The aim was to characterize the lifestyles of students at a higher education institution, in the dimensions of physical activity and nutrition, and to propose intervention strategies based on the results obtained. Exploratory, descriptive, transversal, and quantitative study. Data were collected through the Fantastic Lifestyle questionnaire (EVF) distributed to students of a Higher Education Institution in the interior of Portugal, via email, registered and analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences, version 22.0. The results obtained in the Physical Activity and Nutrition dimensions of the EVF stand out. A total of 455 students participated in the study, 42.0% reported that they walked, almost always, for at least 30 minutes a day, 14.1% did not practice any physical activity; 56.7% said they sometimes consume vegetables and fruit while 21.1% do it daily. On the other hand, the majority (80.9%) regularly consume some high-calorie foods, 19.4% are pre-obese. It was allowed to assess the situation in order to carry out a planning and implementation of strategies aimed at promoting the practice of regular physical activity and careful eating in a greater number of students, with specific interventions for those who do not practice any physical exercise and those who already have pre-obesity. Leptomeningeal disease (LMD) represents a devastating complication of advanced breast cancer (ABC), with survival of <5 months with multimodal treatment. The role of endocrine therapy (ET), due to its favorable toxicity profile and first-line indication in luminal ABC, appears promising in the setting of LMD, where symptom stabilization and quality-of-life preservation are the main goals; however, evidenced-based data are lacking. We conducted a thorough review of published evidence, aiming to investigate the role of ET in LMD treatment in luminal ABC. Twenty-one of 342 articles, evaluating 1302 patients, met inclusion criteria. ET use was rarely reported. New targeted agents show CNS activity. Research is lacking on the role of ET and targeted agents in BC-LMD treatment

It does so by studying the behaviours, perceptions and attitudes of health professionals that facilitate or hinder the implementation of new practices in health or by studying strategies that promote the adoption of behaviours that have been tested and shown to be effective (Bhattacharyya & Zwarenstein, 2009). Implementation research helped become recognized that acceptability should be highly considered when designing, evaluating and implementing healthcare interventions (Sekhon et al., 2017).This dissertation is organized by two articles. On a first phase, the aim was to develop and investigate the psychometric properties of a measure that assesses acceptability of health professionals to transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) in treating postpartum depression. On a second phase, we applied this instrument to a sample of health professionals and evaluated their acceptability pre and post-intervention, in which the intervention consisted of a psychoeducational video about tDCS. Also, we explored how diverse sociodemographic variables, including information about the professional status, clinical history, previous knowledge and experience with tDCS, and treatment preference of participants would influence their acceptability. The ACCEPTpro-tDCS revealed to be a valid and reliable instrument of acceptability measurement. We designed it foreseeing future adaptations to other languages, other psychiatric disorders, and other innovative treatments. The acceptability study with health professionals revealed that increasing knowledge on tDCS increased acceptability towards it as a treatment option for postpartum depression. Our findings have important implications to the assessment of innovative treatments in health and provide orientations for future studies about tDCS’ implementation

Cervical cancer prevention is based on primary prevention with vaccines againstHuman Papillomavirus (HPV) and secondary prevention by screening with High‐Risk‐HPV (Hr‐HPV) detection. Since 2017, cervical cancer screening in women aged25−60 years has been performed in Portugal using Hr‐HPV detection, followed bycytology in Hr‐HPV‐positive cases. Herein we report the prevalence of Hr‐HPVgenotypes and cytological abnormalities among 462 401 women (mean age:43.73 ± 10.79; median age: 45; range: 24−66 years) that participated in the RegionalCervical Cancer Screening Program of the Northern Region of Portugal, performedbetween August 2016 and December 2021. Overall, we describe a prevalence rateof 12.50% for Hr‐HPV varying from 20.76% at age 25% to 8.32% at age 64. The fivemost common Hr‐HPV genotypes identified were HPV‐68 (16.09%), HPV‐31(15.30%), HPV‐51 (12.96%), HPV‐16 (11.06%), and HPV‐39 (11.01%). Theprevalence of Hr‐HPV included in the nonavalent vaccine (HPV‐9valent) was55.00% ranging from 47.78% to 59.18% across different age groups.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

A protocol update for the Selenium Treatment and Chagasic Cardiomyopathy (STCC) trial

Abstract Several studies evaluating clinical forms of chronic Chagas disease show that about one-third of patients present cardiac involvement. Heart failure, sudden death and cardioembolic stroke are the main mechanisms of death in Chagas heart disease. The impact of specific etiologic treatment on the prognosis of patients with chronic Chagas heart disease is very limited regardless of the presence or absence of heart failure. Patients with symptomatic Chagas heart disease present serum selenium (Se) levels lower than patients without Chagas heart disease. Moreover, Se supplementation in animal models showed promising results. The aim of this trial is to estimate the effect of Se treatment on prevention of heart disease progression in patients with Chagas cardiomyopathy. However, we had to introduce some protocol modifications in order to keep trial feasibility, as follows: the primary outcome was restricted to left ventricular ejection fraction as a continuous variable, excluding disease progression; the follow-up period was decreased from 5 years to 1 year, an adjustment that might increase the participation rate of our study; the superior age limit was increased from 65 to 75 years; and diabetes mellitus was no longer considered an exclusion criterion. All of these protocol modifications were extensively debated by the research team enrolled in the design, recruitment and conduction of the clinical trial to guarantee a high scientific quality.
