The innermost regions of the jet in NRAO 150. Wobbling or internal rotation?

NRAO 150 is a very bright millimeter to radio quasar at redshift zz=1.52 for which ultra-high-resolution VLBI monitoring has revealed a counter-clockwise jet-position-angle wobbling at an angular speed 11\sim11^{\circ}/yr in the innermost regions of the jet. In this paper we present new total and linearly polarized VLBA images at 43 GHz extending previous studies to cover the evolution of the jet in NRAO 150 between 2006 and early 2009. We propose a new scenario to explain the counter-clockwise rotation of the jet position angle based on a helical motion of the components in a jet viewed faced-on. This alternative scenario is compatible with the interpretation suggested in previous works once the indetermination of the absolute position of the self-calibrated VLBI images is taken into account. Fitting of the jet components motion to a simple internal rotation kinematical model shows that this scenario is a likely alternative explanation for the behavior of the innermost regions in the jet of NRAO 150.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, Presented in 'The Innermost Regions of Relativistic Jets and Their Magnetic Fields' conference. MAPCAT: Monitoring AGN with Polarimetry at the Calar Alto Telescopes

We introduce MAPCAT, a long-term observing program for "Monitoring of AGN with Polarimetry at the Calar Alto Telescopes". Multi-spectral-range studies are critical to understand some of the most relevant current problems of high energy astrophysics of blazars such as their high energy emission mechanisms and the location of their gamma-ray emission region through event associations across the spectrum. Adding multi-spectral-range polarimetry allows for even more reliable identification of polarized flares across the spectrum in these kind of objects, as well as for more accurate modeling of their magnetic field. As part of a major international effort to study the long term multi-spectral range polarimetric behavior of blazars, MAPCAT uses -since mid 2007- CAFOS on the 2.2m Telescope at the Calar Alto Observatory (Almeria, Spain) to obtain monthly optical (R-band) photo-polarimetric measurements of a sample of 34 of the brightest gamma-ray, optical, and radio-millimeter blazars accessible from the northern hemisphere.Comment: To be published in the proceedings of High Energy Phenomena in Relativistic Outflows III (HEPRO III, IJMPCS). 4 page

Feeling submerged in an indefinite limbo, neither here nor there, in both and neither; a construction of memory from the windows of others, which I turn into something of my own from the gaze.

Mental health is a basic element in the sport performance of athletes, who, due to the multitude of stressful components with which they live, represent a population group that exceeds a 30% of prevelance in mental disorders. Being young and being a woman multiplies up to 1.3 times the risk of suffering one of these. Objective: To examine the conditioning factors of the mental health of young women athletes residing in our country. Method: A cross-sectional descriptive study is presented with a sample of 200 young athletes residing in High Performance Centers that depend on the Superior Sports Center of our country. Through the General Health Questionnaire GHC-12 and the SWLS scale, the psychological morbidity and personal satisfaction with life of the athletes (mental health measures) will be assessed. With the rest of the questions and the Duke-UNC Functional Social Support questionnaire, it will be possible to study how the different specific factors of female sports affect the mental health of these women

A multi-wavelength polarimetric study of the blazar CTA 102 during A gamma-ray flare in 2012

Casadio, Carolina et. al.We perform a multi-wavelength polarimetric study of the quasar CTA 102 during an extraordinarily bright γ-ray outburst detected by the Fermi Large Area Telescope in 2012 September-October when the source reached a flux of F = 5.2 ± 0.4 × 10 photons cm s. At the same time, the source displayed an unprecedented optical and near-infrared (near-IR) outburst. We study the evolution of the parsec-scale jet with ultra-high angular resolution through a sequence of 80 total and polarized intensity Very Long Baseline Array images at 43 GHz, covering the observing period from 2007 June to 2014 June. We find that the γ-ray outburst is coincident with flares at all the other frequencies and is related to the passage of a new superluminal knot through the radio core. The powerful γ-ray emission is associated with a change in direction of the jet, which became oriented more closely to our line of sight (θ ∼ 1.°2) during the ejection of the knot and the γ-ray outburst. During the flare, the optical polarized emission displays intra-day variability and a clear clockwise rotation of electric vector position angles (EVPAs), which we associate with the path followed by the knot as it moves along helical magnetic field lines, although a random walk of the EVPA caused by a turbulent magnetic field cannot be ruled out. We locate the γ-ray outburst a short distance downstream of the radio core, parsecs from the black hole. This suggests that synchrotron self-Compton scattering of NIR to ultraviolet photons is the probable mechanism for the γ-ray production. This research has been supported by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) grant AYA2013-40825-P. From the epistemic framework that understands the art production as one which is capable of having knowledge, the transformation of the theses on Plastic Arts of the Facultad de Bellas Artes (FBA), Universidad Nacional de La Plata (UNLP) is analyzed. This change, which took place between 2011 and 2012 and in which the number of pages is reduced from 30 to 5, creates distance from the traditional point of view of knowledge, with a discursive and logocentric focus, and approximates a concept of knowledge built from the research in art, which focus is experiential and hermeneutical. With this aim, three study cases from three graduates in Plastic Arts are taken into account and the real differences between a thesis on Plastic Arts and one on History of Art are separated and analyzed.
