Influences of Labour Participation Among Persons With Disabilities: A Systematic Review and Best Evidence Synthesis
A systematic literature review was conducted to assess the individual, organisation, societal, and legal influences of labour participation among individuals with a disability. Methods: Nine databases were searched, for peer-reviewed studies of individual, organisation, societal, and legal influences among disabled populations published between 1990 and 2010.
Results: Of a total of 809 papers initially selected, only 46 studies were deemed to be of sufficient quality to be included in the review. Conclusions: Numerous studies have examined labour participation among persons with physical disabilities, some among persons with chronic disabilities, and few among persons with mental disabilities. Strong evidence was found for individual and organisation influences of labour participation among persons with physical disabilities in particular pain, catastrophising, job strain, and support. Only individual influences provided strong evidence among persons with chronic disabilities and no influences provided strong evidence among those with mental disabilities. The results are presented along with methodological weaknesses and future recommendations
Reversible DNA micro-patterning using the fluorous effect
We describe a new method for the immobilisation of DNA into defined patterns with sub-micron resolution, using the fluorous effect. The method is fully reversible via a simple solvent wash, allowing the patterning, regeneration and re-patterning of surfaces with no degradation in binding efficiency following multiple removal/attachment cycles of different DNA sequences
Incorporating Financial Statement Information to Improve Forecasts of Corporate Taxable Income
We contribute to the research on the information content of earnings as it applies to the forecasting of economic activity across reporting models. We examine whether publicly available financial statement information is incrementally useful in forecasting confidentially reported taxable income. More precise firm-level taxable income forecasts can improve policymakers’ modeling of the tax system and their ability to analyze the effect of proposed changes in corporate tax law. When aggregated, improved micro-forecasts can also yield more accurate macro-forecasts of corporate taxable income, a significant component of the federal budget. We find that financial statement information improves firm-level estimates of future taxable income by providing more timely information. We also document the usefulness of the deferred tax valuation allowance in improving taxable income estimates for loss firms. Our evidence suggests public financial statement information complements proprietary data to improve estimates of future taxable income for budgetary and policy use
Two Jovian-Mass Planets in Earthlike Orbits
We report the discovery of two new planets: a 1.94 M_Jup planet in a 1.8-year
orbit of HD 5319, and a 2.51 M_Jup planet in a 1.1-year orbit of HD 75898. The
measured eccentricities are 0.12 for HD 5319 b and 0.10 for HD 75898 b, and
Markov Chain Monte Carlo simulations based on derived orbital parameters
indicate that the radial velocities of both stars are consistent with circular
planet orbits. With low eccentricity and 1 < a < 2 AU, our new planets have
orbits similar to terrestrial planets in the solar system. The radial velocity
residuals of both stars have significant trends, likely arising from substellar

Cosmological Constraints from the SDSS maxBCG Cluster Catalog
We use the abundance and weak lensing mass measurements of the SDSS maxBCG
cluster catalog to simultaneously constrain cosmology and the richness--mass
relation of the clusters. Assuming a flat \LambdaCDM cosmology, we find
\sigma_8(\Omega_m/0.25)^{0.41} = 0.832\pm 0.033 after marginalization over all
systematics. In common with previous studies, our error budget is dominated by
systematic uncertainties, the primary two being the absolute mass scale of the
weak lensing masses of the maxBCG clusters, and uncertainty in the scatter of
the richness--mass relation. Our constraints are fully consistent with the WMAP
five-year data, and in a joint analysis we find \sigma_8=0.807\pm 0.020 and
\Omega_m=0.265\pm 0.016, an improvement of nearly a factor of two relative to
WMAP5 alone. Our results are also in excellent agreement with and comparable in
precision to the latest cosmological constraints from X-ray cluster abundances.
The remarkable consistency among these results demonstrates that cluster
abundance constraints are not only tight but also robust, and highlight the
power of optically-selected cluster samples to produce precision constraints on
cosmological parameters.Comment: comments welcom
The Loneliest Galaxies in the Universe: A GAMA and GalaxyZoo Study on Void Galaxy Morphology
The large-scale structure (LSS) of the Universe is comprised of galaxy
filaments, tendrils, and voids. The majority of the Universe's volume is taken
up by these voids, which exist as underdense, but not empty, regions. The
galaxies found inside these voids are expected to be some of the most isolated
objects in the Universe. This study, using the Galaxy and Mass Assembly (GAMA)
and Galaxy Zoo surveys, aims to investigate basic physical properties and
morphology of void galaxies versus field (filament and tendril) galaxies. We
use void galaxies with stellar masses of , and
this sample is split by identifying two redshift-limited regions, 0 < z <
0.075, and, . To find comparable objects in the sample of
field galaxies from GAMA and Galaxy Zoo, we identify "twins" of void galaxies
as field galaxies within 0.05 dex and 0.15 dex of M and specific star
formation rate. We determine the statistical significance of our results using
the Kolmogorov-Smirnov (KS) test. We see that void galaxies, in contrast with
field galaxies, seem to be disk-dominated and have predominantly round bulges
(with > 50 percent of the Galaxy Zoo citizen scientists agreeing that bulges

Five Intermediate-Period Planets from the N2K Sample
We report the detection of five Jovian mass planets orbiting high metallicity
stars. Four of these stars were first observed as part of the N2K program and
exhibited low RMS velocity scatter after three consecutive observations.
However, follow-up observations over the last three years now reveal the
presence of longer period planets with orbital periods ranging from 21 days to
a few years. HD 11506 is a G0V star with a planet of \msini = 4.74 \mjup in a
3.85 year orbit. HD 17156 is a G0V star with a 3.12 \mjup planet in a 21.2 day
orbit. The eccentricity of this orbit is 0.67, one of the highest known for a
planet with a relatively short period. The orbital period for this planet
places it in a region of parameter space where relatively few planets have been
detected. HD 125612 is a G3V star with a planet of \msini = 3.5 \mjup in a 1.4
year orbit. HD 170469 is a G5IV star with a planet of \msini = 0.67 \mjup in a
3.13 year orbit. HD 231701 is an F8V star with planet of 1.08 \mjup in a 142
day orbit. All of these stars have supersolar metallicity. Three of the five
stars were observed photometrically but showed no evidence of brightness
variability. A transit search conducted for HD 17156 was negative but covered

Inhibition of Toll-Like Receptor 4 Signaling Mitigates Microvascular Loss but Not Fibrosis in a Model of Ischemic Acute Kidney Injury
The development of chronic kidney disease (CKD) following an episode of acute kidney injury (AKI) is an increasingly recognized clinical problem. Inhibition of toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4) protects renal function in animal models of AKI and has become a viable therapeutic strategy in AKI. However, the impact of TLR4 inhibition on the chronic sequelae of AKI is unknown. Consequently, we examined the chronic effects of TLR4 inhibition in a model of ischemic AKI. Mice with a TLR4-deletion on a C57BL/6 background and wild-type (WT) background control mice (C57BL/6) were subjected to bilateral renal artery clamping for 19 min and reperfusion for up to 6 weeks. Despite the acute protective effect of TLR4 inhibition on renal function (serum creatinine 1.6 ± 0.4 mg/dL TLR4-deletion vs. 2.8 ± 0.3 mg/dL·WT) and rates of tubular apoptosis following ischemic AKI, we found no difference in neutrophil or macrophage infiltration. Furthermore, we observed significant protection from microvascular rarefaction at six weeks following injury with TLR4-deletion, but this did not alter development of fibrosis. In conclusion, we validate the acute protective effect of TLR4 signal inhibition in AKI but demonstrate that this protective effect does not mitigate the sequential fibrogenic response in this model of ischemic AKI
