Resistência multipla e resposta de hiperasensibilidade do cafeeiro 'Conilon 14' a Meloidogyne ssp.
Os nematoides das galhas (NG), Meloidogyne spp. causam um grande impacto econômico na produção de café no Brasil. Embora, Coffea canephora seja fonte de resistência a Meloidogyne spp., não existem estudos histológicos que comparem mecanismos de resistência de cafeeiros: suscetível e resistente. Dois clones de cafeeiros Conilon, 14 e 22, foram selecionados previamente, como resistente e suscetível a M. incognita e M. paranaensis. A reação dos diferentes clones foi semelhante para as duas espécies de nematóides estudadas. O clone 14 apresentou reação de hipersensibilidade (RH) a partir do 4° ao 6° dias após a inoculação (DAI), na região do cortex da raiz, o que provocou morte celular, impedindo o nematoide de se desenvolver. Ao 12° DAI, ocorreu a formação de poucas células gigantes na região do cilindro vascular, ao lado de J3/J4 se desenvolvendo normalmente. A partir do 20° ao 45°DAI foi observada RH, com morte celular ao redor de fêmeas e células gigantes, estando essas completamente degeneradas. Nesse período, algumas fêmeas que conseguiram se desenvolver apresentaram formação de primórdios dos ovários e não se observou a produção de ovos. Já nos clones suscetíveis, 22 e Catuaí IAC 81, células gigantes bem formadas e fêmeas adultas apareceram do 38° ao 45° DAÍ, com produção de ovos. Algumas plantas inoculadas foram mantidas até o 300 DAÍ para quantificar novamente os Fatores de Reprodução (FR). Esses resultados servirão de base para estudos posteriores de expressão gênica para examinar profundamente a resistência ao NG a nível molecular
Implications for the use of acid preservatives in 24-hour urine for measurements of high demand biochemical analytes in clinical laboratories
Background: Evaluate the level of interference of biochemists dosages in the 24-hour urine using or not the 6 mol/l HCl acid in different concentrations and conditions and its implications in the most demanded analytes in clinical laboratory.Methods: Twenty-two volunteers collected three 24-hour urine in 3 conditions: with 5 ml/l and 20 ml/l of 6 mol/l HCl in the container, and without acid preservative. the samples collected without preservative were separated in aliquots and added 5 ml/l of 6 mol/l HCl after 24 h. Analytes, uric acid creatinine, urea, chlorides, glucose, magnesium, sodium, potassium, microalbumin, proteins, amylase, aldosterone, calcium, cortisol, phosphorus, citric acid, oxalate, and metanephrines, were determined.Results: Uric acid, glucose, microalbumin, protein, amylase and aldosterone showed that %CV ranging from 16 to 57% in the presence of acid preservative. Analytes that need acid preservative cortisol, citric acid and oxalate showed %CV ranging from 6 to 27% with r=0.66, r=0.77, r=0.70 respectively provided 5 ml/l after delivery and r=0.31, r=0.70 and r=0.48 without preservative acid when compared with the gold standard (with 20 ml/l of 6 mol/l HCl).Conclusions: Glucose, microalbumin, protein, amylase and aldosterone urinary did not show good performance in the presence of acid preservative. Analytes that need acid preservative showed variation acceptable in condition 5 ml/l of 6 mol/l HCl added after 24 h. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. Antiparasitic Activity of Natural and Semi-Synthetic Tirucallane Triterpenoids from Schinus terebinthifolius (Anacardiaceae): Structure/Activity Relationships
Leishmaniasis and Chagas are diseases caused by parasitic protozoans that affect the poorest population in the World, causing a high mortality and morbidity. As a result of highly toxic and long-term treatments, the discovery of novel, safe and more efficacious drugs is essential. in this work, the in vitro antiparasitic activity and mammalian cytotoxicity of three natural tirucallane triterpenoids, isolated from leaves of Schinus terebinthifolius (Anacardiaceae), and nine semi-synthetic derivatives were investigated against Leishmania (L.) infantum and Trypanosoma cruzi. Trypomastigotes of T. cruzi were the most susceptible parasites and seven compounds demonstrated a trypanocidal activity with IC50 values in the range between 15 and 58 mu g/mL. Four compounds demonstrated selectivity towards the intracellular amastigotes of Leishmania, with IC50 values in the range between 28 and 97 mu g/mL. the complete characterization of triterpenoids was afforded after thorough analysis of nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data as well as electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS). Multifunctional Hybrid MoS2-PEGylated/Au Nanostructures with Potential Theranostic Applications in Biomedicine
In this work, flower-like molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) microspheres were produced with polyethylene glycol (PEG) to form MoS2-PEG. Likewise, gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were added to form MoS2-PEG/Au to investigate its potential application as a theranostic nanomaterial. These nanomaterials were fully characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), photoelectron X-ray spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier-transformed infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), cyclic voltammetry and impedance spectroscopy. The produced hierarchical MoS2-PEG/Au microstructures showed an average diameter of 400 nm containing distributed gold nanoparticles, with great cellular viability on tumoral and non-tumoral cells. This aspect makes them with multifunctional characteristics with potential application for cancer diagnosis and therapy. Through the complete morphological and physicochemical characterization, it was possible to observe that both MoS2-PEG and MoS2-PEG/Au showed good chemical stability and demonstrated noninterference in the pattern of the cell nucleus, as well. Thus, our results suggest the possible application of these hybrid nanomaterials can be immensely explored for theranostic proposals in biomedicine
Discovery and characterisation of two Neptune-mass planets orbiting HD 212729 with TESS
We report the discovery of two exoplanets orbiting around HD 212729
(TOI\,1052, TIC 317060587), a K star with V=9.51 observed by
TESS in Sectors 1 and 13. One exoplanet, TOI-1052b, is Neptune-mass and
transits the star, and an additional planet TOI-1052c is observed in radial
velocities but not seen to transit. We confirm the planetary nature of
TOI-1052b using precise radial velocity observations from HARPS and determined
its parameters in a joint RV and photometry analysis. TOI-1052b has a radius of
R, a mass of M, and
an orbital period of 9.14 days. TOI-1052c does not show any transits in the
TESS data, and has a minimum mass of M and an
orbital period of 35.8 days, placing it just interior to the 4:1 mean motion
resonance. Both planets are best fit by relatively high but only marginally
significant eccentricities of for planet b and
for planet c. We perform a dynamical analysis and
internal structure model of the planets as well as deriving stellar parameters
and chemical abundances. The mean density of TOI-1052b is g
cm consistent with an internal structure similar to Neptune. A nearby
star is observed in Gaia DR3 with the same distance and proper motion as
TOI-1052, at a sky projected separation of ~1500AU, making this a potential

TESS Hunt for Young and Maturing Exoplanets (THYME) IX: a 27 Myr extended population of Lower-Centaurus Crux with a transiting two-planet system
We report the discovery and characterization of a nearby (~ 85 pc), older (27
+/- 3 Myr), distributed stellar population near Lower-Centaurus-Crux (LCC),
initially identified by searching for stars co-moving with a candidate
transiting planet from TESS (HD 109833; TOI 1097). We determine the association
membership using Gaia kinematics, color-magnitude information, and rotation
periods of candidate members. We measure it's age using isochrones,
gyrochronology, and Li depletion. While the association is near known
populations of LCC, we find that it is older than any previously found LCC
sub-group (10-16 Myr), and distinct in both position and velocity. In addition
to the candidate planets around HD 109833 the association contains four
directly-imaged planetary-mass companions around 3 stars, YSES-1, YSES-2, and
HD 95086, all of which were previously assigned membership in the younger LCC.
Using the Notch pipeline, we identify a second candidate transiting planet
around HD 109833. We use a suite of ground-based follow-up observations to
validate the two transit signals as planetary in nature. HD 109833 b and c join
the small but growing population of <100 Myr transiting planets from TESS. HD
109833 has a rotation period and Li abundance indicative of a young age (< 100
Myr), but a position and velocity on the outskirts of the new population, lower
Li levels than similar members, and a CMD position below model predictions for
27 Myr. So, we cannot reject the possibility that HD 109833 is a young field

The Long-Baseline Neutrino Experiment: Exploring Fundamental Symmetries of the Universe
The preponderance of matter over antimatter in the early Universe, the
dynamics of the supernova bursts that produced the heavy elements necessary for
life and whether protons eventually decay --- these mysteries at the forefront
of particle physics and astrophysics are key to understanding the early
evolution of our Universe, its current state and its eventual fate. The
Long-Baseline Neutrino Experiment (LBNE) represents an extensively developed
plan for a world-class experiment dedicated to addressing these questions. LBNE
is conceived around three central components: (1) a new, high-intensity
neutrino source generated from a megawatt-class proton accelerator at Fermi
National Accelerator Laboratory, (2) a near neutrino detector just downstream
of the source, and (3) a massive liquid argon time-projection chamber deployed
as a far detector deep underground at the Sanford Underground Research
Facility. This facility, located at the site of the former Homestake Mine in
Lead, South Dakota, is approximately 1,300 km from the neutrino source at
Fermilab -- a distance (baseline) that delivers optimal sensitivity to neutrino
charge-parity symmetry violation and mass ordering effects. This ambitious yet
cost-effective design incorporates scalability and flexibility and can
accommodate a variety of upgrades and contributions. With its exceptional
combination of experimental configuration, technical capabilities, and
potential for transformative discoveries, LBNE promises to be a vital facility
for the field of particle physics worldwide, providing physicists from around
the globe with opportunities to collaborate in a twenty to thirty year program
of exciting science. In this document we provide a comprehensive overview of
LBNE's scientific objectives, its place in the landscape of neutrino physics
worldwide, the technologies it will incorporate and the capabilities it will

Skin color and severe maternal outcomes: evidence from the brazilian network for surveillance of severe maternal morbidity
Taking into account the probable role that race/skin color may have for determining outcomes in maternal health, the objective of this study was to assess whether maternal race/skin color is a predictor of severe maternal morbidity. This is a secondary analysis of the Brazilian Network for Surveillance of Severe Maternal Morbidity, a national multicenter cross-sectional study of 27 Brazilian referral maternity hospitals. A prospective surveillance was performed to identify cases of maternal death (MD), maternal near miss (MNM) events, and potentially life-threatening conditions (PLTC), according to standard WHO definition and criteria. Among 9,555 women with severe maternal morbidity, data on race/skin color was available for 7,139 women, who were further divided into two groups: 4,108 nonwhite women (2,253 black and 1,855 from other races/skin color) and 3,031 white women. Indicators of severe maternal morbidity according to WHO definition are shown by skin color group. Adjusted Prevalence Ratios (PRadj - 95%CI) for Severe Maternal Outcome (SMO=MNM+MD) were estimated according to sociodemographic/obstetric characteristics, pregnancy outcomes, and perinatal results considering race. Results. Among 7,139 women with severe maternal morbidity evaluated, 90.5% were classified as PLTC, 8.5% as MNM, and 1.6% as MD. There was a significantly higher prevalence of MNM and MD among white women. MNMR (maternal near miss ratio) was 9.37 per thousand live births (LB). SMOR (severe maternal outcome ratio) was 11.08 per 1000 LB, and MMR (maternal mortality ratio) was 170.4 per 100,000 LB. Maternal mortality to maternal near miss ratio was 1 to 5.2, irrespective of maternal skin color. Hypertension, the main cause of maternal complications, affected mostly nonwhite women. Hemorrhage, the second more common cause of maternal complication, predominated among white women. Nonwhite skin color was associated with a reduced risk of SMO in multivariate analysis. Nonwhite skin color was associated with a lower risk for severe maternal outcomes. TESS spots a mini-neptune interior to a hot saturn in the TOI-2000 system
Hot jupiters (P 60 ) are almost always found
alone around their stars, but four out of hundreds known have inner companion
planets. These rare companions allow us to constrain the hot jupiter's
formation history by ruling out high-eccentricity tidal migration. Less is
known about inner companions to hot Saturn-mass planets. We report here the
discovery of the TOI-2000 system, which features a hot Saturn-mass planet with
a smaller inner companion. The mini-neptune TOI-2000 b (, ) is in a 3.10-day
orbit, and the hot saturn TOI-2000 c (, ) is in a
9.13-day orbit. Both planets transit their host star TOI-2000 (TIC 371188886, V
= 10.98, TESS magnitude = 10.36), a metal-rich ([Fe/H] =
) G dwarf 174 pc away. TESS observed the two planets
in sectors 9-11 and 36-38, and we followed up with ground-based photometry,
spectroscopy, and speckle imaging. Radial velocities from CHIRON, FEROS, and
HARPS allowed us to confirm both planets by direct mass measurement. In
addition, we demonstrate constraining planetary and stellar parameters with
MIST stellar evolutionary tracks through Hamiltonian Monte Carlo under the PyMC
framework, achieving higher sampling efficiency and shorter run time compared
to traditional Markov chain Monte Carlo. Having the brightest host star in the
V band among similar systems, TOI-2000 b and c are superb candidates for
atmospheric characterization by the JWST, which can potentially distinguish
whether they formed together or TOI-2000 c swept along material during
