    Get PDF
The student-life balance is the right that guarantees the equilibrium between ensuring the fulfillment of academic obligations and family responsibilities. In the current university curricula, the requirement to fulfill a certain number of classroom credits and other measures implemented by the European Space of Superior Education, pose a problem for students who need to reconcile parenthood with their training. In this research, we use a qualitative methodology based on the analysis of documentary content. We review the different international studies that investigate the resources, policies and lines of action that enable this balance in the context of Higher Education. And we discuss the information contained in the websites of various national and international universities. The results show that Spanish universities do not offer policies or concrete actions, highlighting the absence of a legal framework to support and ensure the student-life balance at university. To conclude, we propose some regulatory measures, as genuine equal options, to avoid discriminatory situations

Analytical possibilities of Putrescine and Cadaverine enzymatic colorimetric determination in tuna based on diamine oxidase: A critical study of the use of ABTS

    Get PDF
The joint determination of putrescine (Put) and cadaverine (Cad) in the presence of other biogenic amines is studied using their enzymatic reaction with diamine oxidase (DAO). Three alternative methods are studied based on the intrinsic colorimetric properties of DAO or horseradish peroxidase (HRP), and the use of 2, 2'-Azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt (ABTS) colorimetric reagent, respectively. In this last case an in-depth study is carried out in order to explain and solve some drawbacks usually associated with the use of this reagent (especially interferences, interaction with enzymes and instability), and to propose new analytical methodologies which this reagent allows to achieve (transient signal and the use of the violet species). Finally, the method has been applied to Put + Cad determination in a tuna sample without interference of other biogenic amines. The result has been compared with that obtained using a method based on HPLC-MS, which has allowed the new methodology to be validated

    Arqueología y patrimonio en educación

    Get PDF

On the usage of GRECOSAR, an orbital polarimetric SAR simulator of complex targets, to vessel classification studies

    Get PDF
This paper presents a synthetic aperture radar (SAR) simulator that is able to generate polarimetric SAR (POLSAR) and polarimetric inverse SAR data of complex targets. It solves the electromagnetic problem via high-frequency approximations, such as physical optics and the physical theory of diffraction, with notable computational efficiency. In principle, any orbital monostatic sensor working at any band, resolution, and operating mode can be modeled. To make simulations more realistic, the target’s bearing and speed are considered, and for the particular case of vessels, even the translational and rotational movements induced by the sea state. All these capabilities make the simulator a powerful tool for supplying large amounts of data with precise scenario information and for testing future sensor configurations. In this paper, the usefulness of the simulator on vessel classification studies is assessed. Several simulated polarimetric images are presented to analyze the potentialities of coherent target decompositions for classifying complex geometries, thus basing an operational algorithm. The limitations highlighted by the results suggest that other approaches, like POLSAR interferometry, should be explored.Peer Reviewe

Comparison of numerical models for vibro-acoustic analysis of structural panels in low modal density range engaging air layers

During launch, satellite and their equipment are subjected to loads of random nature and with a wide frequency range. Their vibro-acoustic response is an important issue to be analysed, for example for folded solar arrays and antennas. The main issue at low modal density is the modelling combinations engaging air layers, structures and external fluid. Depending on the modal density different methodologies, as FEM, BEM and SEA should be considered. This work focuses on the analysis of different combinations of the methodologies previously stated used in order to characterise the vibro-acoustic response of two rectangular sandwich structure panels isolated and engaging an air layer between them under a diffuse acoustic field. Focusing on the modelling of air layers, different models are proposed. To illustrate the phenomenology described and studied, experimental results from an acoustic test on an ARA-MKIII solar array in folded configuration are presented along with numerical results

[EN]Asthma is a multifactorial pathology influenced by environmental and genetic factors. Glucocorticoid treatment decreases symptoms by regulating genes involved in the inflammatory process through binding to specific DNA sequences. Polymorphisms located in the promoter region of the Prostaglandin D Receptor (PTGDR) gene have been related to asthma. We aimed to analyze the effect of PTGDR promoter haplotypes on gene expression and response to corticosteroid therapy. A549 lung epithelial cells were transfected with vectors carrying four different PTGDR haplotypes (CTCT, CCCC, CCCT and TCCT), and treated with dexamethasone. Different approaches to study the promoter activity (Dual Luciferase Reporter System), gene expression levels (qPCR) and cytokine secretion (Multiplexed Bead-based Flow Cytometric) were used. In addition, in silico analysis was also performed. Cells carrying the TCCT haplotype showed the lowest promoter activity (p-value<0.05) and mRNA expression levels in basal conditions. After dexamethasone treatment, cells carrying the wild-type variant CTCT showed the highest response, and those carrying the TCCT variant the lowest (p-value<0.05) in luciferase assays. Different transcription factor binding patterns were identified in silico. Moreover, differences in cytokine secretion were also found among different promoter haplotypes. Polymorphisms of PTGDR gene influence basal promoter activity and gene expression, as well as the cytokine secretory pattern. Furthermore, an association between these positions and response to corticoid treatment was observed

Criteria for mathematical model selection for satellite vibro-acoustic analysis depending on frequency range

Satellites and space equipment are exposed to diffuse acoustic fields during the launch process. The use of adequate techniques to model the response to the acoustic loads is a fundamental task during the design and verification phases. Considering the modal density of each element is necessary to identify the correct methodology. In this report selection criteria are presented in order to choose the correct modelling technique depending on the frequency ranges. A model satellite’s response to acoustic loads is presented, determining the modal densities of each component in different frequency ranges. The paper proposes to select the mathematical method in each modal density range and the differences in the response estimation due to the different used techniques. In addition, the methodologies to analyse the intermediate range of the system are discussed. The results are compared with experimental testing data obtained in an experimental modal test
