nature and natural elements health benefits for patients in hospitals. The design of physical healthcare
environment has impact in the possibility to integrate nature and natural elements. The work
is complex and cooperation are needed between operators. Stockholm county council wants to
work health promotive. They initiated âFramtidsplanen för hĂ€lso- och sjukvĂ„rdâ, a big investment
historically, where new constructions and redevelopment are planned at the emergency hospitals.
Nature and natural elements are not described in âFramtidsplanen för hĂ€lso- och sjukvĂ„rdâ.
AIM: The aim with the study is to get a picture of the attitude of Stockholm county council to nature
and natural elements in future healthcare environments at emergency hospitals.
METHOD: Stockholm city council is a big organisation. For the possibility to several perspectives
that can describe a picture of the attitude two qualitative data collection methods were chosen,
semi structured interview and textual analysis of document. A phenomenological approach was
used in the analysis of collected data.
RESULT: The result shows that Stockholm county council has a positive view on nature and sees it
as health promotive. The city council wants to have health promotive health care environments and
health care. Despite this nature and natural environments are not linked with health promotive environments
and care. The architects promote nature and natural environments in their design of the
future health care environments. Also the nature around the hospitals and the awareness of the
benefits of nature promotes nature and natural elements. Nature and natural elements in new
health care environments are not in focus and peer-reviewed research are asked for to make an
attitude change.
CONCLUSION: Despite Stockholm county council health promotive view on nature and natural environments
they cannot translate the understanding in the design of health care environments at
emergency hospitals. It is an unnoticed subject in future health care environment at emergency
hospitals. For the possibility to an attitude change peer-reviewed research that Stockholm county
council can work by are needed
Outcomes from new contracts with âstrongâ incentives for increasing patronage in bus transport in Stockholm
The Swedish Public Transport Association (SPTA) has taken initiatives to develop contract recommendations on incentives for increased patronage in tendered contracts. There is, however, currently a small evidence-base for recommendations for how public transport contracts should be designed to provide incentives to achieve the policy goals of the Regional Public Transport Authorities (RPTA). A review of public contracts from the government agency Transport analysis (2015) indicates that the use of patronage incentives so far is modest. The purpose of this study is to take first steps towards creating such a knowledge base by collecting and analyzing the performance in four bus contracts in Stockholm county spanning seven years. The study focusses on a new kind of contract called E20 where 100 percent of the payments to operators are tied to the number of boarding and paying passengers. The study compares the development of the E20-contract areas (formerly independent contracts) with the outcomes in same contract areas before and with two comparison areas covered by gross cost contracts. The stated goals for the E20 contracts are to increase patronage and customer satisfaction as well as to increase efficiency. With the use of available monthly outcome data, the outcomes in the E20 areas (three years) are compared with the period before (four years) and to how the comparison contracts using gross cost contracts have developed: âą In two of the E20 contract areas (Sollentuna and Norrort) the operator tried to significantly increase the supply, without this leading to substantial increases in boardings. Thereafter, the supply was reduced to a level slightly above the level before the E20 contract started. In the other two E20-contract areas, supply has increased gradually but little. âą In two other E20 contract areas (Bromma and Norrort) the share of canceled departures decreased, while they increased in (Sollentuna, Solna/Sundbyberg). These effects are small. âą Cancelled departures have decreased more in E20 areas than in the comparison areas. âą Punctuality has changed little in the E20 contract areas. âą Perceived quality deteriorates initially but improved steadily to roughly recover to previous levels. âą Costs have declined in two contract areas (Bromma and Sollentuna) but increased in two other (Solna/Sundbyberg and Norrort). On average, they increase slightly, but less Compared to the gross cost contracts in comparison areas, the operator of the E20 contracts performed better regarding in the dimensions of Costs, Customer satisfaction (initially worse but then better), Punctuality, Cancelled departures ..but inferior in Supply of number of departures ... and not better regarding the number of boarding passengers. Note that this describes the outcome with available data, in this specific case during this specific period. This single observation does not provide sufficient basis for generalization to other contracts or continuing events of the same contract. Neither does it exclude that a similar course of events could occur later or in other contracts.Institute of Transport and Logistics Studies. Faculty of Economics and Business. Hur kan Lunds kommun minska sin kemikaliebelastning?
The international increasing consumption implies an increase in the use of chemical products, articles and services. Between the years 2000 -2020 the production of chemicals is expected to rise with 85 percent. Chemicals is not something we can live without, they are all around us for example in food, electronics, clothes and hygienic products. The knowledge about hazardous chemicals and their environmental and health effects is unfortunately lacking and the rate at which new substances is being presented leaves knowledge and legislation far behind. A group that is particularly vulnerable towards chemicals is children and adolescence. The municipality of Lund has a document about ecological sustainable development called LundaEko, which is going to be updated this year and new objectives to be reached until 2020 will be formulated. The aim of this thesis is to provide a basis for the updated LundaEko how Lund municipality may avoid the use of hazardous substances through procurement, optionally be more demanding than what current law requires and prioritize target areas for hazardous chemicals. Green public procurement is one of the most effective management control measurements when it comes to decreasing the use of hazardous chemicals. Since Lund purchase products, articles and services for large amounts of money they can by setting chemical-related demands decrease the use of chemicals. The SIN-list is also a useful instrument when it comes to setting relevant requirements. There are some good examples to be inspired by from other municipals and authorities where they have proceeded ahead of what current legislation demands. For Lund to be able to decrease their use of hazardous chemicals a political decision has to be made. Therefore should a new object as a part of LundaEko contain an extended green public procurement as well as sub-target to use and set requirements from the SIN-list in the procurement work. Since itâs not possible to include all the substances from the SIN-list priorities must be made. A relevant area to prioritize is non-toxic pre-schools and schools to secure a more non-toxic future for children and adolescence
This thesis examines the democracy theories that can be found in the internet websites of Region SkÄne and Stockholm county council. Within the framework of deliberative democracy, participatory democracy and electoral democracy, the author tries to distinguish democratic aspects by empirically studying these websites and their communicative effect on the internet users. This research shows that Region SkÄne is slightly better in implementing democratic aspects at their home page, which is probably due to an active work with these issues carried out by the politicians and the report on the democratic development from 2004. However, a great deal of work regarding democracy and the possibility of civic participation in the decision- making process is still to be done. The problems and challenges in using internet as a democratic tool shows that citizens run a risk of being neglected, due to their uneven participation in using internet in daily life. The conclusion of this thesis is that the politicians have to make an active choice in deciding to what extent the internet is allowed to be used when it comes to developing democracy. This work has to be done in cooperation with political scientists and IT experts, in order to assure a correct democratic model
Ecosystem services in the city : a study of new street trees on Fyrislundsgatan
In recent decades, the population of the larger towns in Sweden has increased
significantly. The urbanization trend is strong today. This leads to a bigger pressure to
build and densify. In turn, this also leads to a greater proportion of hardstanding surfaces
often at the expense of natural land which houses many important ecosystem services
people depend on. All of the above places greater demands on the urban green structure
to contribute more than just as something pretty to look at. The urban green structure
should also be able to fill an important function for the society in the form of ecosystem
services. Therefore, the aim of the bachelor thesis was based on a current design of street
trees to examine how the city trees can provide benefits in the form of ecosystem
services, seeing that the trees are one of the tools landscape architects use when
designing. The study was based on using literature to find out both the ecosystem services
that are most important in the urban environment, and which of these services the urban
trees can contribute with, as well as what factors and characteristics of the trees that are
important to obtain these services. The species that were selected in the current project
were reviewed with respect to the factors mentioned above. The results showed, among
other things, that the ecosystem services that trees provide and that are of greatest
importance in the urban environment is the air purification, stormwater management,
micro-climate regulation, biodiversity and aesthetic values

A safety-based approach to the design of the JĂ€rla station square
Nacka. An effective transportation system that is trusted and enables mobility is essential for life in the city; but for the urban space to thrive, residents need to feel safe enough to use it. Already in the 1960s, Jane Jacobs discussed the importance of âeyes on the streetâ and natural surveillance for a place to feel safe. The aim of this essay is to discuss how perceived safety can be achieved when constructing a public space. More specifically, it analyzes the safety in the station area of the planned station JĂ€rla. JĂ€rla is located in Nacka, a suburb in the southeast of Swedenâs capital Stockholm. With a new public square and new buildings near the entrance of the subway, JĂ€rla and its surroundings will inevitably change as a result of the expansion of Stockholmâs subway system. In this paper, a safety-based perspective will be applied while answering the question: âHow can perceived safety be achieved in the design of JĂ€rla station square when Stockholmâs subway is expanding towards Nacka?â The discussion is based on literature on safety-based urban design as well as document review and semi-structured interviews with professionals employed in safety and landscape architecture. The results show that safety need to be addressed in all stages of landscape architecture. Furthermore, the results clarify that not only the site itself but also its placement in its surroundings will determine the safety of the space, both when it comes to actual and perceived safety. It can be concluded that a safe public place that enables mobility will also be socially sustainable
