Interactive Music Generation with Positional Constraints using Anticipation-RNNs

Recurrent Neural Networks (RNNS) are now widely used on sequence generation tasks due to their ability to learn long-range dependencies and to generate sequences of arbitrary length. However, their left-to-right generation procedure only allows a limited control from a potential user which makes them unsuitable for interactive and creative usages such as interactive music generation. This paper introduces a novel architecture called Anticipation-RNN which possesses the assets of the RNN-based generative models while allowing to enforce user-defined positional constraints. We demonstrate its efficiency on the task of generating melodies satisfying positional constraints in the style of the soprano parts of the J.S. Bach chorale harmonizations. Sampling using the Anticipation-RNN is of the same order of complexity than sampling from the traditional RNN model. This fast and interactive generation of musical sequences opens ways to devise real-time systems that could be used for creative purposes.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figure

    Get PDF
This paper presents the technique for integrating the rectangular Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) filter with the rectangular microstrip patch antenna to produce filtering and radiating element in a single device. To proof the concept, the integrated microwave filter and antenna at center frequency of 2 GHz was demonstrated and validated through simulation and measurement. It demonstrated promising measured results, which were ingood agreement with the simulated results. The integrated microwave filter and antenna would be beneficial in microwave systems where the reduction of overall volume and weight as well as cost is very important such as in base stations and multiplexer in any communication systems

A New Class of Dual-mode Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) Filter with Two Metalized Posts

This paper presents the investigation and characterization of dual-mode Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) filter with two metalized posts on the cavity to reduce the overall volume of RF front-end subsystems. By introducing two vertical metalized posts and two diagonal metalized posts in dual-mode SIW filter, both SIW filters show different flow of Electromagnetics (EM) can be identify from the E-fields. In order to compare which dual-mode SIW filter gives the better performance, the designs are simulated at centre frequency 2 GHz using CST Studio Suite software and the results are validate through measurement. The measurement shows a good agreement with the simulated results. This design is suitable for any integration microwave system where the reduced complexity of the design and cost as well as weight is very important for the wireless communication systems

Connecting DNA Origami Structures Using the Biotin-Streptavidin Specific Binding

This work made use of the strong interaction between biotin and streptavidin to connect designed DNA origami structures. The caDNAno software was used to design a 6 layer 3D origami cross-like structure. Selected DNA strands at the engineered attachment sites on the DNA origami structure were biotinylated. After folding of the origami structures, the biotinylated strands stick out of the attachment sites. Purified samples of origami structures were then mixed with streptavidin and the mixture purified. After characterization, we see that attachment only occurs at the biotinylated sites. Agarose gel electrophoresis, UV-vis spectroscopy and TEM were used to characterize the structure.Key words: DNA Origami, Interaction, Biotin-Streptavidin, Nanomaterials, TEMAbbreviation: EDTA, Ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid; TEM, Transmission electron microscop

Stable photon orbits in stationary axisymmetric electrovacuum spacetimes

    Get PDF
We investigate the existence and phenomenology of stable photon orbits (SPOs) in stationary axisymmetric electrovacuum spacetimes in four dimensions. First, we review the classification of equatorial circular photon orbits on Kerr-Newman spacetimes in the charge-spin plane. Second, using a Hamiltonian formulation, we show that Reissner-Nordström diholes (a family encompassing the Majumdar-Papapetrou and Weyl-Bach special cases) admit SPOs, in a certain parameter regime that we investigate. Third, we explore the transition from order to chaos for typical SPOs bounded within a toroidal region around a dihole, via a selection of Poincaré sections. Finally, for general axisymmetric stationary spacetimes, we show that the Einstein-Maxwell field equations allow for the existence of SPOs in electro vacuum, but not in pure vacuum

Recent Trends on Dual- and Triple-Band Microwave Filters for Wireless Communications

    Get PDF
In the past few years, several designs of dual- and triple-band microwave filters satisfying various objectives have been proposed for wireless communication. Several designs are new concepts, whereas others are inspired from previous works. The development trends of these designs can be reviewed from this compilation of studies. This paper begins with an explanation of dual- and triple-band microwave filters, followed by a discussion on several designs in terms of size, measurement, performance, and technology use. Among various designs, microstrip band-pass filters are extensively used because of their simple design procedures and because they can be integrated into circuits easily. Furthermore, most researchers use low frequencies in their designs because of the demands of current wireless applications. Finally, designs are proposed to produce compact microwave filters with good performance

This paper presents an analysis based upon the resonant circuit approach to develop hybrid system for integrating a microwave filter and an antenna in a single device. This technique is used to reduce the overall volume of RF/ microwave front-end device especially in wireless communication systems. This study focuses on the hybrid of rectangular Substrate Integrated Waveguide (SIW) filter with rectangular microstrip patch antenna to produce filtering and radiating element in a single system. To prove the concept, the hybrid of microwave filter and antenna, the operating frequency of 2 GHz is demonstrated and validated through simulation and experimental. The experimental performance shows promising results which were in good agreement with the simulated results particularly in exhibiting return loss better than 10 dB in the passband region. This study is useful for any hybrid microwave system whereby it can reduce the complexity of the design, weight and cost as it is very important in base stations and multiplexer in any wireless communication systems
