National Television in Putin's Russia - The Media's Changing Role in Society and the Consolidation of Competitive Authoritarianism
Over the course of Putin's two terms as president, national television, the most important form of media for the Russian population, fell increasingly under the control of the state and many independent channels were dismantled. Employing the 2000 and 2008 presidential elections as case studies, this thesis looks at the decline of media independence in Russia since the 1990s and considers the changing role of the mass media in Russian society and politics. In the late 1990s national television served as a means for competing oligarchs to propagate their views and political aspirations to the public. However, by 2008, pro-Kremlin coverage had become the dominant voice on national television. This is a reflection of wider trends of the time. Putin transformed the weak government that lacked sufficient coercive and organisational capacity to respond to elite challenges into a competitive authoritarian regime, where elections remain competitive, but the media and other crucial resources are biased in favour of the incumbent candidate

Обмен мнениями по поводу статьи Мартина Мюллера «Разыскивая глобальный Восток»
This section presents exchanges between intellectuals from Eastern and Western Europe, Russia, and North America who kindly agreed to read and comment on Martin Mueller’s article “In Search of the Global East”, relying on the situation in their own academic disciplines, work experiences, and the twists and turns of their scientific research and creative challenges. Researchers, academic teachers, exhibition curators, writers, and architects reflect on the power and influence which geographical names exert on academic life, politics, and culture. Starting from Mueller’s article on the Global East, as well as his other text wherein he expresses his skepticism of the concept of post-socialism, the commentators, evaluating Mueller’s arguments critically, raise a number of fundamental questions. Among these questions is the need to historicize scientific concepts, the issue of the regularly-reproducible misunderstanding (or even exclusion) of the East by Western intellectuals, the tasks the inclusion of the Global East in the overall geographical picture will contribute to, as well as the question of whether the concern that the Global East is not sufficiently heard in the world is narrowly academic. This indirect debate between the author of the key text in this thematic issue and his commentators is significant as an episode of the joint search for a more democratic, creative, and inspiring future for the region that unites Eastern Europe, Russia, and Central Asia. © 2020, RUSSIAN SOCIOLOGICAL REVIEW. Ką jie man duoda? Kodėl jais galiu pasakyti praktiškai viską, kas man aktualu šiame gyvenimo etape. There is a moment in almost every creator‘s life when he wants to understand himself, figure out the internal processes and answer the questions related to emotions and feelings change. Some people are looking for the answers in older age, other start to care about that already in the beginning of their creative career. Personally, I faced the problem of self-perception quite recently. The key questions, like why I am different every day, why I feel exactly that way today, why my emotional state is unstable, encouraged the interest to myself, my internal state and to what has been long accumulating and happening today in it. An important need for the internal dialogue and aspiration for the understanding of my personal connection to the painting has appeared. During the creative process I began to observe what was the relationship of the emotions to the color and form. I began to look for the answers: why my works are dominated by circles, what they give me, why they help me to express virtually everything what is actual to me at the current stage of life. Observation of the environment and the wish to discover something new for myself developed the skill of quick visual matching of three colors, which now significantly helps to solve color problems and facilitates the color combinations. Color emotional value and it‘s relation to circle became the purpose of my creative work. Various artist of their time were solving various problems with the help of circles, but every one did that in his own way, according to his needs, aspirations and desires. This is also my creative principle: „My works can say about what I am today“.Švietimo akademijaVytauto Didžiojo universiteta
Veiksmų ir rezultatų pavadinimų daryba ir jų atitikmenys vertimuose anglų ir lietuvių kalbose.
The subject of the bachelor thesis is action and result nouns in English and Lithuanian. This thesis aims to conduct a comparative analysis of the formation of action (nomina actionis) and result nouns (nomina acti) in English and Lithuanian languages, and their equivalents in translations of chosen novels. To accomplish the aim, the theoretical overview of action and result nouns was first reviewed. The morphological characteristics, semantic differences and similarities of action and result nouns in English and Lithuanian were then investigated. Finally, all action and result nouns and their equivalents that were found in Lithuanian and English novels and their translations were examined. The paper was divided into five parts: the introduction, the theoretical overview, the methodology, the analysis, and the conclusions. The data was collected from two novels, Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451 and Škėma’s White Shroud, and from their translations. Quantitative and qualitative methods were applied to conduct the analysis. The results showed that the most productive way to form English action nouns is to add the suffix -ing. Action nouns mostly presented the equivalents of Lithuanian verbs and nouns with -imas suffix. The English result nouns formed with suffixes presented equivalents of Lithuanian action nouns with the -imas suffix. And the ones derived through conversion many times did not present any equivalents at all. Lithuanian action nouns formed with suffixes have mostly equivalents of English action nouns with -ing suffix, or result nouns derived through conversion. And Lithuanian action nouns derived through conversion presented mostly equivalents of English result nouns derived through conversion and simplex nouns. Lithuanian result nouns with suffixes presented equivalents of English simplex nouns and result nouns derived through conversion, and Lithuanian paradigmatic derivatives presented English simplex nouns as equivalents in translation. It appeared that action nouns are a more frequent phenomenon in the Lithuanian language, than in English, and the result nouns appeared to be more frequent in English. Also, the results revealed that the more productive the action/result noun formation type is, the more possible equivalents it presents in the translation
