    DEVELOPEMENT AND VALIDATION OF ANALYTICAL METHOD FOR SIMULTANEOUS ESTIMATION OF CILNIDIPINE AND OLMESARTAN MEDOXOMIL IN BULK AND TABLET DOSAGE FORM BY RP-HPLC

    An economical, precise, rapid and accurate RP HPLC method has been developed for the simultaneous estimation of Olmesartan Medoxomil and Cilnidipine in bulk and tablet dosage form. Separation was carried out on Jasco HPLC system equipped with HiQ sil C18 column (250 × 4.6 mm i.d.) and PDA detector using Methanol: 40 mM Potassium dihydrogen ortho phosphate buffer (90:10 v/v) as the mobile phase.Ortho-phosphoric acid was used to adjust pH to 3.0, and detection was carried out at 254 nm. Results were linear in the range of 5-30 μg/ml for Cilnidipine and 10-50 μg/ml for Olmesartan Medoxomil respectively. The method was successfully applied for the analysis of drugs in pharmaceutical formulation. Results of the analysis were validated statistically and by recovery studies

    Observations on a shoal of the Javanese Cownose Ray Rhinoptera javanica landed at New Ferry Wharf, Mumbai

    Landing of shoals of Javanese Cownose Ray, Rhinoptera javanica, is not observed normally. Shoals of these fishes are generally neither sighted nor captured. On 9th December 2005, a shoal consisting of 28 specimens was caught by a single trawler based at New Ferry Wharf, which is very rare and probably the first recorded from this region. Similar shoals were reported earlier on two occasions from the Gulf of Mannar. The size range of the fishes in the shoal ranged from 98 to 99 cm in disc width for males and between 100 and 104 cm for females. The catch is very significant since all the females caught were pregnant with fully-grown embryos without yolk and the males were all mature with calcified claspers. The total weight of the shoal was 425 Kg and the catch fetched a price of Rs. 400/piece. The embryo also fetched a good price at Rs. 60/piece. Occurrence and capture of such shoals are interesting as they throw more light on the abundance, size at maturity and breeding season

    Study to evaluate the effect of Naradiya Laxmivilas Rasa and Goghruta Nasya in Vertigo (Bhrama)

    Vertigo is a disturbance of sense of equilibrium and movements, where person feels that either his surroundings are going around him, or he himself is rotating. It varies from mild imbalance to severe vertigo accompanied by nausea and vomiting. In Ayurveda it can be compared to Bhrama which manifests as consequence of aggravation of Vata and Pitta Doshas along with Raja Guna resulting in spinning of head. An open randomized clinical trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of Naradiya Laxmi Vilas Rasa and Goghruta Nasya in vertigo w.s.r to Bhrama for duration of 2 months. 100 patients were selected and clinical evaluation was done by subjective and objective parameters. It was noted that there was significant relief in symptoms of Vertigo. So, it can be concluded that Naradiya Laxmi Vilas Rasa and Goghruta Nasya has significant effect on Vertigo (Bhrama)

    A Novel Approach for Eye Tracking using Driver Fatigue Monitoring

    System describes a real-time online trial product driver-fatigue monitor or driver tiredness is captured. It means to capture the current state or mode of tiredness of driver whether the driver is in sleeping state or in wakening state. It uses remotely located charge-coupled-device cameras able to with active infrared illumination to acquire video images of the driver. Various cues that typically stated the level of attentiveness of a person that how an person is attentive are removed or take out in real time and systematic combined to infer the tiredness level of the driver. The some cues employed stated eyelid movement, steady movement, head movement, and facial expression. This is developed to model human fatigue and to know about fatigue based on the visual cues obtained. The simultaneous use of multiple optical cues and their methodical combination yields a much more robust and accurate fatigue categorization than using a single visual cue. This system was valid as real-life fatigue conditions with human subjects of different cultural backgrounds, genders, and ages as with or without glasses, and under different illumination conditions. It was found to be sensibly robust, reliable, and accurate in fatigue categorization

    Evaluation of suitable sites for mud crab farming in Ratnagiri District of Maharashtra, India

    The State of Maharashtra has vast stretches of estuaries, creeks and mangrove swamps, which offers great potential for aquaculture, particularly for mud crab farming. In view of the natural resources and market potential for mud crab, the Department of Forests, Government of Maharashtra plans to promote mud crab farming through a novel approach, which aims at providing livelihood support to the local communities utilizing the mangrove wetlands; thereby the local communities also shoulder the responsibility of conservation of mangroves. In this backdrop, a study was conducted to identify the suitable sites for sustainable mud crab culture, in GIS environment, based on various physical and environmental criteria including topography, soil types, landuse systems, vegetation, water quality, water availability, salinity, risks of flooding, infrastructure, seed resources and availability, market and support services. The brackishwater stretches of Anjarle, Kelshi, Aade, Velas and Ansure in the Ratnagiri district of Maharashtra were studied, and all study stations had patchy to thick mangrove vegetation. The major mangrove species encountered were: Avicennia marina, Avicennia officinalis, Sonneratia caseolaris, Rhizophora mucronata and Acanthus ilicifolius. The pH of water was near-neutral to alkaline, whereas dissolved oxygen levels were found to be within the ideal range. The salinity of the tidal creeks ranged from 7.24 ppt (Velas) to 35.9 ppt (Ansure) which generally varies with the tide. The ammonia levels which ranged from 0 (Aade and Ansure) to 0.5 ppm (Kelshi), falls within the safe levels for Available online at: www.mbai.org.in doi: 10.6024/jmbai.2017.59.2.2014-05 aquaculture. The sediment pH ranged from 6.2 to 8.32. The organic carbon levels in sediment ranged from 0.27 to 2.94% indicating medium to high productive nature of sediment. Samples of mud crab collected from the study areas were processed for screening for WSSV infection. All samples gave Negative results in primary as well as nested PCRs, indicating the absence of WSSV in the wild mud crab population. Integrating the analysis result along with supporting spatial data with the aid of GIS and Remote Sensing techniques, a total of 10.063 ha have been evaluated as suitable areas for mud crab farming along the brackishwater stretches of Anjarle (1.91 ha), Aade (2.069 ha), Kelshi (1.77 ha), Velas (0.538 ha) and Ansure (3.776 ha)

    This paper presents the PVA-BDA project (Processing, Visualization and Analysis in ParallelEnvironment of the BDA Data) that has been developed for processing of solar images that will be captured bythe BDA (Brazilian Decimetric Array), a radio telescope under development at the National Institute for SpaceResearch (INPE). In a joint effort between the Department of Computer Science at Federal University of SãoCarlos (DC/UFSCar), the Astrophysics Division (DAS) and Associated Laboratory for Computing and AppliedMathematics (LAC) at INPE, a high performance parallel system is being developed with capacity to supportrealistic applications, involving a reasonable amount of parallel processing, in order to carry out the processing,visualization and analysis of solar images captured by BDA, in real time. The aim is to create the conditions forstarting a study of the solar weather forecast. The forecast of solar explosions are important as they may causeserious perturbations in terrestrial communication systems. An application for 3D reconstruction of X-raytomographic images of the solar atmosphere was developed at DC/UFSCar. Due to the need for the 3Dreconstruction of solar magnetic structures, in real-time, this application was implemented to execute in a parallelmachine using DSPs

    Evidence of a new shell closed nucleus governing slow quasi-fission

    Mass distributions of fission fragments arising from the slow quasi-fission process have been derived by comparing the measured distributions with the theoretical distributions based on compound nuclear fission model for several reactions. The mass-distributions corresponding to quasi-fission events for all the systems show the following common features: (1) they are double peaked with fixed peak-centroids and nearly same width at different incident energies, (2) the yield of quasi-fission events decreases with the increasing projectile energy, and (3) peak corresponding to lighter fragment is observed at A \sim 96 for all the systems, whereas the peak of heavier fragment increases linearly with the mass of the di-nuclear system. All the above observations are quite similar to the ones observed in well known asymmetric fission of actinides, thus providing clear evidences of shell effect in slow quasi-fission where the lighter fragment is possibly nuclei around 96^{96}Zr, a new doubly magic nucleus. This finding has great implications in the study of nuclear reactions, structure and particularly in super-heavy element synthesis where quasi-fission is synonymous

    Twenty four species of Pandalid shrimps reported from the Indian waters, of which six genera (Chlorotocella, Chlorotocus, Chlorocurtis, Dorodotes, Heterocarpoides and Stylopandalus) are represented by single species each. The genera, Plesionika and Heterocarpus are represented by eleven and seven species respectively. Plesionika adensameri (Balss, 1914) a deep-sea shrimp hitherto unreported from Indian waters is recorded from west coast of India. Information on some biological aspects of few Pandalid shrimps from Indian waters is also reported in the present paper

The concept of the Internet of Things(IoT)emergedasaholisticproposaltoenableanecosystemofvaried,heterogeneous networked objects and devices to speak to and interact with each other. To make the IoT ecosystem a reality, it is necessary to understand the electronic components, communication protocols, real-time analysis techniques, and the location of the objects and devices. The IoT ecosystem and the Digital Earth (DE) jointly form interrelated infrastructures for addressing today’s pressing issues and complex challenges. In this chapter, we explore the synergies and frictions in establishing an efficient and permanent collaboration between the two infrastructures, in order to adequately address multidisciplinary and increasingly complex real-world problems. Although there are still some pending issues, the identified synergies generate optimism for a true collaboration between the Internet of Things and the Digital Earth
