Trinity Restoration Inc.: Southside Cultural Center Economic Impact Study
Economic development has shifted from location-oriented business models towards a more all-encompassing model that recognizes the advancement of human capital or intellectual property as continuously increasing in value. This microcosmic characteristic of development extends to aid in the growth of society as a whole. The Arts and Culture attract a demographic of inspired and motivated people to the area. It results in the development of the society surrounding art venues. The general population will always seek out entertainment, by installing a venue of artistic expression in South Providence that will motivate the community and propel development. This phenomena has been proven, as denoted through the historical evaluation of artistic venues across America that have generated economic growth in their respective communities
Theodor Hellbrügge: 85 years of age – Ad multos transannos, sanos, fortunatos et beatos
We honor Theo HellbrĂĽgge's acclaimed endeavors in the rehabilitation, or rather the prehabilitation of handicapped children. So far, he has focused on obvious handicaps, and we trust that he will include concern for everybody's silent handicaps in the future by screening for abnormal variability inside the physiological range. Therein, we introduce cis- and trans-years, components of transdisciplinary spectra that are novel for biology and also in part for physics. These components have periods, respectively, shorter and longer than the calendar year, with a counterpart in magnetoperiodism. Transyears characterize indices of geomagnetic activity and the solar wind's speed and proton density. They are detected, alone or together with circannuals, in physiology as well as in pathology, as illustrated for sudden cardiac death and myocardial infarction, a finding calling for similar studies in sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS). As transyears can beat with circannuals, and depend on local factors, their systematic mapping in space and time by transdisciplinary chronomics may serve a better understanding of their putative influence upon the circadian system. Longitudinal monitoring of blood pressure and heart rate detects chronome alterations underlying cardiovascular disease risk, such as that of myocardial infarction and sudden cardiac death. The challenge is to intervene in a timely fashion, preferably at birth, an opportunity for pediatricians in Theo HellbrĂĽgge's footsteps
Analysis of the historical structural change in the German lignite mining area of Lusatia (case study)
This case study examined the structural change in Lusatia caused by the system change from a centrally planned economy to a market economy in the period 1990-2015. It analysed the structural change process and the structural policies implemented as a reaction to this process with the objective to make this knowledge available for future structural change processes in other (coal) regions by deploying various qualitative and quantitative methods of empirical social and economic research. A discourse analysis helped to recognise who supported which structural policy approaches and why - and thus gives indications of the possible relevance of experiences for other regions
Temperature suppression of STM-induced desorption of hydrogen on Si(100) surfaces
The temperature dependence of hydrogen (H) desorption from Si(100)
H-terminated surfaces by a scanning tunneling microscope (STM) is reported for
negative sample bias. It is found that the STM induced H desorption rate ()
decreases several orders of magnitude when the substrate temperature is
increased from 300 K to 610 K. This is most noticeable at a bias voltage of -7
V where decreases by a factor of ~200 for a temperature change of 80 K,
whilst it only decreases by a factor of ~3 at -5 V upon the same temperature
change. The experimental data can be explained by desorption due to vibrational
heating by inelastic scattering via a hole resonance. This theory predicts a
weak suppression of desorption with increasing temperature due to a decreasing
vibrational lifetime, and a strong bias dependent suppression due to a
temperature dependent lifetime of the hole resonance.Comment: 5 pages, RevTeX, epsf files. Accepted for surface science letter
Biot-JKD model: simulation of 1D transient poroelastic waves with fractional derivatives
A time-domain numerical modeling of Biot poroelastic waves is presented. The
viscous dissipation occurring in the pores is described using the dynamic
permeability model developed by Johnson-Koplik-Dashen (JKD). Some of the
coefficients in the Biot-JKD model are proportional to the square root of the
frequency: in the time-domain, these coefficients introduce order 1/2 shifted
fractional derivatives involving a convolution product. Based on a diffusive
representation, the convolution kernel is replaced by a finite number of memory
variables that satisfy local-in-time ordinary differential equations. Thanks to
the dispersion relation, the coefficients in the diffusive representation are
obtained by performing an optimization procedure in the frequency range of
interest. A splitting strategy is then applied numerically: the propagative
part of Biot-JKD equations is discretized using a fourth-order ADER scheme on a
Cartesian grid, whereas the diffusive part is solved exactly. Comparisons with
analytical solutions show the efficiency and the accuracy of this approach.Comment: arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:1210.036

The Role of ACAID and CD4+CD25+FOXP3+ Regulatory T Cells on CTL Function Against MHC Alloantigens
Purpose: Anterior chamber associated immune deviation (ACAID) is an antigen-specific form of peripheral immune tolerance that is induced to exogenous antigens placed in the ocular anterior chamber, which leads to a suppression in delayed-type hypersensitivity (DTH). Considerable work has been done on ACAID induction to major histocompatibility (MHC) alloantigens. However, its role on cytotoxic T lymphocyte (CTL) activity is currently unknown. Methods: C57BL/6 (H-2b) mice received an intracameral (IC) inoculation with BALB/c (H-2d) splenocytes. Splenic CD4+ and CD8+ T cell populations were characterized by flow cytometry and proliferation assays during induction and expression phases of ACAID. Percentages of CD4+CD25+FoxP3+ T regulatory cells (Treg) were also followed. Lastly, CTL function was measured at various time points during ACAID expression, and Treg were added to identify potential alterations in CTL function. Results: CD4+ and CD8+ T cell percentages and proliferation increased in the spleen during ACAID induction but then sharply decreased in response to an allospecific immunization. Expression of ACAID also exhibited a significant drop in CTL function. However, while Treg expansion was observed, these cells did not directly mediate the CTL inhibition. Conclusions: ACAID mediates an inhibition of CTL function against MHC alloantigens. Furthermore, we found that ACAID induction leads to the expansion and proliferation of CD4+ and CD8+ T cells while ACAID expression is associated with a diminishment in T cell percentages due to proliferation impairment. Lastly, Treg also expand during ACAID induction. However, our data suggest that Treg do not directly inhibit CTL activity
