Three-by-three bound entanglement with general unextendible product bases
We discuss the subject of Unextendible Product Bases with the orthogonality
condition dropped and we prove that the lowest rank non-separable
positive-partial-transpose states, i.e. states of rank 4 in 3 x 3 systems are
always locally equivalent to a projection onto the orthogonal complement of a
linear subspace spanned by an orthogonal Unextendible Product Basis. The
product vectors in the kernels of the states belong to a non-zero measure
subset of all general Unextendible Product Bases, nevertheless they can always
be locally transformed to the orthogonal form. This fully confirms the
surprising numerical results recently reported by Leinaas et al. Parts of the
paper rely heavily on the use of Bezout's Theorem from algebraic geometry.Comment: 36 page
Spanish Artifacts from Santa Elena
This volume contains Parts I and 2 of a three-part presentation of the artifacts relating to the sixteenth century Spanish occupation of the colonial capital of La Florida at Santa Elena, located on Parris Island, South Carolina from 1566 to 1587. Part 1, by Stanley South, with contributions by Eugene Lyon, Richard Polhemus, William Radisch and Carl Steen, comprises the Spanish non-ceramic artifacts. Part 2, by Russell Skowronek, Richard Johnson and Stanley South, examines the Spanish imported ceramics. Part 3, incomplete at this writing, by Chester Depratter, deals with the Spanish-contemporary Indian pottery. This third part will be published as a separate volume at a later date. The entire artifact inventory of the artifacts from Santa Elena is presented in this three-part volume, being those recovered from a number of expeditions to the site between 1979 and 1985. For comparative use the appendices contain the tabulated artifact inventory resulting from these expeditions. Synthesizing tables from these data are presented in the text. This information should prove useful to students of sixteenth century Spanish colonial history, particularly historical archaeologists involved in excavating sites of this period wherever they may be.https://scholarcommons.sc.edu/archanth_anthro_studies/1008/thumbnail.jp
Classical Spin Gravitational Compton Scattering
We introduce a novel bootstrap method for classical Compton scattering
amplitudes involving two massless gluon/graviton particles and two
arbitrary-spin infinite-mass particles in a heavy-mass effective field theory
context. Using a suitable ansatz, we deduce new and explicit classical spin
results for gluon four and five-point infinite mass processes that exhibit
exponentiated three-point factorizations to all orders in spin and feature no
spurious poles. We discuss the generalization of our bootstrap to higher
multiplicities and summarize future potential applications.Comment: To be published in JHE
Positive maps, positive polynomials and entanglement witnesses
We link the study of positive quantum maps, block positive operators, and
entanglement witnesses with problems related to multivariate polynomials. For
instance, we show how indecomposable block positive operators relate to
biquadratic forms that are not sums of squares. Although the general problem of
describing the set of positive maps remains open, in some particular cases we
solve the corresponding polynomial inequalities and obtain explicit conditions
for positivity.Comment: 17 pages, 1 figur
From Porciones to Colonias: Curriculum Development in K-12 Education--Methodology and Program Development
The 2012 National Endowment for the Humanities- sponsored “From Porciones to Colonias: Inserting the “Hispanic” in a Hispanic Serving Institution through Curriculum Innovation” brought together faculty at the largest Hispanic Serving Institution in Texas, the University of Texas-Pan American (UTPA), and public school teachers to create place-based curriculum. Using the natural landscape and cultural history of one of the most dynamic borderlands in the world as the main classroom laboratory, faculty housed in the CHAPS program (Community Historical Archaeology Project with Schools) challenged elementary, middle, and high school teachers in the sciences, social sciences and humanities to create in their students historically literate citizens who are aware of their local cultural and natural history. The following briefly encapsulates the conducted activities
Optimal entanglement witnesses from generalized reduction and Robertson maps
We provide a generalization of the reduction and Robertson positive maps in
matrix algebras. They give rise to a new class of optimal entanglement
witnesses. Their structural physical approximation is analyzed. As a byproduct
we provide a new examples of PPT (Positive Partial Transpose) entangled states.Comment: 14 page
The role of radiotherapy in the treatment of malignant melanoma
Malignant Melanoma is recognised by several radiotherapists to be radioresistant. Many radiobiological data and well-known differences in the morphology of melanoma suggest that this claim may be false. The data obtained are presented in the paper in a historical overview. Principles of the radiotherapy of melanoma are discussed. The results of palliative irradiation of 27 patients, treated at the GreatPoland Cancer Center in the years 1985–1989 are discussed

Loss of CCR7 Expression on NK Cells Is Associated with a NK Cell-Like Phenotype and Correlates with HIV Viral Load
NK cells are pivotal sentinels of the innate immune system and distinct subpopulations in peripheral blood have been described. A number of studies addressed HIV-induced alterations of NK cell phenotype and functionality mainly focusing on and NK cells. However, the impact of HIV-infection on NK cells is less well understood. Here we report a rise of NK cells in HIV-infected individuals, which lack CCR7-expression and strongly correlate with HIV viral load. NK cells were characterized by increased cytolytic potential, higher activation states and a more differentiated phenotype. These cells thus acquired a number of features of NK cells. Furthermore, NK cells from HIV patients exhibited higher degranulation levels compared to uninfected individuals. Thus, chronic HIV-infection is associated with a phenotypic and functional shift of NK cells, which provides a novel aspect of HIV-associated pathogenesis within the NK cell compartment
Materiał i metodyPrzedstawiono wyniki leczenia napromienianiem 57 chorych z czerniakiem złośliwym skóry leczonych w Wielkopolskim Centrum Onkologii w latach 1970–1003. Omówiono dane kliniczne histopatologiczne i wyniki przeżyć 5 letnich.Wyniki: Pomimo dużego zaawansowania i leczenia często z założeniem paliatywnym uzyskano 40,4% 5-letnich przeżyć. Uzyskanie remisji całkowitej zmian leczonych napromienianiem pozwoliło na wzrost odsetka przeżyć 5 letnich.Wnioski1.Paliatywna radioterapia umożliwia przeżycie 5-letnie części chorych.2.Nie ma wskazań do uznania czerniaka złośliwego jako nowotwór promieniooporny
79. The effectivness of pain treatment with Strontium 89 in patient with osseous metastases
Aimof this study was to assessment of 89 Sr therapy as pain treatment modality in the group of patients with multiple bone metastases.Material and methodsFrom January 2000 to October 2000 in our center were treated 41 patients; 17 – prostate cancer and 24 – breast cancer patients. All patients had applied only one dose of 150 MBq of 89 Sr. Before and follow-up each patient has been evaluated; performance status according to the Karnofsky Scale and paro intensity according the VAS scale. We did not observe any clinical important haematological side effects. The ionisation dosemetric monitoring of the sources and the radioactive refuse were recorded. The radioactive refuse was storage in special container when the activity decreased to the background.ResultsWe noted relief of paro as follow:-“complete” 18 of 41 patients (8-prostate cancer, 10 – breast cancer),-“partial” 12 of 41 patients (3- prostate cancer, 9- breast cancer),-“no effect” 11 of 41 patients (6-prostate cancer, 5- breast cancer).ConclusionsWe suggest that therapy of painful multiple bone metastases with application of 89 Sr is effective nd safe
