Characterization of buspirone effect on output basal ganglia nuclei in 6-hydroxydopamine lesioned rats with and without long-term levodopa treatment.
Prediction of odd-mode instabilities under output mismatch effects
A methodology is presented to predict odd-mode instability in power amplifiers under output mismatch effects, as in the case of amplifiers connected to an antenna. This kind of instability is often observed in power-combining configurations, due to their symmetry properties. Unlike the single-ended situation, there is a cancellation of odd multiples of the oscillation frequency at the circuit output, so there is no impact of the load impedance values at the sideband frequencies. The odd-mode instability depends on the terminations at the fundamental frequency and its harmonic terms, and can only be detected within the circuit unstable loop, instead of the output plane. Here a methodology for the prediction and suppression of odd-mode instabilities is presented. Low-pass filtering effects and the use of a shorted stub allow the stability analysis to be limited to the fundamental-frequency termination. Then, the stability boundaries are efficiently determined through bifurcation detection inside the unstable loop, using the magnitude and phase of the reflection coefficient as the analysis parameters. Results have been validated through pole-zero identification and experimental measurements. This work has been funded by the Spanish Government under contract TEC2014-60283-C3-1-R, the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF/FEDER) and the Parliament of Cantabria (12.JP02.64069)
Transition to turbulence in nonuniform coronal loops driven by torsional Alfv\'en waves. II. Extended analysis and effect of magnetic twist
It has been shown in a previous work that torsional Alfv\'en waves can drive
turbulence in nonuniform coronal loops with a purely axial magnetic field. Here
we explore the role of the magnetic twist. We model a coronal loop as a
transversely nonuniform straight flux tube, anchored in the photosphere, and
embedded in a uniform coronal environment. We consider that the magnetic field
is twisted and control the strength of magnetic twist by a free parameter of
the model. We excite the longitudinally fundamental mode of standing torsional
Alfv\'en waves, whose temporal evolution is obtained by means of
high-resolution three-dimensional ideal magnetohydrodynamic numerical
simulations. We find that phase mixing of torsional Alfv\'en waves creates
velocity shear in the direction perpendicular to the magnetic field lines. The
velocity shear eventually triggers the Kelvin-Helmholtz instability (KHi). In
weakly twisted magnetic tubes, the KHi is able to grow nonlinearly and,
subsequently, turbulence is driven in the coronal loop in a similar manner as
in the untwisted case. Provided that magnetic twist remains weak, the effect of
magnetic twist is to delay the onset of the KHi and to slow down the
development of turbulence. In contrast, magnetic tension can suppress the
nonlinear growth of the KHi when magnetic twist is strong enough, even if the
KHi has locally been excited by the phase-mixing shear. Thus, turbulence is not
generated in strongly twisted loopsComment: Published in A&A. 12 pages. 12 figure
Analysis of high-order sub-harmonically injection-locked oscillators
High-order subharmonically injection-locked oscillators have recently been proposed for low phase-noise frequency generation, with carrier-selection capabilities. This work focuses on the analysis of this frequency-synthesis procedure, with emphasis on the oscillator capability to discriminate the input tones, under the variation of a tuning voltage. The oscillator is described with an analytical envelopedomain formulation, leading to an expression for the oscillator phase shift with respect to the input source. The average of this phase shift is shown to evolve in a continuous manner in the distinct synchronization bands obtained versus the tuning voltage. Then, the subsynchronized operation at a high frequency ratio (N = 30) is considered, showing the applicability of envelopedomain simulations under various Fourier decompositions and sampling rates. The synchronization bands are obtained through the phase averaging technique. The analysis has been applied to a prototype at 2.7 GHz that has been manufactured and measured. This work was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF/FEDER) under the research project TEC2017-88242-C3-1-R

An X-ray characterization of the central region of the SNR G332.5-5.6
We present an X-ray analysis of the central region of supernova remnant (SNR)
G332.5-5.6 through an exhaustive analysis of XMM-Netwon observations with
complementary infrared observations. We characterize and discuss the origin of
the observed X-ray morphology, which presents a peculiar plane edge over the
west side of the central region. The morphology and spectral properties of the
X-ray supernova remnant were studied using a single full frame XMM-Newton
observation in the 0.3 to 10.0 keV energy band. Archival infrared WISE
observations at 8, 12 and 24 \mu m were also used to investigate the properties
of the source and its surroundings at different wavelengths. The results show
that the extended X-ray emission is predominantly soft (0.3-1.2 keV) and peaks
around 0.5 keV, which shows that it is an extremely soft SNR. X-ray emission
correlates very well with central regions of bright radio emission. On the west
side the radio/X-ray emission displays a plane-like feature with a terminal
wall where strong infrared emission is detected. Our spatially resolved X-ray
spectral analysis confirms that the emission is dominated by weak atomic
emission lines of N, O, Ne, and Fe, all of them undetected in previous X-ray
studies. These characteristics suggest that the X-ray emission is originated in
an optically thin thermal plasma, whose radiation is well fitted by a
non-equilibrium ionization collisional plasma (VNEI) X-ray emission model. Our
study favors a scenario where G332.5-5.6 is expanding in a medium with an
abrupt density change (the wall), likely a dense infrared emitting region of
dust on the western side of the source.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures and 2 tables. Accepted for publication in A&
