    Get PDF
Depression is the most common mental disorder, affecting around 5% of adolescents. Physical fitness is considered a powerful marker of physical and mental health. The scientific results on the relationship between physical fitness and depression in the adolescent population are mixed. Therefore, the aim of the current study was to analyse the association between objectively assessed physical fitness and self-rated risk of depression in a group of adolescents. A total of 225 participants (44% girls), aged 13.9 ± 0.3 years, from the Deporte, ADOlescencia y Salud (DADOS) study were included in the analyses. Field-based Assessing Levels of Physical fitness and Health in Adolescents (ALPHA) health-related fitness test battery was used to objectively assess physical fitness components. The Behavior Assessment System for Children (BASC) level 3 was used to evaluate self-rated risk of depression. Our results showed that self-rated risk of depression was inversely associated with cardiorespiratory fitness (β = −0.172), as well as positively associated with body mass index (β = 0.146) and waist circumference (β = 0.137) (all p < 0.05). Adolescents with low levels of cardiorespiratory fitness had significantly higher odds of self-rated risk of depression (OR = 7.17; 95% CI, 1.51–33.95). These findings suggest that health-related physical fitness, particularly cardiorespiratory fitness and body composition, is associated with depression in adolescents

Audiovisual narrative, re-enactment, and historical education: Hospitals in the Spanish Civil War

The audiovisual narrative is a widely used resource in the presentation of diverse historical content. Historical recreation, thanks to its ability to generate images of the past, when combined with the use of emerging digital technologies (CGI, computer-generated imagery), allows optimization of audiovisual narratives that present images and contexts of the past and its heritage. From a perspective of promoting historical thought, high school and higher education students can take part in initiatives of historical recreation (in the key to service learning). This process allows its incorporation into the production of educational history products, which can be reapplied in formal and non-formal teaching-learning spaces. The experience developed by the DIDPATRI group (Heritage Didactics) of the University of Barcelona (2017- 2021), based on projects set in the health problems of the Spanish Civil War, has generated guidelines for the development of a digital audiovisual narrative of didactic character based on activities of historical recreation and service learning in contexts of public history and archeology

Multiple simultaneous Wi-Fi measurements in fingerprinting indoor positioning

    Get PDF
The accuracy of fingerprinting-based positioning methods accuracy is limited by the fluctuations in the radio signal intensity mainly due to reflections, refractions, and multipath interference, among other factors. We consider that the fluctuations (often modelled as a Gaussian process for simplification purposes) can be minimized by exploiting the richness of multiple signals collected simultaneously through independent network interfaces. This paper introduces an analysis of Wi-Fi signals' statistics using simultaneous measurements which shows that RSSI values obtained from independent devices are not highly correlated. The low correlation between Wi-Fi interfaces might be exploited to improve the positioning accuracy. The validation of the proposed fingerprinting approach in a real scenario shows that the mean and maximum error in positioning can be reduced by more than 40% when five Wi-Fi interfaces are simultaneously used for fingerprinting. This work has been supported by COMPETE: POCI-01- 0145-FEDER-007043 and FCT—Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia within the scope of project UID/CEC/00319/2013, by the Portugal Incentive System for Research and Technological Development in the scope of the projects in co- promotion no 002814/2015 (iFACTORY 2015-2018), and by the José Castillejo mobility grant (CAS16/00072).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Kinanthropometric characteristics in teenager basketball players

    Get PDF
Introduction: Basketball is a sport with a high heterogeneity anthropometric as playing position. Point guard is usually the lowest player but also the fastest. Guard is similar to point guard, faster and more agile than the others. Small forward has an intermediate height between the inside and outside players and it combines height with velocity. And center (pivot) has a physical role, it has the highest and more muscle mass. The aim of this study is to describe the kinanthropometric profile of male cadet “Valencia Basket Club”. Material and Methods: A total of 20 male cadet basketball players were evaluated (15.35±0.59 years old). An anthropometrist level 1 took anthropometric measures according to the methodology of the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry (ISAK). Body composition was calculated according to the kinanthropometry consensus of the Kinanthropometry Spanish Group (GREC), somatotype with Heath-Carter’s method and adipose-muscular and cardiovascular risk index. Results: Differences in values of weight, height, skinfold and body composition from variables of sample and position were observed. Lower values were from point guard position and higher values were from center position. An increasing trend of these parameters was established in the following order: point guard, guard, small forward and center. Conclusions: The Valencia Basket Club cadet player overall somatotype is balance ectomorph. To know kinanthropometric profile may be beneficial to develop specific training and nutrition plans as well as to see evolution and characteristics for optimal performance

[EN] The Museu Particular is a project born in the middle of the pandemic that aims to give a voice to everyday objects, turning them into museum pieces and valuing the heritage that we all have around us and of which we form part. An example of hybridisation, heritage education and storytelling, it consisted of exhibiting an everyday object on a monthly basis throughout the 2021 and disseminating as much content as possible. Specifically, it was carried out in two ways: in physical format, at the Museu de la Vida Rural located in l'Espluga de Francolí (Tarragona), and virtually, with a profile on Twitter, Instagram and a web-blog. All this has led to the creation of a loyal virtual community. It has also had an impact on national and international press. Get PDF
Introduction: eating disorders (ED) are complex multifactorial chronic diseases with adverse consequences on cognition in adolescence. Objectives: the main aim of the present study was to analyze the association between the risk of ED and academic performance in adolescents, considering the key role of weight status. Methods: a total of 261 adolescents (13.9 ± 0.3 years) from the DADOS (Deporte, Adolescencia y Salud) Study were included in the analysis. The risk of ED was assessed using the Sick Control on Fast Food (SCOFF) questionnaire. Weight status was assessed by body mass index (BMI) (kg/m2 ). Academic performance was assessed through final grades and through the Spanish version of the SRA Test of Educational Ability (TEA). Results: the risk of ED was negatively associated with academic grades, and with verbal and numeric abilities measured through TEA. Adolescents with non-eating disorder risk showed higher scores in academic grades (but not in the TEA components). Overweight and obese adolescents reported higher risk of ED. Conclusions: the risk of ED is negatively associated with academic performance, being higher in overweight and obese adolescents.

Background Reduced muscle mass has been associated with increased treatment complications in several tumor types. We evaluated the impact of skeletal muscle index (SMI) on prognosis and immune-related adverse events (IrAEs) in a cohort of recurrent/metastatic (R/M) head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) treated with immune checkpoints inhibitors (ICI). Methods A single-institutional, retrospective study was performed including 61 consecutive patients of R/M HNSCC diagnosed between July 2015 and December 2018. SMI was quantified using a CT scan at L3 to evaluate body composition. Median baseline SMI was used to dichotomize patients in low and high SMI. Kaplan-Meier estimations were used to detect overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). Toxicity was recorded using Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Event v4.3. Results Patients were 52 men (85.2%) with mean of age 57.7 years (SD 9.62), mainly oral cavity (n = 21; 34.4%). Low SMI was an independent factor for OS in the univariate (HR, 2.06; 95% CI, 1.14-3.73, p = 0.017) and multivariate Cox analyses (HR, 2.99; 95% CI, 1.29-6.94; p = 0.011). PFS was also reduced in patients with low SMI (PFS HR, 1.84; 95% CI, 1.08-3.12; p = 0.025). IrAEs occurred in 29 (47.5%) patients. There was no association between low SMI and IrAEs at any grade (OR, 0.56; 95% CI, 0.20-1.54; p = 0.261). However, grades 3 to 4 IrAEs were developed in seven patients of whom three had low SMI. Conclusions Low SMI before ICI treatment in R/M HNSCC patients had a negative impact on OS and PFS. Further prospective research is needed to confirm the role of body composition as a predictive biomarker in ICI treatment

La batalla de la Fatarella, 1938. Museografia, iconografia, recreació i memòria. Un model transversal de recerca didàctica

    Get PDF
