PSYCHOLOGISTS IN TRAINING: DEVELOPING LGBTQ+ CULTURAL COMPETENCE IN TRAINEES

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) individuals search for counseling services at higher rates compared to their heterosexual peers. Unfortunately, LGBTQ+ people also report negative therapeutic experiences that are evident in higher dissatisfaction rates with counseling services. Perceived heterosexist bias, homophobia, and therapists’ general lack of understanding and/or adequate training of gender and sexual diversity are some of the reasons why LGBTQ+ individuals may be wary of seeking medical or mental health services or why they forgo accessing services altogether (Dillon et al., 2004). Even though there is an emerging body of research stating a clear need to provide tailored, culturally appropriate, and LGBTQ+ affirmative psychological interventions to LGBTQ+ individuals, few studies have investigated the impact of therapist training in LGBTQ+-affirmative psychotherapy (Pepping et al., 2018). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the Pride Healing Center (PHC) training program (a trauma-informed specialty clinic for the LGBTQ+ community at Long Island University-Post). This study used a comparison group design to explore if therapists who have undergone more hours of training in LGBTQ+- affirmative psychotherapy and had more clinical hours with LGBTQ+ clients report higher self-efficacy and changes in self-reported counselor competency and self-efficacy pre- and post-training. The results revealed significant increases in self-reported skills and knowledge between pre-test and post-test as a result of the cultural competency training that includes information about minority stress, unique barriers, and mental health needs of the LGBTQ+ population. The finding did not reveal any significant changes in counselor’s perceived competency when assessing their clinical hours

The purpose of the article. The article is devoted to the study of two versions of the musical text of the concert«Ne otverzhi mene vo vremia starosti» by M. Berezovsky. The manuscripts of the late XVIII century, in which this concert has a different version of musical text, is being studied, is absolutely unknown today. It is concluded that this version is the original author's version of the concert «Ne otverzhi.» The methodology of the research is an integrated approach, and it is based on the use of analytical and comparative methods. The scientific novelty of the work is to find out the tendency to correct the musical texts of choral works of Berezovsky during the preparation for printing in the XIХ and early ХХ centuries, and in attracting a wide range of manuscript sources for the purpose of establishing the original ver- sion of the concert «Ne otverzhi,» which has no further editing. Conclusions. It is noted that the prospects for studying this topic are to find out the reasons and methods of later editing of the original author's text in all choral works of Bere- zovsky, which were published during the XIX - early XX centuries, as well as in the publication of original versions that were created by the author and sung during his life. The second fundamental difference between the manuscript and published versions of the Concert is associated with the use of accidentals, which in some cases are added, and in oth- ers – removed. The addition of accidentals occurs in the overwhelming majority of cases in the chords of the subdomi- nant group used in S – D idioms, which leads to their transformation into a double dominant, and also while transfer from the tonic to subdominant in minor keys, which creates the effect of a short-term transition to a new tonal center. Conse- quently, M. Berezovsky's harmonic innovations, referred to by many modern researchers, are the result of a later editori- al revision

A theoretical outline of the concept of "emotional intelligence" is provided in the article (EQ). Analyzed are the viewpoints of several local and international psychologists on the definition, history, and structure of EQ. The New Ukrainian School (NUS) places a high premium on studying emotional intelligence and potential avenues for its growth. The interplay of the "emotional - intellectual" notions is chosen as the foundation of EQ research. Advanced emotional intelligence has both beneficial and detrimental traits that are highlighted. For EQ studies, a methodological toolset is created and presented. Some potential paths for its ontogenetic development under suitable circumstances are supported. For the intricate consistent work on EQ development, an algorithm has been developed.A theoretical outline of the concept of "emotional intelligence" is provided in the article (EQ). NMR approach for monitoring post-mortem changes in Atlantic salmon fillets stored at 0 and 4°C

    Get PDF
High resolution NMR technique has been used to monitor post-mortem changes in salmon (Salmo salar) fillets upon storage at 4 and 0 °C. Thirty-one different fish metabolites influencing freshness and taste properties have been unequivocally assigned by NMR using either available standard compounds or ad hoc acquired 2D 1H–1H TOCSY and 1H–13С HSQC spectra. The monitored fish metabolites include amino acids, dipeptides, sugars, vitamins, biogenic amines, as well as different products of the ATP degradation. The detection and monitoring of biogenic amines by NMR, upon fish storage, is information of interest for consumers, since some of these compounds are toxic. The data from this study shows that NMR spectroscopy also provides the amount of all metabolites necessary for the calculation of the K-index used to express fish freshness. A good correlation was found between the K-index increase and the formation of the undesired biogenic amines. The metabolite concentrations and the K-index found in this work were compared and found coherent with literature data. The performed study reveals the strengths and the suitability of the NMR approach to monitor different biochemical processes occurring during fish storage and qualitatively and quantitatively characterise fish metabolites determining fish quality
