2011 Summer.Includes bibliographical references. The purpose of this research is to identify the areas where Building Information Modeling (BIM) software is currently adding value to General Contractors working in the state of Colorado. The scope of this study is limited to the top Local and National General Contractors in the state of Colorado generating over $100 million a year in revenue as reported by McGraw Hill 2009 Top Colorado Contractors. An exploratory study was completed using industry experts as well as academic research to identify areas where BIM adds value to general contractors. The findings indicate that the majority of the sample group is using BIM on their projects to a certain degree, with very little negative value in any category. There were slight differences when comparing the national and local contractors with regards to the area of added value through the use of BIM, but overall they were very consistent. A conclusion was drawn that while these firms are very interested in BIM and want to continue to grow it within their firms, there are still many areas where BIM has yet to be fully utilized to add value within both the national and local companies

Introduction: In this study, two cases that demonstrate the importance of bedside echocardiography and hands-off telemedicine technology for diagnosis and intervention in patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are discussed. Case Presentation: We report two cases of cardiac emergency associated with COVID-19. Case 1 is a 50-year-old female patient with chronic hypertension and chronic renal failure. Case 2 is a 64-year-old female with atrial fibrillation and recent stroke. Both were admitted to an isolation intensive care unit that was designated specifically to patients with COVID-19. Conclusions: During admission, both patients had sudden deterioration characterized by oxygen desaturation and hypotension necessitating inotropic support. As a result, for both patients, bedside echocardiography was performed by the attending inten-sivist. Echocardiographic findings showed cardiac tamponade and acute pulmonary embolism, respectively, which were confirmed by a cardiologist through telemedicine technology. Proper emergency management was initiated, and both patients recovered well. Limited bedside transthoracic echocardiography had a front-line impact on the treatment and outcome of the two patients with COVID-19. By implementing telemedicine technology, the lives of two patients were saved, demonstrating the significance of telemedicine in isolation intensive care units in the developing countries during the COVID-19 pandemic. © 2021, Author(s)

A new strategy and system for the ex vivo ovary perfusion and cryopreservation: An innovation

Children and young adults, who suffer from cancer, receive gonadotoxic therapy, which destroys their fertile abilities after survival. Ovarian cryopreservation and transplantation provide the promising solution to this problem, where the ovary can be removed before the gonadotoxic therapy and reimplanted after patient's survival, where the ovary is to be cryopreserved during the period of the therapy. However, cryopreservation of the whole ovary is still facing great obstacles, namely the ischemic reperfusion injury and the defective cryopreservation related to the defective ability to universally deliver the cryopreservation/warming solutions through the ovarian vascular bed. Meanwhile, the currently applied technique of ovarian tissue cryopreservation provides limited follicular recovery because many follicles are lost until the establishment of revascularization post-transplantation. To solve the problems, an innovative system has been developed to insure immediate and universal delivery of the cryopreservation/warming solutions to the graft, in addition to keeping the graft under continuous perfusion before and after cryopreservation, minimizing any chance for microthrombi formation or ischemia-reperfusion. This innovative system can be applied in the following surgical and clinical interventions: 1) Allogeneic ovarian transplantation; 2) Preservation of fertility after systemic chemotherapy or bone marrow transplantation in young females, where the ovaries could be removed before the therapy and exposed to the adequate cryopreservation provided by the system till re-implantation after the patient's survival; 3) The system is also suitable for the corresponding applications on the testicles
