ABSTRAKSI Sihombing, Simon Amando Capricorus, 551811136868 N, 2023, “Pemuatan dan Perawatan Container Reffer di KM. Dobonsolo selama pelayaran Surabaya - Jayapura”, Program Diploma IV, Program Studi Nautika, Politeknik Ilmu Pelayaran Semarang, Pembimbing I: Capt. Anugrah Nur Prasetyo, M.Si.,M.Mar, Pembimbing II: Ariyanti Fitrianingsih, S.T., M.T.

Hydrogen peroxide production during experimental protein glycation

AbstractThe accumulation of hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) during incubations of protein with glucose (experimental glycation) has previously been too low for direct measurement although it is suggested to be the precursor of protein-damaging hydroxylating agents. We have thus developed a simple H2O2-measuring technique which relies upon the rapid peroxide-mediated oxidation of Fe2+ to Fe3+ (catalysed by sorbitol) under acidic conditions followed by reaction of the latter cation with the dye, xylenol orange. We have used the method to demonstrate that incubation mixtures of protein and glucose generates nanomolar levels of hydrogen peroxide in the presence of protein under physiological conditions of pH and temperature

Future Missions to the Giant Planets that Can Advance Atmospheric Science Objectives:Space Science Reviews

    Get PDF
Other papers in this special issue have discussed the diversity of planetary atmospheres and some of the key science questions for giant planet atmospheres to be addressed in the future. There are crucial measurements that can only be made by orbiters of giant planets and probes dropped into their atmospheres. To help the community be more effective developers of missions and users of data products, we summarize how NASA and ESA categorize their planetary space missions, and the restrictions and requirements placed on each category. We then discuss the atmospheric goals to be addressed by currently approved giant-planet missions as well as missions likely to be considered in the next few years, such as a joint NASA/ESA Ice Giant orbiter with atmospheric probe. Our focus is on interplanetary spacecraft, but we acknowledge the crucial role to be played by ground-based and near-Earth telescopes, as well as theoretical and laboratory work. © 2020, Springer Nature B.V

A Coverage Criterion for Spaced Seeds and its Applications to Support Vector Machine String Kernels and k-Mer Distances

    Get PDF
Spaced seeds have been recently shown to not only detect more alignments, but also to give a more accurate measure of phylogenetic distances (Boden et al., 2013, Horwege et al., 2014, Leimeister et al., 2014), and to provide a lower misclassification rate when used with Support Vector Machines (SVMs) (On-odera and Shibuya, 2013), We confirm by independent experiments these two results, and propose in this article to use a coverage criterion (Benson and Mak, 2008, Martin, 2013, Martin and No{\'e}, 2014), to measure the seed efficiency in both cases in order to design better seed patterns. We show first how this coverage criterion can be directly measured by a full automaton-based approach. We then illustrate how this criterion performs when compared with two other criteria frequently used, namely the single-hit and multiple-hit criteria, through correlation coefficients with the correct classification/the true distance. At the end, for alignment-free distances, we propose an extension by adopting the coverage criterion, show how it performs, and indicate how it can be efficiently computed.Comment: http://online.liebertpub.com/doi/abs/10.1089/cmb.2014.017

    The Mythology of Game Theory

    Get PDF
Non-cooperative game theory is at its heart a theory of cognition, specifically a theory of how decisions are made. Game theory\u27s leverage is that we can design different payoffs, settings, player arrays, action possibilities, and information structures, and that these differences lead to different strategies, outcomes, and equilibria. It is well-known that, in experimental settings, people do not adopt the predicted strategies, outcomes, and equilibria. The standard response to this mismatch of prediction and observation is to add various psychological axioms to the game-theoretic framework. Regardless of the differing specific proposals and results, game theory uniformly makes certain cognitive assumptions that seem rarely to be acknowledged, much less interrogated. Indeed, it is not widely understood that game theory is essentially a cognitive theory. Here, we interrogate those cognitive assumptions. We do more than reject specific predictions from specific games. More broadly, we reject the underlying cognitive model implicitly assumed by game theory

Discovery and Observations of ASASSN-13db, an EX Lupi-Type Accretion Event on a Low-Mass T Tauri Star

    Get PDF
We discuss ASASSN-13db, an EX Lupi-type ("EXor") accretion event on the young stellar object (YSO) SDSS J051011.01-032826.2 (hereafter SDSSJ0510) discovered by the All-Sky Automated Survey for SuperNovae (ASAS-SN). Using archival photometric data of SDSSJ0510 we construct a pre-outburst spectral energy distribution (SED) and find that it is consistent with a low-mass class II YSO near the Orion star forming region (d420d \sim 420 pc). We present follow-up photometric and spectroscopic observations of the source after the ΔV\Delta V \sim-5.4 magnitude outburst that began in September 2013 and ended in early 2014. These data indicate an increase in temperature and luminosity consistent with an accretion rate of 107\sim10^{-7} M\rm{M}_\odot yr1^{-1}, three or more orders of magnitude greater than in quiescence. Spectroscopic observations show a forest of narrow emission lines dominated by neutral metallic lines from Fe I and some low-ionization lines. The properties of ASASSN-13db are similar to those of the EXor prototype EX Lupi during its strongest observed outburst in late 2008.Comment: 14 pages, 4 figures, 1 table. Supergravity Null Scissors and Super-Crosses

In this paper we construct the supergravity solutions for the orthogonally intersecting null scissors and the fluxed D-strings. We name the latter as the super-crosses according to their shape. It turns out that the smeared solutions are U-dual related to the intersecting (p,q)(p,q)-strings. Their open string properties are also studied. As a by-product, we clarify the supersymmetry conditions of D2-D2 pairs with most generic fluxes.Comment: 16 pages, 1 figure;v2. minor comment revised;v3. references added, final to JHE

Morse theory of the moment map for representations of quivers

    Get PDF
The results of this paper concern the Morse theory of the norm-square of the moment map on the space of representations of a quiver. We show that the gradient flow of this function converges, and that the Morse stratification induced by the gradient flow co-incides with the Harder-Narasimhan stratification from algebraic geometry. Moreover, the limit of the gradient flow is isomorphic to the graded object of the Harder-Narasimhan-Jordan-H\"older filtration associated to the initial conditions for the flow. With a view towards applications to Nakajima quiver varieties we construct explicit local co-ordinates around the Morse strata and (under a technical hypothesis on the stability parameter) describe the negative normal space to the critical sets. Finally, we observe that the usual Kirwan surjectivity theorems in rational cohomology and integral K-theory carry over to this non-compact setting, and that these theorems generalize to certain equivariant contexts.Comment: 48 pages, small revisions from previous version based on referee's comments. Comparing neonatal outcomes in women with preeclampsia and those with normal pregnancy

    Get PDF
Background: Preeclampsia has remained an important public health problem in the developing world where it is associated with a five-fold increase in perinatal morbidity and mortality. Objective: We set out to compare neonatal outcomes between women with preeclampsia and those with normal pregnancy. We also sought to evaluate factors associated with poor outcome in the neonates. Materials and Methods: This was a prospective cohort study that enrolled 90 women (45 with preeclampsia and 45 with normal pregnancy) after 20 weeks gestation. Maternal socio-demographic and clinical information was obtained at enrolment and delivery using questionnaire. Neonatalanthropometric and physiologic data was obtained at delivery and used for classifying the birth weight according to the WHO classification. APGAR score was used to evaluate the presence of birth asphyxia. We defined poor outcome as the presence of at least one of low birth weight,  prematurity, birth asphyxia and need for admission. SPSS version 25 was used in all analysis. Significance testing was set at p=0.05. Results: The women with preeclampsia were significantly heavier at booking (BMI 29.0±6.9 Kg/ m2 vs 25.0±5.2. p=0.005), have higher mean booking systolic blood pressure (122.±22.6 mmHg vs 111.5±12.7mmHg, p=0.003) and diastolic blood pressure ( 7 9 . 8 ± 1 4 . 3mm Hgvs 68.8±9.0mmHg, p<0.001). Neonates of women with preeclampsia were significantly more premature ( meangestational age = 36 . 8 ± 3 . 2 week svs 38.7±2.0weeks, p=0.001) and lighter (mean birth weight =2,529±817.5g vs 3,079.2±527.4g, p<0.001). Overall, 22 (49.4%) of the neonates of women with preeclampsiahad significantly poor outcome compared with 12(27.4%) of the neonates of women with normal pregnancy (p=0.01). Univariate logistic analysis showed only being a male neonate, maternal preeclampsia and admission in index pregnancy were significantly associated with poor outcome.  Multivariable logistic regression showed only being a male neonate to be 3 times more likely to have a poor outcome (Wald=5.34. OR=3.2, p=0.02) Conclusions: Intrauterine exposure to preeclampsia is associated with poor neonatal outcomes especially in males Key words: infant outcome, preeclampsia, Nigeri
