Abstract: The purpose of this study was to determine family resilience based on the belief system in families with Javanese and Sundanese cultural backgrounds. The method used in this study is a qualitative phenomenological method. Phenomenological studies are used to understand phenomena at the level of subjective reality. Respondents in this study were five families with Javanese ethnic background domiciled in Kebumen and Banyumas regencies, Central Java and three families with Sundanese cultural background domiciled in Pangandaran and Sumedang regencies, West Java. The data collection method using in-depth interviews based on the concept of family resilience from Walsh describes three aspects of the belief system. The research data was analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which consists of three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions with the help of qualitative data analysis software, namely Nvivo 12 Plus. The results show that families with Javanese and Sundanese backgrounds have a belief system in facing life’s trials which are manifested in the ability to interpret life’s difficulties, have a positive outlook, and the value of religiosity. The results of this study can be used as part of an assessment in schools and information on family resilience can be used as a counselor’s consideration in implementing family counseling and multicultural counseling services.

Model of Bamboo Strip Notch Reinforced Concrete Beams On The Flexural Capacity

    No full text
There are many various species of bamboo trees in Indonesia, one of which is Petung bamboo (Dendrocalamus Asper). Bamboo is one of the potential material as a substitute for steel reinforcement. This paper will discuss the model of bamboo reinforcement to increase the flexural capacity of concrete beams. The use of the notch is expected to increase the bonding effects and minimize slip effects. This study used laboratory experimental method. Bamboo strips are processed and formed with the notches of the form V with the distance between the notch are 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 cm. Static loading is done with third point loading system (ASTM C78). The test results show that, the average flexural capacity on the specimens of concrete beams with Petung bamboo strip notch as reinforcement on the distance between notch 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 cm respectively are 0.536, 0.528, 0.432, 0.403, 0.424, 0.366 tm

Promotionalism, motivationalism and reasons to perform physically impossible actions

In this paper I grant the Humean premise that some reasons for action are grounded in the desires of the agents whose reasons they are. I then consider the question of the relation between the reasons and the desires that ground them. According to promotionalism, a desire that p grounds a reason to φ insofar as A’s φing helps promote p. According to motivationalism a desire that p grounds a reason to φ insofar as it explains why, in certain circumstances, A would be motivated to φ. I then give an argument favouring motivationalism, namely that promotionalism entails that agents have reasons to perform physically impossible actions, whereas motivationalism entails that there are no such reasons. Although this is a version of the ‘Too Many Reasons’ objection to promotionalism, I show that existing responses to that problem do not transfer to the case of reasons to perform physically impossible actions. In the penultimate section I consider and reject some objections to motivationalism made by promotionalists. The conclusion is that Humeans about reasons for action should prefer motivationalism

Luminescence properties of mechanically milled and laser irradiated ZnO

The effect of mechanical milling on the luminescence properties of ZnO microcrystalline samples has been studied by means of cathodoluminescence in a scanning electron microscope. The samples consisted of pressed pellets of commercially available ZnO powder which were ball milled to investigate the possibility of nanocrystalline ZnO formation. Changes observed in the relative intensities of the characteristic ultraviolet and green band of ZnO are discussed in terms of defects generated during milling. The effect of nano- and picosecond pulsed laser irradiation on the particle size and luminescence of the milled samples has been also investigated. This work has been supported by MCYT (project MAT2000- 2119) and by EU projects HPMT-CT-2000-00064 and HPMT-CT-2001-00215.
