    Functional Neural Network Control Chart

In many Industry 4.0 data analytics applications, quality characteristic data acquired from manufacturing processes are better modeled as functions, often referred to as profiles. In practice, there are situations where a scalar quality characteristic, referred to also as the response, is influenced by one or more variables in the form of functional data, referred to as functional covariates. To adjust the monitoring of the scalar response by the effect of this additional information, a new profile monitoring strategy is proposed on the residuals obtained from the functional neural network, which is able to learn a possibly nonlinear relationship between the scalar response and the functional covariates. An extensive Monte Carlo simulation study is performed to assess the performance of the proposed method with respect to other control charts that appeared in the literature before. Finally, a case study in the railway industry is presented with the aim of monitoring the heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems installed onboard passenger trains

Thermophysical, microstructural characterization and non-destructive control of TBCs by photothermal and thermographic techniques: some lessons learned

    Get PDF
Since several years, photothermal and thermographic techniques have been used to perform the thermo-physical characterisation of TBCs and the non-destructive assessment of TBC integrity. Furthermore, in the last decade some attempts to use these techniques for carrying out a non-destructive microstructural characterization have been done, as well. In this talk the description of a thermographic technique able to simultaneously measure the through-the-thickness and the in-plane thermal diffusivity of free standing TBCs samples and thus giving evidence of the typical microstructural anisotropy of APS TBCs will be provided [1]. Furthermore, some effects of the laser radiation used in a laser flash experiment on the TBC thermal diffusivity and a new model for fitting the experimental data will be presented [2,3]. The main results of an activity focused to identify potentialities and limitations of using Laser flash experiments on multilayered samples for estimating thermal diffusivity of TBCs samples will be provided. A theoretical and experimental analysis of the real capabilities of infrared techniques to estimate the porosity content and the microstructure of porous ceramic materials such as thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) by studying thermal diffusivity variations when pores are filled with air or vacuum will be provided [4,5]. INTERNET, SER E ESPAÇO: PRESSUPOSTOS DE FENOMENOLOGIA-ONTOLÓGICA ESTRUTURAL

    Get PDF

    Get PDF

Dynamic changes in cytoskeleton proteins of olfactory ensheathing cells induced by radiofrequency electromagnetic fields.

Several evidences have suggested the ability of radio frequency electromagnetic fields to influence biological systems, even if the action mechanisms are not well understood. Only few data have reported about the effect of radio frequency electromagnetic fields on self-renewal of neural progenitor cells. A particular glial type, which shows characteristics of stem cells, are Olfactory Ensheathing Cells (OECs). Herein, we assessed the non-thermal effects induced on Olfactory Ensheathing Cells through radio frequency electromagnetic fields changing the envelope of the electromagnetic wave. Primary OEC cultures were exposed to continuous or amplitude modulated 900 MHz electromagnetic fields, in far field condition and at different exposition times (10, 15, 20 min). The expression of Olfactory Ensheathing Cells markers (S-100 and Nestin), cytoskeletal proteins (GFAP and Vimentin), apoptotic pathway activation by Caspase-3 cleavage and cell viability were evaluated. Our results highlight that 20 min of exposure to continuous or amplitude modulated 900 MHz electromagnetic fields induced a different and significant decrease in cell viability. In addition, according to the electromagnetic fields waveform, diverse dynamic changes in the expression of the analysed markers in Olfactory Ensheathing Cells and activation of apoptotic pathway were observed. The data suggest that radio frequency electromagnetic fields might play different and important role in the self-renewal of OEC stem cells, which are involved in nervous system repair

: SARS-CoV-2 is still a health problem worldwide despite the availability of vaccines. Therefore, there is a need for effective and safe antiviral. SARS-CoV-2 and HCV necessitate RNA-dependent RNA polymerase (RdRp) for replication; therefore, it has been hypothesized that RdRp inhibitors used to treat HCV may be effective treating SARS-CoV-2. Accordingly, we evaluated the effect of the sofosbuvir/velpatasvir (SOF/VEL) combination in early SARS-CoV-2 infection. A multicenter case-control study was conducted, enrolling 120 patients with mild or moderate COVID-19, of whom 30, HCV coinfected or not, received SOF/VEL tablets (400/100 mg) once daily for 9 days within a median of 6 days from the beginning of infection and 90 controls were treated with standard care. The primary endpoint was the effect on viral clearance, and the secondary endpoint was the improvement of clinical outcomes. Nasal swabs for SARS-CoV-2 by PCR were performed every 5-7 days. Between 5-14 days after starting SOF/VEL treatment, SAS-CoV-2 clearance was observed in 83% of patients, while spontaneous clearance in the control was 13% (p < 0.001). An earlier SARS-CoV-2 clearance was observed in the SOF/VEL group than in the control group (median 14 vs 22 days, respectively, p < 0.001) also when the first positivity was considered. None of the patients in the SOF/VEL group showed disease progression, while in the control group, 24% required more intensive treatment (high flow oxygen or noninvasive/invasive ventilation), and one patient died (p < 0.01). No significant side effects were observed in the SOF/VEL group. Early SOF/VEL treatment in mild/moderate COVID-19 seems to be safe and effective for faster elimination of SARS-CoV-2 and to prevent disease progression

METHODS: Consecutive and prospective assessment of 66 patients (40% male) aged 81 ± 5 years of which 57% were hypertensive, 38% had dyslipidemia and 28% were diabetics. The Bruce protocol was adapted for a tilt treadmill and the TST prognostic value was obtained using the Duke treadmill score. RESULTS: The TST duration, recommended maximum heart rate percentage and double product at peak exercise were respectively: 7 ± 3 minutes, 95 ± 9% and 24,946 ± 4,576 (bpm x mmHg). The TST and DIP presented similar positive results for myocardial ischemia (21% vs 15%, respectively). The correlation between the tests was 88% (Kappa 0.63, p<0.01). During 685 ± 120 days of follow-up, nine major events occurred: 6 deaths, 2 acute coronary syndromes and 1 myocardial revascularization. The variables associated with the major events were: age (83 ± 6 vs 80 ± 4 years; p=0.048), male gender (78% vs 33%; p=0.02), ST segment depression (1 ± 1 mm vs 0.25 ± 0.6 mm; p= 0.01), high or intermediate risk determined by the Duke treadmill score - combined in one group (44% vs 2%; p=0.001) and abnormal DIP (44% vs 10%, p= 0.02). CONCLUSION: For this elderly population, the TST was an efficient and viable option with a similar diagnostic value in comparison to the DIP. However, the TST was more accurate in the prediction of major events and offers a lower cost
