A INFLUÊNCIA DA FILOSOFIA POLÍTICA DE NICOLAU MAQUIAVEL NO POPULISMO DO GOVERNO DO PRESIDENTE GETÚLIO VARGAS

    Get PDF

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES)Transposable elements (TEs) are mobile genetic elements present in almost all eukaryotic genomes. Due to their typical patterns of repetition, discovery, and characterization, they demand analysis by various bioinformatics software. Probably, as a result of the need for a complex analysis, many genomes publicly available do not have these elements annotated yet. In this study, a de novo and homology-based identification of TEs and microsatellites was performed using genomic data from 3 palm species: Elaeis oleifera (American oil palm, v.1, Embrapa, unpublished; v.8, Malaysian Palm Oil Board [MPOB], public), Elaeis guineensis (African oil palm, v. 5, MPOB, public), and Phoenix dactylifera (date palm). The estimated total coverage of TEs was 50.96% (523 572 kb) and 42.31% (593 463 kb), 39.41% (605 015 kb), and 33.67% (187 361 kb), respectively. A total of 155 726 microsatellite loci were identified in the genomes of oil and date palms. This is the first detailed description of repeats in the genomes of oil and date palms. A relatively high diversity and abundance of TEs were found in the genomes, opening a range of further opportunities for applied research in these genera. The development of molecular markers (mainly simple sequence repeat), which may be immediately applied in breeding programs of those species to support the selection of superior genotypes and to enhance knowledge of the genetic structure of the breeding and natural populations, is the most notable opportunity.11JAFF by the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES)Foundation within the Ministry of Education in Brazil via the Graduate Program in Plant Biotechnology, Federal University of Lavras (UFLA)Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES

Interactions Between Anaerobic Oil Bacteria – Monitoring by Classic and Molecular Microbiology

The biogenic production of sulphide is one of the main problems in oil and gas industry, causing corrosion in storage tanks and pipes. This is possible by the injection of seawater during the secondary oil recovery. In the present work high levels of sulphide and acid producers were detected in water/oil samples from several sites from the petroleum industry. In a further stage, a broader range of microbial cells were detected, and finally, metagenomic analysis confirmed the presence of a diversity of microbes, indicating the complexity of the consortium in the production of sulphide, and based on the activity of acid producing cells and associated species

Introduction: Apical periodontitis is an inflammatory disease of the periradicular tissues caused by microbial(re)contamination of the root canal system. Due to its direct relationship to the quality of endodontictreatment, it is extremely important to carry out longitudinal and cross-sectional studies, following-uptreatments carried out in universities. Aim: To evaluate the success rate of endodontic treatments performedby undergraduate students of the University of Southern Santa Catarina - UNISUL, Pedra Branca, betweenAugust 2015 and July 2017.Materials and Methods: One hundred twenty-four patients with endodontic treatment were contacted. Ofthese, only 27 attended for treatment follow-up, adding up to a total of 32 treatments analyzed. All teeth wereclinically and radiographically evaluated, and the potential indicators related to endodontic treatment successor failure were analyzed. The frequencies of each criterion were calculated, and the data analyzed using theChi-Square test (α = 5%).Results: 9 cases (28.13%) were considered failure, either because they were associated with symptoms or becausethere was a periapical alteration. In addition, 88.88% of the failure cases had temporary restorative material.Association was observed only between the number of root canals and symptoms (P = 0.049). Two of the 3treated teeth with multiple root canals showed symptoms at the follow-up. The endodontic success rate was71.87%.Conclusion: The success rate of the 32 endodontic treatments performed by undergraduate students fromUNISUL was 71.87%

EFFECT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON THE DEMOGRAPHICS OF CURITIBA PRISMATICA (D. LEGRAND) SALYWON & LANDRUM: AN ENDEMIC ARAUCARIA FOREST SPECIES

With the occurrence of intensive climate change, there is a risk of irreversible damage to global biodiversity, resulting in reduction of geographical distribution and species extinction. The objective of this study was to evaluate the current distribution and the future projection of the areas of occurrence of Curitiba prismatica. Current occurrence data accessed in the SpeciesLink database and scientific studies were collected, which were correlated with the bioclimatic data available in WorldClim, for the current and future periods (2070), in the optimistic (RCP 4.5) and pessimistic scenarios (RCP 8.5) of the HadGEM2-ES model. In the current scenario, a species presents suitability restricted to mixed ombrophilous forest (MOF), with limited distribution to the center-south of the state of Paraná and the north of the state of Santa Catarina. For the future, there were reductions in the areas of climatic susceptibility for the species, both in the optimistic and pessimistic scenarios. In the RCP 4.5 scenario, the predictive reduction was found in the midwest region of Paraná, unlike the RCP 8.5 scenario, which showed a low reduction in this region. Therefore, in the future, areas with high suitability will tend to contract, but restricted to the regions of the first and second plateau of Paraná and the north of Santa Catarina. In this sense, these areas are indicated for commercial planting and in situ and ex situ conservation of the species

Optimization of Results for Cracked Teeth Using CAD-CAM System: A Case Series

Different restorative techniques have been proposed for the treatment of posterior teeth affected by cracked tooth syndrome (CTS). However, the literature is scarce in protocols of how to solve CTS using ceramic restorations made by computer aided design–computer aided manufacturing (CAD-CAM) system. CAD-CAM provides a fast and efficient restorative treatment usually in a single visit, reducing the risk of contamination and micro-infiltration of the cracked line. The objective of this work was to describe 3 clinical cases of cracked teeth, which presented vertical fracture lines in different directions and extension through the pulp, restored by CAD-CAM system, with 5-year follow-up. Patients with short-term spontaneous masticatory pain, cold sensibility and restored teeth without cuspal coverage were selected. Digital radiographs (DR) were taken to confirm the pulp and periapical status. Periodontal probing depth, sensitivity, percussion, and occlusion tests were performed. The fracture lines with their direction and extension were identified under dental optical microscope (DOM). The treatment plan was performed in two stages: immediate treatment to stabilize the tooth and minimize pain, and final restorative treatment by CAD-CAM system to stabilize the crack. Patients were between the ages of 37 and 45 years. Most of the studied teeth presented extensive restorations without cuspal coverage. The presence of occlusal interference, in lateral movement, was a constant finding. Endodontic treatment was performed in cases of irreversible pulpitis or pulpal necrosis. In all three cases, cavity preparation was performed for full coverage restorations, as the fracture lines extended in several directions, requiring a re-enforcement of the cervical region of the teeth in question. The survival rate of the reported cases was 100% with 5-year clinical and radiographic follow-up, suggesting that CAD-CAM system may be a promising alternative treatment in the management of CTS, improving tooth longevity. Keywords: CAD-CAM; Cracked Teeth; Cracked Tooth Syndrome; Incomplete Fracture; Prognosi

High-affinity transport, cyanide-resistant respiration, and ethanol production under aerobiosis underlying efficient high glycerol consumption by Wickerhamomyces anomalus

Wickerhamomyces anomalus strain LBCM1105 was originally isolated from the wort of cachaça (the Brazilian fermented sugarcane juice-derived Brazilian spirit) and has been shown to grow exceptionally well at high amounts of glycerol. This paramount residue from the biodiesel industry is a promising cheap carbon source for yeast biotechnology. The assessment of the physiological traits underlying the W. anomalus glycerol consumption ability in opposition to Saccharomyces cerevisiae is presented. A new WaStl1 concentrative glycerol-H+ symporter with twice the affinity of S. cerevisiae was identified. As in this yeast, WaSTL1 is repressed by glucose and derepressed/induced by glycerol but much more highly expressed. Moreover, LBCM1105 aerobically growing on glycerol was found to produce ethanol, providing a redox escape to compensate the redox imbalance at the level of cyanide-resistant respiration (CRR) and glycerol 3P shuttle. This work is critical for understanding the utilization of glycerol by non-Saccharomyces yeasts being indispensable to consider their industrial application feeding on biodiesel residue. This work was supported by grants from Fundacao de Capacitacao de Pessoal de Nivel Superior from the Ministry of Education-CAPES/Brazil (PNPD 2755/2011; PCF-PVE 021/2012), from FEDER through POFC-COMPETE and by FCT through strategic funding (UID/BIA/04050/2013), from Universidade Federal de Ouro Preto, and a research fellowship from Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Cientifico e Tecnologico-CNPq (Brazil) Process 304815/2012 (research grant) and Process 305135/2015-5 (research fellowship to R.L.B.).
