    Background of the "Studio Glass Movement" sculpture from the blown glass artworks of 1800-1950

    This work shows a historic-artistic analysis on the technological and cultural influences of the glass artworks of the 1800-1950 period on the so-called Studio Glass Movement. Blown glass artworks depend on both the state of the art of the glass technology and the experience and creative skills of the artist. During 1800-1950 blown glass artworks experienced an important boost due to the technical and scientific development of this material. The glass became the main character of Art Nouveau and Art Déco tendencies, and nowadays possesses a preferential position in both contemporary sculpture and decorative arts. Such glass artworks strongly contributed to the born and growth of the Studio Glass Movement, the contemporary tendency with higher sculptural impact. Technical and artistic properties of representative glass artworks from factories, workshops or schools from the countries where they were developed are described. Likewise, the contemporary glass sculpture characteristics are revealed showing their connection to traditional creation techniques and the glassmakers artistic experience transmission.</p

    This paper presents a historic overview on the artistic glass manifestations in East Asia countries, where this material had a significant impact. It is analysed the historic evolution of artistic glass from its origin in China on the 6th century BC up to now. Likewise, it is pointed out a relationship between such evolution and the historic aspects that influenced the glass development as an artistic material, especially when glass is used in sculptural artworks.Se realiza un recorrido histórico de las manifestaciones artísticas realizadas en vidrio en los países de Asia oriental en los que este material tuvo una repercusión notable. Se sigue la evolución histórica del vidrio artístico desde su primera aparición en China alrededor del siglo VI a.C. hasta la actualidad, y dicha evolución se correlaciona con los aspectos históricos que supusieron una influencia importante en el desarrollo del vidrio como material artístico y, en especial, escultórico

    This article focuses mainly on identifying innovative andragogical experiences and educational links established between contemporary artists and university students outside the formal teaching. Its structure consists of an introduction that defines the theoretical and contextual framework, the objectives pursued, the methodology and analytical development results. The analysis of educational concepts, resulting in the kind of knowledge and artistic andragogic, conceptually form a generative teaching in the context of non-formal teaching.     EI trabajo de investigacion presentado no se puede encuadrar como invento o patente; es, a modo de resumen, la adaptacion de un proceso industrial de fundición, inventado hace aproximadamente 40 años, aplicado al campo de la creacion en Bellas Artes, y mas concretamente a la creación escultorica. La comunicacion que seguidamente les vamos a presentar responde principalmente a una iniciativa surgida como consecuencia de la concesion de un Proyecto delnvestigación I+D MAT-95-I071 E de la CICYT para el estudio y perfeccionamiento de dicha tecnica, utilizable en el campo plastico y artístico. Así mismo, y gracias a la colaboración entre dos Departamentos Universitarios de la Universidad de Granada (Escultura y Mineralogia y Petrología), se pretende, una vez desarrollado y perfeccionado el metodo anteriormente citado, profundizar en el conocimiento de los materiales constitutivos y. mejorar en Ia medida de lo posible, una técnica por sí misma novedosa. Concretamente, la posterior investigación se ha centrado en la caracterizacion de las propiedades físico-quimicas y, plastico termicas (entre otras) del recubrimiento refractario empleado, que es una roca denominada Calcarenita-bioclástica, localizada principal mente en La Rambla-Córdoba.The present research work can not elucidate like an invention or patent; it is, as summary, the adaptation of a industrial process of fusion, which was invented forty years ago approximately. It was applied to fields of Fine Arts creation, specifically to the sculpture creation. This communication is mainly an initiative, which emerges as consequence of the concession of a research project: I + 0MAT -95-1071 E (CICYT), for the study and improving ofthis technique, which is valid in the plastic and artistic fields. Likewise, and thanks to collaboration between Universit y Departments of Granada University (Sculpture and Mineralogy and Petrology). When that method is developed and better, we try to deep in to the knowledge of constitutive materials and get better, in the possible proportions, a inventive technique. Los objetos artísticos de vidrio realizados por soplado dependen tanto del estado de la tecnología vidriera como de la experiencia y sentido creativo del artista. Dichas obras de arte experimentaron un gran impulso en el periodo mencionado como consecuencia del desarrollo técnico del vidrio en el ámbito industrial y del avance de las investigaciones científicas. El vidrio se erigió protagonista del Art Nouveau y Art Déco,y actualmente ocupa un lugar preferente en la escultura y las artes decorativas contemporáneas. Estas obras en vidrio han contribuido contundentemente al nacimiento y expansión del Studio Glass Movement, la tendencia contemporánea de arte en vidrio de mayor repercusión escultórica. Se describen las propiedades técnicas y artísticas de las obras representativas de las fábricas, talleres o escuelas de los países donde obtuvieron un mayor desarrollo. Asimismo, se desvelan las características de la escultura contemporánea en vidrio deudoras de las técnicas de ejecución tradicionales y de la trasmisión de la experiencia artística entre vidrieros.
