The renormalized jellium model for spherical and cylindrical colloids

Starting from a mean-field description for a dispersion of highly charged spherical or (parallel) rod-like colloids, we introduce the simplification of a homogeneous background to include the contribution of other polyions to the static field created by a tagged polyion. The charge of this background is self-consistently renormalized to coincide with the polyion effective charge, the latter quantity thereby exhibiting a non-trivial density dependence, which directly enters into the equation of state through a simple analytical expression. The good agreement observed between the pressure calculated using the renormalized jellium and Monte Carlo simulations confirms the relevance of the {renormalized} jellium model for theoretical and experimental purposes and provides an alternative to the Poisson-Boltzmann cell model since it is free of some of the intrinsic limitations of this approach

Growth of number of periodic orbits of one family of skew product maps

In this article we introduce a one-parameter family of skew product (Gt)t ∈ [−ε, ε] maps exhibiting a heterodimensional cycle such that the number of isolated periodic orbits inside it has not super-exponential growth. The dynamics in the central direction of the maps Gt is described by a one-parameter family of system of iterated functions.This work is part of the PhD thesis of the author, under the supervision of Lorenzo Diaz and Jorge Rocha. Projeto Hausmusik Brasil

Anais do 35º Seminário de Extensão Universitária da Região Sul - Área Temática: CulturaA atividade artística realizada em residências familiares – ​ Hausmusik – é uma vivência social de fomento da prática musical, da convivência e unidade familiar. Este estudo aborda aspectos desta ação doméstica contendo uma breve perspectiva histórica, apresentação e resultados do modelo proposto: a vivência da arte presencial na sala de estar das famílias que se dispõem à abertura de seus lares. Consiste em um relato de caso das experiências vivenciadas pelos recitais em família inseridos no Projeto Hausmusik Brasil. Este Projeto é organizado em Séries Anuais estruturadas em núcleos conceituais, a partir das demandas dos professores e alunos na preparação e divulgação dos seus esforços criativos. A família recebe em sua casa o artista e convidados; “transformando a sala de estar de sua residência, em um palco temporário para a arte”, conforme lema do Projeto. O evento é acompanhado de um programa impresso contendo as músicas apresentadas e imagens que retratam momentos da história desta família. Este tipo de prática pode ser um eixo central para o fomento da arte presencial, no qual artista e a comunidade no âmbito familiar interagem de maneira prazerosa; envolvendo a educação musical em um contexto informal, afetivo e de grande alcance. Esta atividade artística extensiva nos lares pode também constituir-se como uma ferramenta preventiva da saúde familiar, com o fortalecimento, identidade e leveza nas relações humanas; colaborando assim, com a promoção da saúde pública, aproximando gerações e promovendo cultura. The Great Gatsby and its Allegorical Meaning

This article seeks to analyze the novel The Great Gatsby (1925) as a narrative and iconographic representation of the American Dream. The first part of the article highlights the concept of allegory presented by Walter Benjamin in describing the engraving Angelus Novus (1920) in which he associates iconography and narrative. The concept will be tied to the novel as a key to reading and interpretation. In the novel, the American Dream associated with the desire for material goods is reconnected to a pastoral aura through the character Gatsby, idealized male projection. This aspect is going to be highlighted in the second part of the article. The conclusion resumes the resizing of the American Dream as a manifest allegory in atemporal space. Space, in the novel, is constructed as a system in which the belonging of characters to places determines their relations of power
