    Healthcare Services and Formal Caregiver’s Psychosocial Risk Factors: An Observational Study

    The prevention and management of chronic disease primarily requires risk reduction measures, through strategic coordination across various government areas. Recognizing that health workers and the public health workforce are integral to building strong and resilient health, the present study analyses the relation between Psychosocial Risk Factors (PRFs, to which formal caregivers are exposed in the healthcare settings), and the work system related elements of the Systems Engineering Initiative for Patient Safety (SEIPS 3.0) framework. An empirical study was carried out, involving 333 formal caregivers of healthcare services. A total of 31 PRFs were assessed (using the COPSOQ III), making it possible to find a relationship between the PRFs analyzed with three elements of the work system, namely Task (5 PRFs), Organizational factors (17 PRFs), and Individual (9 PRFs). The present work contributes not only in terms of outcomes that allow the development of mental illness prevention and mental health promotion actions for healthcare formal caregivers, but also in terms of the relevance that these factors can have on the quality of health services, as well as their users (patients), in line with SEIPS 3.0 model

    Peer assessment of individual contribution in group work: a student perspective

    With group work increasing in popularity at universities, students no longer feel it is acceptable to be awarded the same group mark. This presents a significant challenge in awarding an individual mark which reflects unequivocally the time and effort a student has invested in a group project. To address this challenge, a tool to evaluate individual peer assessed contribution (IPAC) has been developed at University College London (UCL). The aim of this paper is to report on the perceptions of students regarding their experience of peer assessment in group work, since these perceptions are key to ensuring that a tool, such as IPAC, is accepted and used effectively by staff and students alike. The views of 133 students were acquired through anonymous surveys and focus groups ranging from first year undergraduate to doctoral students across 12 different departments. Results showed that 92% of students are in favour of peer assessment with a positive trend to using the IPAC tool. Receiving constructive feedback was considered imperative amongst respondents, which in turn should identify clearly the points of error; highlight explicitly the areas for improvement; and thus reflect accurately the mark being awarded. The attributes that students valued to be important when assessing their teammates were, in decreasing order of priority, attendance at meetings, listening and communication, actual contribution to the project deliverables, quality of the work produced, personal circumstances, and finally time management and organization skills.     AVALIAÇÃO DE STRESS OCUPACIONAL EM TEMPO DE CRISE: DESAFIOS À PSICOLOGIA 4.0

    O Stresse Ocupacional (SO) pode prejudicar seriamente a saúde física e mental dos trabalhadores. Esta temática tornou-se particularmente relevante na crise pandémica causada pela COVID-19, destacando-se os profissionais do sector da saúde, como aquele que esteve na linha da frente da resposta e nas pressões sofridas para as adaptações necessárias nos locais de trabalho. O presente estudo apresenta dados relativos a exposição a FRPs (avaliados com COPSOQ III), níveis de Distress e Resiliência. Dos 208 enfermeiros inquiridos, 56,3% apresentou níveis de Distress elevados e apenas 15,9% apresentou níveis de resiliência adequados. Para mais de 80% dos participantes o nível de exigências Emocionais e Cognitivas, representa risco elevado para a saúde. Os resultados contribuem com evidências que permitam o desenvolvimento de diretrizes de prevenção. No entanto, olhar para um fenómeno apenas num determinado momento pode ser limitativo, pois não reflete as mudanças ao longo do tempo. Neste contexto volátil, é urgente o desenvolvimento de ferramentas que permitam maximizar o processo de avaliação, prevenção e intervenção. Discute-se como técnicas de inteligência artificial e machine learning podem proporcionar oportunidades para ultrapassar limites e fazer análises precisas que, associadas a plataformas interativa de e-health, podem constituir-se como ferramentas de promoção da SO de alta aplicabilidade

    Summary One of the aims of the school as institution is to insert pupils, generally children and teenagers, in a culture developped in a wider social and economical context. School centres are strongly encouraged to accept the rules imposed by the social reproduction system leading groups. That is why the incorporation of the new technologies means, as printing press and audiovisual aids did in the past, a chance to spread knowledge among a bigger number of people, but -at the same time- it involves the risk of a mechanical, uncritical cultural assimilation which is likely to make clients more than citizens. Los centros escolares reciben numerosos estímulos para aceptar las reglas impuestas por los grupos hegemónicos en el sistema de reproducción social. Por ello la incorporación de las nuevas tecnologías representa, como en su momento fue la imprenta y los medios audiovisuales, una oportunidad para difundir el conocimiento entre un mayor número de ciudadanos, pero -al mismo tiempo- supone un riesgo de una asimilación cultural mecánica, poco crítica y que forme más a clientes que a ciudadanos.     Analysis of the Radon-222 Concentration and Physical-chemical Quality, in Drinking Water of Taxco, Guerrero

    In this work the determination of radon gas (222Rn) and the characterization of chemical elements in drinking water of the city Taxco was carried out. Ingesting or inhaling a small number of radionuclides, as well as water of poor chemical quality, can become a potential public health problem. We are collecting 8 samples of water from a spring, physicochemical parameters were measured in field on different days of the dry season. Measurements of 222Rn were performed in the laboratory with an AlphaGUARD equipment. The chemical quality was analyzed in laboratory too by means of mayor and minor ions, by volumetry and colorimetry. The sodium was determined by Flama Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (FAAS). Trace elements were analyzed by were determined by Atomic Emission Spectroscopy with Plasma Coupled by Induction (ICP-AES). The concentrations of 222Rn present an average of 22.06 ± 2.52 BqL-1. The results obtained from the main ions and field parameters show a type of diluted sodium-calcium-bicarbonate water. The trace elements present are very small and not exceed the limit of quantification. Radon gas is produced by the igneous rock that is the top of the stratigraphic column, of the hydric recharge. Rainwater when descending through the fractures is impregnated with 222Rn gas and accumulated in the underlying rock that has sufficient porosity to accumulate water and gas in the Chacualco´s spring

    A flow system with in-line blank correction applied to the spectrophotometric determination of total iron and chromium (VI) in wastewaters

    A flow system using the sample as the carrier with a propulsion device located after the detector is presented. This approach allows the correction of the intrinsic color of the sample, as it provides baseline adjustment for each sample. A confluence situated just after the selection valve allows the sample composition to be adjusted for the colorimetric measurement. The developed methodology was applied to the colorimetric determination of total Fe and Cr (VI) in wastewaters at 0.1–6.0 mg L–1 and 0.03–1.0 mg L–1, respectively.     The communicative management of large companies in Spain: structure, resources and main challenges of their managers

    This article studies the communicative structures of the main companies in Spain. Based on the fact that these organisations have significant economic and human resources, the structure of their communication areas is analysed, as well as the specific training of their top managers. In addition, the article will outline the main concerns that these organisational structures have with regard to the day-to-day management of business communication (transparency, reputation, identity, etc.). To do this, the object of the study is made up of the main companies in the Spanish continuous market, some of them included in the Ibex 35 in 2018. This population has been selected because it has the greatest impact on the national economy and is susceptible to greater information transparency.El presente artículo reflexiona sobre las estructuras comunicativas de las principales empresas españolas. Partiendo de la base de que estas organizaciones tienen importantes recursos económicos y humanos, se analiza la organización de sus áreas de comunicación, las prácticas que llevan a cabo y la formación específica de sus máximos responsables. Además, se detallan las principales preocupaciones y retos de esos departamentos de comunicación en el presente y el futuro inmediato (transparencia, reputación, identidad, etc.).
