Fostering of Entrepreneurship Competencies and Entrepreneurial Intentions in a Weak Ecosystem

This exploratory study conducted in the transitional context of Ukraine explores whether students drawn from a supportive entrepreneurship education (EE) reported higher intensity of entrepreneurial intention (IOEI) than students that did not participate in EE. Further, this study explores what specific competencies honed within a supportive EE are associated with students reporting high IOEI. Guided by competency theory, two hypotheses were tested with regard to a representative sample of 125 business EE students, and a further 64 engineering students that had never participated in EE. EE students drawn from a supportive educational entrepreneurial ecosystem were found to be associated with significantly higher IOEI. With regard to 13 competencies honed by EE, it was found that only three competencies (the ability to identify high quality opportunities, computer literacy, and networking) were significantly albeit to a weak degree associated with higher IOEI. Additional studies are warranted in several former Soviet Union contexts to provide a rigorous evidence base to guide resource allocation decisions of the government with regard to supporting EE and entrepreneurial ecosystems. This exploratory study relating to the sample of students in one entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Ukraine does not provide conclusive evidence for the government to more proactively support the educational entrepreneurial ecosystem with regard to its current content and delivery

    Partner Selection for Open Innovation

In this article, we consider open innovation from the perspectives of: i) causation and effectuation, and ii) social networking. Our empirical evidence consists of a case study of a late-stage open-innovation project aimed at creating a hybrid ship that uses liquid natural gas and hydrogen as power sources. The results show that the effectuation approach is preferable to open innovation when the initiator of open innovation aims to keep sensitive information inside the closed group, when the initiator has established an effective team of representatives from other firms from earlier innovation projects, and when the participants are geographically close

Innovation on the Open Sea: Examining Competence Transfer and Open Innovation in the Design of Offshore Vessels

In this article, we discuss the role of open innovation in collaborative design processes in mature industries such as the shipping industry. We examine the design of high-tech offshore service vessels in environments characterized by high volatility and complexity. We elaborate on the role that accumulating and sharing core competences plays in speeding up the innovation process and increasing product value. We present a longitudinal case study of a shipping company implementing an open innovation approach that integrates its own core competences in offshore operations with the competences of ship designers and ship builders to develop a new design for challenging environments. In this article, we draw on an open innovation approach and a competence-based view to demonstrate how the firm can "reach out" to gain novel competences related to innovation, which may transform the competitive environment to the firm’s advantage. The article would be useful to innovation scholars and practitioners who work with innovative product development

The overwhelming goal of the research is to evaluate the attitudes and behaviours of youth towards sustain-ability issues and sustainable entrepreneurship. The current paper reflects the results of the first research stage and aims at testing a measurement scale that consists of three groups of items: 1) statements about environmental attitudes and behaviours, 2) general intention to start a sustainable business, 3) intention to start a social business in the field of the circular economy. The reliability analysis to measure the internal consistency of the scale was performed in SPSS environment, using Cronbach alpha. A focus group discussion was organized among business students to evaluate the perceived quality of the questionnaire.publishersversionPeer reviewe

Publisher Copyright: © 2023 Jelena Titko et al.Sustainable economic development is driven by sustainable entrepreneurial activities, generated by the personal attitudes of entrepreneurs. The present and future of sustainable entrepreneurship are shaped by the youth, including students, which is why it is important to understand their attitudes towards this type of entrepreneurship. Therefore, the key goal of the research is to evaluate the attitudes and behaviours of the youth towards sustainability issues and sustainable entrepreneurship. The current article reflects the results of the second research stage and aims at evaluating attitudes towards sustainable entrepreneurship among Latvian and Lithuanian students. The results reveal that gender/age affect personal environmental attitudes, however gender/age has no effect on personal willingness to start a sustainable business. The analysis results of the personal attitudes to sustainable entrepreneurship differ by age and gender. Gender has no effect and age strongly affects personal attitudes to sustainable development.Peer reviewe

The purpose of this exploratory study is to examine the influence of university enterprise programs on the development of entrepreneurial competencies and skills reported by students in Ukraine. I also aimed to explore the relationship between students’ skills, competencies and entrepreneurial intentions. The survey methodology was used in this study. Primary data was gathered with the help of a questionnaire. I explored the competencies and skills reported both by students who participated in university enterprise programs and those who had not taken part in the program. A oneway analysis of variance (ANOVA) was utilised to locate the difference in entrepreneurship competencies and skills of business and non-business students. The results suggest that students who have participated in university enterprise programs report higher levels of entrepreneurship-related skills. The findings presented have implications for practitioners, policymakers, government officers who support entrepreneurs, and educators who facilitate the development of the competences of young people

Innovation strategies in shipbuilding: the shipbuilding cycle perspective

    No full text
This paper investigates the innovation strategies of shipbuilding firms. The paper aims to understand the application of different innovation strategies adopted by firms in the shipbuilding industry related to the phase of the shipbuilding cycle. This is a conceptual paper aiming to summarize existing research in green shipbuilding, innovation and shipbuilding cycles. The paper also intends to shed new research avenues related to green innovation in the maritime sector. Issues relating to the aims of innovation development; environmental entrepreneurship, governmental support and how collaborative strategies were related to the phase of the shipbuilding cycle were explored. Implications for further research, practitioners, and policy-makers are provided. This paper investigates the innovation strategies of shipbuilding firms.
