    Overview of the SCD1/Pegasus Mission

An overview of the third operational Pegasus mission, carrying the Brazilian Satelite de Coleta de Dados 1 (SCD1) satellite is presented. Developed by INPE, the 250 Ib, spin stabilized satellite will perform real time repeating of environmental data gathered by automatic ground stations throughout Brazil. The target orbit, 405 nm (750 km) at 25 deg inclination, was chosen to provide coverage of the entire Brazilian territory. A review of the SCD1 design, development and testing highlights the effectiveness of lightsat philosophy complemented by pc-based check-out and control equipment. A six month schedule from go-ahead to launch was achieved in spite of delays. Simple and effective hardware and interfaces allowed a straightforward, efficient and relatively short payload integration and test process. Mission planning addressed complex operations, including a cross country ferry flight, ground operations significantly removed from the control room, and a first time east coast Pegasus launch from a new range. A review of the flight results includes flight environments and final Pegasus guidance and performance results

Biological significance of dead biomass retention trait in Mediterranean Basin species: an analysis between different successional niches and regeneration strategies as functional groups

Standing dead biomass retention is considered one of the most relevant fuel structural traits to affect plant flammability. However, very little is known about the biological significance of this trait and its distribution between different functional groups. Our aim was to analyse how the proportion of dead biomass produced in Mediterranean species is related to the successional niche of species (early-, mid- and late-successional stages) and the regeneration strategy of species (seeders and resprouters). We evaluated biomass distribution by size classes and standing dead biomass retention in nine dominant species from the Mediterranean Basin in different development stages (5, 9, 14 and 26 years since the last fire). The results revealed significant differences in the standing dead biomass retention of species that presented a distinct successional niche or regeneration strategy. These differences were restricted to the oldest ages studied (>9 years). Tree and small tree resprouters, typical in late-successional stages, presented slight variations with age and a less marked trend to retain dead biomass, while seeder shrubs and dwarf shrubs, characteristic of early-successional stages, showed high dead biomass loads. Our results suggest that the species that tend to retain more dead branches are colonising species that may promote fire in early-successional stages. This research has been partially financed by programme FORESTERRA ERA-Net (Medwildfirelab, PCIN-2013-140-C04-03), PROMETEO II (Desestrés/2014/038) and the Spanish Ministry of Education (Resilience CGL 2011-30515-C02-02).

Effect of physical activity and job satisfaction: A bibliographic review

    Get PDF
Physical activity as a preventive method against job dissatisfaction. Depression and job dissatisfaction are one of the main problems nowadays as a consequence of the effects of the pandemic, especially in sedentary jobs. The aim of the research will be based on the research question: Is physical activity an effective preventive modality to improve job dissatisfaction in people with sedentary jobs? A literature review has been conducted in which randomised controlled studies and cross-sectional studies have been selected and the results and possible relationships between physical activity and job satisfaction have been analysed. Twelve articles were retrieved after applying the search criteria; 5 observational studies, 3 randomised controlled studies, 3 cross-sectional studies and a systematic review were analysed in the following databases: Pubmed, Scielos, Google Scholar and Dialnet. According to these studies, exercising for 30 minutes or more a day for three to five days a week can significantly improve symptoms of depression or anxiety. But small amounts of physical activity, as little as 10 to 15 minutes at a time, can make a difference (Health Letter Plus). A good assessment of the benefits of physical activity in the university workplace could help improve the design of specific training programmes. The conclusions have been that a small dose of physical activity per week can improve job satisfaction within the field of education and its different components (work stress, quality of sleep, social relations, burnout or absenteeism) with the aim of supporting the training programme for teachers and workers at the University of Almeria Ual Activa
