (world-class company and operational performance), the company performance (financial and non-financial performances), and the amendments of the Law of the Republic of Indonesia concerning the oil and gas industry, and related research on how the oil and gas industry in Indonesia develops sustainable competitive advantage and sustainable development programs are reviewed in details in our study. The findings from data analysis provide evidence that there is a strong positive relationship between the critical factors of quality management practices and the company financial performance mediated by the three mediating variables, i.e., world-class company practices, operational excellence practices, and company non-financial performance

Abstract: This study purposively is to conduct an empirical analysis of the structural relations among critical factors of quality management practices (QMPs), world-class company practice (WCC), operational excellence practice (OE), and company performance (company non-financial performance or CNFP and company financial performance or CFP) in the oil and gas companies operating in Indonesia. The current study additionally examines the relationships between QMPs and CFP through WCC, OE, and CNFP (as partial mediators) simultaneously. The study uses data from a survey of 140 strategic business units (SBUs) within 49 oil and gas contractor companies in Indonesia. The findings suggest that all six QMPs have positive and significant indirect relationships on CFP through WCC and CNFP. Only four of six QMPs have positive and significant indirect relationships on CFP through OE and CNFP. Hence, WCC, OE, and CNFP play as partial mediators between QMPs and CFP. CNFP has a significant influence on CFP. A major implication of this study is that oil and gas managers need to recognize the structural relations model fit by developing all of the research constructs simultaneously associated with a comprehensive TQM practice. Furthermore, the findings will assist oil and gas companies by improving CNFP, which is very critical to TQM, thereby contributing to a better achievement of CFP. The current study uses the Demings principles, Hayes and Wheelwright dimensions of world-class company practice, Chevron Texacos operational excellence practice, and the dimensions of company financial and nonfinancial performances. The paper also provides an insight into the sustainability of TQM implementation model and their effect on company financial performance in oil and gas companies in Indonesia.

Prevalence of avascular necrosis following surgical treatments in unstable slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE):a systematic review and meta-analysis

    Get PDF
The choice of treatment for unstable and severely displaced slipped capital femoral epiphysis (SCFE) is controversial. This meta-analysis was conducted to determine the prevalence of femoral head avascular necrosis (AVN) following various treatments for unstable SCFE. Various databases were searched to identify articles published until 4 February 2022. A random-effects model was used to examine prevalence as well as risk ratios with confidence intervals (CIs) of 95%. Thirty-three articles were analyzed in this study. The pooled prevalences of AVN in pinning in situ, pinning following intentional closed reduction, pinning following unintentional closed reduction, and open reduction via the Parsch method, subcapital osteotomy and the modified Dunn procedure were 18.5%, 23.0%, 27.6%, 9.9%, 18.6% and 19.9%, respectively. The risk of developing AVN in pinning following intentional closed reduction was found to be 1.62 times higher than pinning in situ; however, this result was not significant. The prevalence of AVN in open reduction was lowest when performed via the Parsch method; however, this finding should be interpreted with caution, since the majority of slips so-treated are of mild and moderate types as compared with the subcapital osteotomy and modified Dunn procedures, which are predominantly used to treat severely displaced slips. As the risk ratio between intentional closed reduction and the modified Dunn method showed no significant difference, we believe that the modified Dunn method has the advantage of meticulously preserving periosteal blood flow to the epiphysis, thus minimizing AVN risk. In comparison with intentional closed reduction, the modified Dunn method is used predominantly in cases of severe slips

Prenatal Ultrasound (US) is commonly used as a routine procedure on pregnant women. It is generally perceived as a safe procedure due to the use of non-ionizing radiation. However, the neurotoxicity of diagnostic prenatal US was detected to have a correlation with high susceptibility to early developing fetus. This research involved in vivo experimental model by using 3rd trimester pregnant Oryctolagus cuniculus and exposing them to US exposures for 30, 60, and 90 minutes at their gestational day (GD) 28-29. The output power and intensities, spatial peak temporal average intensity (ISPTA) of US were varied from 0.4 to 0.7 W and 0.13 to 0.19 W/cm2 respectively were tested initially in free-field, water. Haematological analysis was carried out to detect any changes in blood constituents. Statistically significant differences were detected in red blood cell (RBC) count (P<0.001), haemoglobin (Hb) concentration (P<0.001) and also platelet (PLT) count (P<0.001) in newborn of Oryctolagus cuniculus. These findings indicate the possibility of US heating in causing defects on studied animal

The brink of oil and gas energy: a great loss?

There are many persistent local and international conflicts in oil producing countries due to power struggles among the leaders, to have a total control on oil and gas supplies, etc. These conflicts have disrupted the oil and gas production and supplies which at one point saw the world?s oil price hit an all time high of US147.27on11July2008.Thehighoilpricewasduetoescalateddemandthansupply,andinrealitythereisnoshortageofconventionaloilandgasresources.Infact,theEarthhasnearly1.688trillionbarrelsofprovencrudeoil,whichwilllast53.3yearsatcurrentratesofextraction.Theproblemliesinproduceabilityandaccessibilitytothoseresources.Currentlytheoilandgasindustryisfacingaverychallengingperiodwiththeworld?soilpricehasdroppedsharplyfromaboveUS147.27 on 11 July 2008. The high oil price was due to escalated demand than supply, and in reality there is no shortage of conventional oil and gas resources. In fact, the Earth has nearly 1.688 trillion barrels of proven crude oil, which will last 53.3 years at current rates of extraction. The problem lies in produceability and accessibility to those resources. Currently the oil and gas industry is facing a very challenging period with the world?s oil price has dropped sharply from above US100 per barrel to US$50 per barrel as of 5 November 2015 due to the slowing demand from China, the United States of America, Japan, and Europe. As a result, many local and international oil companies and service companies have released or terminated their technical staff. Oil companies have to reduce their production cost or break-even dollar value per barrel in order to survive in this difficult time. On the other hand, this difficult environment will not stop the Department of Petroleum Engineering from offering the same number of places for the Bachelor Degree in Petroleum Engineering programme to Malaysian and international students. Via the accredited programme and UTM Professional Skills Certificate, those petroleum students are prepared for local and global markets
