Remote Sensing and Control of Phase Qubits
We demonstrate a remote sensing design of phase qubits by separating the
control and readout circuits from the qubit loop. This design improves
measurement reliability because the control readout chip can be fabricated
using more robust materials and can be reused to test different qubit chips.
Typical qubit measurements such as Rabi oscillations, spectroscopy, and
excited-state energy relaxation are presented.Comment: 3 pages, 4 figure

Microparticles in the Development and Improvement of Pharmaceutical Formulations: An Analysis of In Vitro and In Vivo Studies
: Microparticulate systems such as microparticles, microspheres, microcapsules or any particle in a micrometer scale (usually of 1-1000 µm) are widely used as drug delivery systems, because they offer higher therapeutic and diagnostic performance compared to conventional drug delivery forms. These systems can be manufactured with many raw materials, especially polymers, most of which have been effective in improving the physicochemical properties and biological activities of active compounds. This review will focus on the in vivo and in vitro application in the last decade (2012 to 2022) of different active pharmaceutical ingredients microencapsulated in polymeric or lipid matrices, the main formulation factors (excipients and techniques) and mostly their biological activities, with the aim of introducing and discussing the potential applicability of microparticulate systems in the pharmaceutical field
Precipitation influence on the runoff of a small-watershed in the Federal District, Brazil
The knowledge of surface runoff is important for adequate hydraulic structures designing and for soil water conservation. The total volume of water from surface runoff is dependent of local edaphic, climatic and physiographic conditions. The objective of this study was to find out the relative importance of rainfall amount (P) and intensity (IP) and antecedent precipitation (PA) on total runoff (Es) provided by the "Capetinga" stream watershed, located in Brazil mid-west savannah region. It was analyzed watershed data for a six years period beginning on July 1st, 1996, and ending on June 30th, 2002. It was considered only Es events greater or equal to 0.1 mm, measured with a stream gage located at the watershed outlet. A set of 187 P, PA, IP and Es events were submitted to a linear multiple regression analysis. The results showed that the independent variable P, PA and IP had two and three-factor interactions, influencing the dependent variable Es. Regression coefficients of absolute values evidenced that IP was more important than PA to estimate de independent variable Es. The average total runoff coefficient value suggests that the watershed has a good condition of soil water infiltration
Estolides Synthesis Catalyzed by Immobilized Lipases
Estolides are vegetable-oil-based lubricants obtained from oleic acid or any source of hydroxy fatty acids. In this work, the estolides synthesis from oleic acid and methyl ricinoleate (biodiesel from castor oil), using immobilized commercial lipases (Novozym 435, Lipozyme RM-IM, and Lipozyme TL-IM) in a solvent-free medium was investigated. Acid value was used to monitor the reaction progress by determining the consumption of acid present in the medium. Novozym 435 showed the best performance. Water removal improved the conversion. Novozym 435 was more active at atmospheric pressure. Novozym 435 was reused four times with conversion reaching 15% after the fourth reaction at 80°C. Estolides produced under the reaction conditions used in this work presented good properties, such as, low temperature properties as pour point (−24°C), viscosity (23.9 cSt at 40°C and 5.2 cSt at 100°C), and viscosity index (153)
Sub-micrometer epitaxial Josephson junctions for quantum circuits
We present a fabrication scheme and testing results for epitaxial
sub-micrometer Josephson junctions. The junctions are made using a
high-temperature (1170 K) "via process" yielding junctions as small as 0.8 mu m
in diameter by use of optical lithography. Sapphire (Al2O3) tunnel-barriers are
grown on an epitaxial Re/Ti multilayer base-electrode. We have fabricated
devices with both Re and Al top electrodes. While room-temperature (295 K)
resistance versus area data are favorable for both types of top electrodes, the
low-temperature (50 mK) data show that junctions with the Al top electrode have
a much higher subgap resistance. The microwave loss properties of the junctions
have been measured by use of superconducting Josephson junction qubits. The
results show that high subgap resistance correlates to improved qubit
performance
Subglottic stenosis as a clinical manifestation of Wegener's granulomatosis in adolescents: report of a case and review of literature
Wegener's Granulomatosis is a well-characterized systemic vasculitis and necrotising granulomatous inflammation of the upper, lower respiratory tracts and the kidneys. The initial manifestations of the disease usually occur in patients over than twenty years old. The otolaryngologic symptoms like rhinorrhea, recurrent sinusitis and epistaxis are commonly present in early course of the disease. It seems that subglottic stenosis is correlated to Wegener's granumatosis in adolescents. We describe a case of a patient that developed subglottic stenosis associated with Wegener's granulomatosis in childhood during the course of the disease.

A linguagem literária do New Journalism em The Duke in His Domain
