Guaranteed Cost Finite-Time Control for Positive Switched Linear Systems with Time-Varying Delays

    Get PDF
This paper considers the guaranteed cost finite-time control for positive switched linear systems with time-varying delays. The definition of guaranteed cost finite-time boundedness is firstly given. Then, by using the mode-dependent average dwell time approach, a static output feedback law and a state feedback control law are constructed, respectively, and sufficient conditions are obtained to guarantee that the closed-loop system is guaranteed cost finite-time boundedness. Such conditions can be easily solved by linear programming. Finally, an example is given to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed method

Position Soft-Sensing of Direct-Driven Hydraulic System Based on Back Propagation Neural Network

Automated operations are widely used in harsh environments, in which position information is essential. Although sensors can be equipped to obtain high-accuracy position information, they are quite expensive and unsuitable for harsh environment applications. Therefore, a position soft-sensing model based on a back propagation (BP) neural network is proposed for direct-driven hydraulics (DDH) to protect against harsh environmental conditions. The proposed model obtains a position by integrating velocity computed from the BP neural network, which trains the nonlinear relationship between multi-input (speed of the electric motor and pressures in two chambers of the cylinder) and single-output (the cylinder's velocity). First, the model of a standalone crane with DDH was established and verified by experiment. Second, the data from batch simulation with the verified model was used for training and testing the BP neural network in the soft-sensing model. Finally, position estimation with a typical cycle was performed using the created position soft-sensing model. Compared with the experimental data, the maximum soft-sensing position error was about 7 mm, and the error rate was within +/- 2.5%. Furthermore, position estimations were carried out with the proposed soft-sensing model under differing working conditions and the errors were within 4 mm, but the periodically cumulative error was observed. Hence, a reference point is proposed to minimize the accumulative error, for example, a point at the middle of the cylinder. Therefore, the work can be applied to acquire position information to facilitate automated operation of machines equipped with DDH.publishedVersionPeer reviewe

The double inhibition of PDK1 and STAT3-Y705 prevents liver metastasis in colorectal cancer.

As a key glycolysis enzyme, the significance of pyruvate dehydrogenase kinase 1 (PDK1) in the development of colorectal cancer (CRC) remains unknown. This study revealed that the prognosis of CRC patients with high levels of PDK1 was poor, and PDK1 knockdown significantly reduced liver metastasis of CRC in both nude mice and immune competent BALB/C mice. When combined with cryptotanshinone (CPT), an inhibitor of STAT3-p-Y705, the liver metastasis was further inhibited. PDK1 knockdown obviously increased reactive oxygen species level in anoikis conditions and subsequently resulted in an elevated anoikis, but the combination of PDK1 knockdown and CPT showed a reduced effect on anoikis. Based on this discrepancy, the adherence ability of CRC cells to matrix protein fibronectin was further detected. It showed that PDK1 knockdown significantly decreased the adherence of CRC cells to fibronectin when combined with CPT. These results suggest that inhibition of PDK1 can decrease the surviving CRC cells in blood circulation via up-regulation of anoikis, and inhibition of STAT3-p-Y705 can prevent it to settle down on the liver premetastatic niche, which ultimately reduces liver metastasis

Quantifying the effects of plant density on soybean lodging resistance and growth dynamics in maize-soybean strip intercropping

Shading-induced soybean stem lodging is a prevalent concern in the maize (Zea mays L.)-soybean (Glycine max L. Merr.) strip intercropping system, leading to a substantial decline in yield. Nevertheless, the associations between soybean growth, stem lodging, and yield formation in this scenario remain unclear. To investigate this, the logistic and beta growth models were utilized to analyze the growth process of soybean organs (stems, leaves, branches, and pods) and the accumulation of carbohydrates (lignin, cellulose, and sucrose) at three planting densities (8.5, 10, and 12.5 plants m−2) in both strip intercropping and skip strip monoculture systems. The results indicate that shading stress caused by maize in the intercropping system reduced lignin and cellulose accumulation in soybean stems, thus decelerating soybean organ growth compared to monoculture. Furthermore, intercropped soybean at higher planting density (PD3) exhibited a 28% reduction in the maximum dry matter growth rate (cm) and a 11% decrease in the time taken to reach the maximum dry matter growth rate (te) compared to the lower planting density (PD1). Additionally, a 29% decrease in the maximum accumulation rate (cmax) of sucrose, lignin, and cellulose was observed, along with a 13% decrease in the continuous accumulation time (tc) of these carbohydrates in intercropped soybean at PD3. Interspecific and intraspecific shading stress led to a preferential allocation of assimilates into soybean stems, enhancing plant height during the initial stage, while at later stages, a greater proportion of sucrose was allocated to leaves. Consequently, this hindered the conversion of sucrose into lignin and cellulose within the stems, ultimately resulting in a reduction in the lodging resistance index (LRI). Overall, this study provides valuable insights into the effects of shading stress on soybean growth and yield. It also emphasizes how optimizing planting density in intercropping systems can effectively alleviate shading stress and enhance crop productivity

Long Non-Coding RNA XLOC_006753 Promotes the Development of Multidrug Resistance in Gastric Cancer Cells Through the PI3K/AKT/mTOR Signaling Pathway

Background/Aims: The development of multidrug resistance (MDR), which results in disease recurrence and metastasis, is a crucial obstacle to successful chemotherapy for patients with gastric cancer (GC). Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been found to play various roles in cancer. This study aimed to investigate the effect of XLOC_006753 on the development of MDR in GC cells. Methods: The expression levels of XLOC_006753 in GC patients and MDR GC cell lines (SGC-7901/5-FU and SGC-7901/DDP cell line) were assessed by qRT-PCR. Statistical analyses were conducted to determine the relationship between XLOC_006753 expression and clinical features and to assess the prognostic value of XLOC_006753 for overall survival and progression-free survival. Then, a CCK-8 assay was used to detect cell proliferation ability and chemosensitivity. Flow cytometry was used to detect cell cycle and cell apoptosis. A wound-healing assay and transwell assay were used to detect cell migration. The expression of markers for MDR, G1/S transition, epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) and PI3K/ AKT/mTOR signaling pathway were examined by western blot. Results: XLOC_006753 was highly expressed in GC patients and MDR GC cell lines (SGC-7901/5-FU and SGC-7901/DDP cell lines), and its high expression was positively associated with metastasis, TNM stage, tumor size, and poor survival in GC patients. Moreover, XLOC_006753 was an independent prognostic biomarker of overall survival and progression-free survival for gastric cancer patients. Knocking down XLOC_006753 in the two MDR GC cell lines significantly inhibited cell proliferation, cell viability, cell cycle G1/S transition, and migration. XLOC_006753 knockdown also promoted apoptosis. Furthermore, western blots showed that XLOC_006753 knockdown decreased some markers of MDR, G1/S transition, and EMT expression, while increasing caspase9 expression and inhibiting the PI3K/AKT/mTOR signaling pathway in SGC-7901/5-FU and SGC-7901/DDP cells. Conclusion: High expression of XLOC_006753 promoted the development of MDR, which was activated by the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway in GC cells

China currently faces a water resource sustainability problem which is likely to worsen into the future. The Chinese government is attempting to address this problem through legislative action, but faces severe challenges in delivering its high ambitions. The key challenges revolve around the need to balance water availability with the need to feed a growing population under a changing climate and its ambitions for increased economic development. This is further complicated by the complex and multi-layered government departments, often with overlapping jurisdictions, which are not always aligned in their policy implementation and delivery mechanisms. There remain opportunities for China to make further progress and this paper reports on the outcomes of a science-to-policy roundtable meeting involving scientists and policy-makers in China. It identifies, in an holistic manner, new opportunities for additional considerations for policy implementation, continued and new research requirements to ensure evidence-based policies are designed and implemented and identifies the needs and opportunities to effectively monitor their effectiveness. Other countries around the world can benefit from assessing this case study in China
