Static and dynamic properties of vortices in anisotropic magnetic disks

We investigate the effect of the magnetic anisotropy (KzK_z) on the static and dynamic properties of magnetic vortices in small disks. Our micromagnetic calculations reveal that for a range of KzK_z there is an enlargement of the vortex core. We analyze the influence of KzK_z on the dynamics of the vortex core magnetization reversal under the excitation of a pulsed field. The presence of KzK_z, which leads to better resolved vortex structures, allows us to discuss in more details the role played by the in-plane and perpendicular components of the gyrotropic field during the vortex-antivortex nucleation and annihilation.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

_______________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACTThis is a study on Health Integrative Practices, such as Homeopathy, Acupuncture and Self-massage within the Federal District Health Care System. The primary health clinics from Planaltina, Sobradinho e Paranoá regions where selected as objects. The Integrative and Complementary Practices National Policy was taken as the conceptual framework in observing its potentials and limits within the primary health care set. The study uses a qualitative approach to analyze some units where any of these three integrative approaches exist at least one year. Twenty nine persons were included in the research: nine managers, seven practitioners and thirteen patients. Data was collected by interviews using a semi-structured guideline. Data analysis allowed to illuminate some of the research objectives, such as the pratictioners effectiveness when supported by the managers; the weaknesses of the integrative practices inclusion in the health network and the ignorance of these practices values by the health network and by the majority of the society and the invisibility of its offer as a marginal set in the health system. Positive findings show that the integrative practices under study walk towards health promotion and humanized care, reaffirming the family medicine values, principles and organizational basis. The study points out specially the need to propagate and to inform about the integrative practices in the Federal District health care sets and in the society in order to sensitize managers and pratictioners, to improve infrastructure, and to encourage pratictioners formation aiming to expand quality of integrative health care actions and services

Profile of female swimmers competing in the 50 m events at the 2021 LEN European Championships

    Get PDF
This study aimed to understand whether there are significant differ- ences in stroke kinematics between tiers in female swimmers com- peting in the four 50 m events of the 2021 European Championships and to understand the speed-time relationship in the four race events per tier. Participants were all female swimmers (backstroke: 78 swim- mers; breaststroke: 75 swimmers; butterfly: 74 swimmers; freestyle: 87 swimmers) who participated in the 50 m events at the 2021 LEN European Championships held in Budapest (i.e. heats, semi-finals, and final). For each swimming stroke, swimmers were divided into three tiers (best-performing swimmers, intermedium-performing swimmers, and poorest-performing swimmers). Swimming speed revealed a significant tier effect (p < 0.05) in all race sections for all swimming strokes. The other stroke kinematic variables revealed divergent findings, but the stroke frequency presented an overall tier effect (p < 0.05) across all four swimming strokes. Curve fitting for all swimming strokes and tiers revealed a cubic relationship. Thus, it should be considered that female swimmers who compete in 50 m events in major competitions adopt an all-out strategy. The present data provide coaches with insightful information about the main trend in 50 m sprint events, specifically in each section of the race. The work was supported by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia [UIDB/DTP/04045/2020].info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Accelerometer-measured physical activity in Portuguese children from a rural area: a school-based cross-sectional study

    Get PDF
Young people are leading increasingly sedentary lives replacing physical activity with activities such as watching TV, internet surfing and video gaming. Of particular importance for physical activity promotion are schools where physical activity can be incorporated to improve student health outcomes and cognitive performance. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that children engage in at least 60 minutes per day of moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) for children and adolescents (between 5-18 years of age). However, few children follow these recommendations. In Portugal, some data suggest that as few as 7% do so. Furthermore, most physical activity studies take place in urban areas, so little is known about how active children and adolescents are in more rural parts of the country. The Acti-Study is a collaboration between the Instituto Politécnico de Bragança (Portugal) and Ulster University (UK) with the primary aim of assessing MVPA levels in students (age 10-16) from a high school in a rural town, in the Northeast of Portugal. Data collection will take place between September 2022 and January 2023, using a cross-sectional design. Students will receive a study pack containing information materials, a sociodemographic questionnaire and consent form for parental completion, and an assent form for student completion. Optionally, the questionnaire may be completed online. Participants will be informed that participation is voluntary and that they can withdraw at any time. Once children have returned the relevant documents completed and signed, they will be instructed to wear a hip-worn accelerometer (ActiGraph®, either GT3X or GT1M), on an elastic belt, for seven consecutive days (including weekend). Children who return their accelerometer will be rewarded with a 5€ voucher, and with a second one if they wore the accelerometer for a minimum of three days (at least 6h/day and at least one weekend). Data will be analysed through descriptive statistics, mostly in tables, divided by gender. With participant consent, data on anthropometric measures (height and weight), available through the school, will also be used. Primary analysis will consist of percentage of students who meet MVPA guidelines; secondary analyses will include exploring the relationship between sociodemographic variables (e.g., parental education) and MVPA, between parent-reported MVPA and accelerometer MVPA, and between accelerometer MVPA and anthropometric data. The results are expected to provide an understanding of the levels and factors associated with MVPA in rural Portugal, to allow comparison with other samples (e.g., from urban areas), to raise awareness to the problem and stimulate more physical activity initiatives. Association between hearing loss and vestibular disorders : a review of the interference of hearing in the balance

    Get PDF
Dizziness is very prevalent and makes a great impact on people’s life. Because of anatomical and functional similarities of hearing and vestibular systems, it is noted that there is a big relation between hearing loss and vestibular disorders. Depending on the age onset of hearing loss, it can cause even delay on motor development. Objective: To find literature that demonstrates the relation between hearing and balance. Confirming that hearing loss or even intervention to improve quality of hearing can interfere on vestibular system. Methodology: Revision of literature was carried out, preferring recent research only in English. Conclusion: Cochlea and vestibular systems have a close relationship; changes in one of them can cause big damage in the other. So, a complete evaluation of vestibular system is recommended before ear surgeries. Video Head Impulse Test is a new procedure able to evaluate high frequency movements of the head. It was an additional exam of vestibular status and came to help detect problems that were not diagnosed before. Efforts must be directed in order to protect the balance
