The theories of empowerment are discussed and the results are analyzed in respect to the theories which shows that doctors are more empowered than the nurses

    Electroencephalographic interbrain synchronization in children with disabilities, their parents, and neurologic music therapists

    : As with typically developing children, children with cerebral palsy and autism spectrum disorder develop important socio-emotional rapport with their parents and healthcare providers. However, the neural mechanisms underlying these relationships have been less studied. By simultaneously measuring the brain activity of multiple individuals, interbrain synchronization could serve as a neurophysiological marker of social-emotional responses. Music evokes emotional and physiological responses and enhances social cohesion. These characteristics of music have fostered its deployment as a therapeutic medium in clinical settings. Therefore, this study investigated two aspects of interbrain synchronization, namely, its phase and directionality, in child-parent (CP) and child-therapist (CT) dyads during music and storytelling sessions (as a comparison). A total of 17 participants (seven cerebral palsy or autism spectrum disorder children [aged 12-18 years], their parents, and three neurologic music therapists) completed this study, comprising seven CP and seven CT dyads. Each music therapist worked with two or three children. We found that session type, dyadic relationship, frequency band, and brain region were significantly related to the degree of interbrain synchronization and its directionality. Particularly, music sessions and CP dyads were associated with higher interbrain synchronization and stronger directionality. Delta (.5-4 Hz) range showed the highest phase locking value in both CP and CT dyads in frontal brain regions. It appears that synchronization is directed predominantly from parent to child, that is, parents and music therapists' brain activity tended to influence a child's. Our findings encourage further research into neural synchrony in children with disabilities, especially in musical contexts, and its implications for social and emotional development

    The transformation of education during the corona pandemic: exploring the perspective of the private university students in Bangladesh

    Purpose – In 2020, the education system was preliminary halted by the COVID-19 crisis and went through radical improvisation, and online-based distance learning was the only plausible initiative to continue educational activities ensuring health guidelines properly. However, in reality, such desperate measure in case of a lower-middle-income developing nation lacking proper structural capabilities raised some issues and concerns for both pupils and mentors, and this study aims to explore the practice of online-based distance learning in private universities of Bangladesh and the challenges associated with it. Design/methodology/approach – This exploratory research is qualitative in nature. A total number of 89 undergraduate level university students from different private universities were divided into two main clusters and interviewed in depth. Findings – The findings of this paper revealed that common developing country syndromes like improper technological infrastructure development, limitation to devices or internet accessibility and financial hindrances can disrupt the harmony of the online learning experience. Also, the lack of tech literacy has created a huge tension and psychological inertia among both the teachers and the students. Social implications – The coronavirus pandemic event, with its dreadful influence, is creating immense mental pressures for students to cope well with the online learning system. Comprehending the underlying challenges affiliated with online-based distance learning and enabling faculties or respected personnel with training and development programs to handle impediments better way, this learning initiative can ensure the best outcomes. Originality/value – The significance of this study lies in comprehending the feasibility of online-based education regarding lower-middle-income developing nation context and the realism of such learning process's acceptability considering its actual effectiveness

    A modular fuzzy expert system for chemotherapy drug dose scheduling

    This study presents a modular Fuzzy Expert System (FES) for chemotherapy drug dose scheduling. The computational model considers the patient’s Body Surface Area (BSA) and experts’ opinions to calculate chemo doses following the clinical practice. A proper balance between reducing cancerous cells and toxic side effects is required for effective drug scheduling. Still, in many cases, traditional clinical approaches fail to determine appropriate therapeutical doses that balance all restrictions. In our proposed system, FES-1 is developed to determine primary drug doses based on experts’ opinions and competing treatment objectives. To adjust the dose, FES-2 is developed based on clinical practices, the patient’s BSA, and experts’ opinions. The final chemotherapy drug dose schedule is generated by combining the outputs of FES-1 and FES-2, which is the proposed modular FES. A growth model is used in this work to observe response due to administration of chemotherapy drug doses and to determine the following doses by considering cancer patients’ three weight patterns (increasing, decreasing, and random order). Extensive simulation results and comparative assessment with other current computational chemotherapy drug scheduling models validate the effectiveness and the superiority of the model proposed in this study over the other methods reported in relevant studies
