Most data mining and pattern recognition techniques are designed for learning from at data files with the assumption of equal populations per class. However, most real-world data are stored as rich relational databases that generally have imbalanced class distribution. For such domains, a rich relational technique is required to accurately model the different objects and relationships in the domain, which can not be easily represented as a set of simple attributes, and at the same time handle the imbalanced class problem.Motivated by the significance of mining imbalanced relational databases that represent the majority of real-world data, learning techniques for mining imbalanced relational domains are investigated. In this thesis, the employment of probabilistic models in mining relational databases is explored. In particular, the Probabilistic Relational Models (PRMs) that were proposed as an extension of the attribute-based Bayesian Networks. The effectiveness of PRMs in mining real-world databases was explored by learning PRMs from a real-world university relational database. A visual data mining tool is also proposed to aid the interpretation of the outcomes of the PRM learned models.Despite the effectiveness of PRMs in relational learning, the performance of PRMs as predictive models is significantly hindered by the imbalanced class problem. This is due to the fact that PRMs share the assumption common to other learning techniques of relatively balanced class distributions in the training data. Therefore, this thesis proposes a number of models utilizing the effectiveness of PRMs in relational learning and extending it for mining imbalanced relational domains. The first model introduced in this thesis examines the problem of mining imbalanced relational domains for a single two-class attribute. The model is proposed by enriching the PRM learning with the ensemble learning technique. The premise behind this model is that an ensemble of models would attain better performance than a single model, as misclassification committed by one of the models can be often correctly classified by others.Based on this approach, another model is introduced to address the problem of mining multiple imbalanced attributes, in which it is important to predict several attributes rather than a single one. In this model, the ensemble bagging sampling approach is exploited to attain a single model for mining several attributes. Finally, the thesis outlines the problem of imbalanced multi-class classification and introduces a generalized framework to handle this problem for both relational and non-relational domains

ABSTRACT Seedlings of Raphanus sativus and Eruca sativa were grown in pots containing acid-washed soil and irrigated with every 3 days for 4 weeks nutrient solution based on one-fifth Long Ashton solution containing 50, 100 and 200 ppm of Cd and Pb concentrations. Measurements of plant height, fresh and dry weights, chlorophyll contents, electrophoteric patterns of proteins, oxidative enzymes activity (Ascorbic acid oxidase and peroxidase) and accumulation of Cd, Pb and Fe were evaluated in seedlings of both plants. It was found that, increased supply of Cd and Pb significantly increased fresh and dry weights and significantly decreased plant height in both Raphanus sativus and Eruca sativa. Total chlorophyll content was increased with increasing Cd and Pb concentration in both two plants studied. Treatment with Cd and Pb at all concentrations increased significantly peroxidase and ascorbic acid oxidase activity. Low concentrations of Cd and Pb decreased polypeptide concentration in both Raphanus sativus and Eruca sativa compared with the control. Also, increasing two heavy metals concentration resulted in the appearance of new protein bands. It was also noticed that, increasing Cd and Pb concentration in nutrient solution significantly increased uptake and accumulation of these two heavy metals in Raphanus sativus and Eruca sativa. Accumulation of Fe in the two studied plants was significantly decreased with increasing supply of Cd and Pb. From the above results, it could be concluded that, Raphanus sativus and Eruca sativa possess the ability to tolerate and accumulate toxic metals. Also, it was suggested that, Raphanus sativus and Eruca sativa used as metal-scavenging plants for contaminated soils

Objective: The objectives of this study were to assess the prevalence of hypertension and the level of blood pressure (BP) control among a cohort of diabetic Lebanese patients on antihypertensive medications, as well as to identify factors associated with hypertension prevalence and uncontrolled BP.Methods: This cross-sectional retrospective study was conducted in a tertiary health care clinic that is specialized in the management and follow-up of diabetic outpatients. Results: Among the 700 type 2 diabetes mellitus patient files that were screened529 (75%) were found to have hypertension. Hypertension was more prevalent in women, patients aged ≥65-year-old, and those having a body mass index (BMI) of ≥30 (kg/m2) (p-value<0.05). Among the hypertensive cohort, 465 T2DM were on antihypertensive medications and were included in the hypertension control analysis. Ninety-three patients (20%) attained BP control (SBP<140 and DBP<90 mmHg). Multivariate analyses revealed three factors that were significantly associated with uncontrolled BP control: Age being ≥65 y (adjusted OR = 1.96 (95% CI: 1.07–3.61, p-value<0.05), male gender (adjusted OR = 2.57, 95% CI: 1.41–4.66, p-value<0.05) and uncontrolled HDL (adjusted OR = 1.58, 95% CI: 1.33–2.01, p-value = 0.05). Conclusion: Hypertension is prevalent among the study patients. However, attainment of BP control was poor among these patients. Therefore, there is a need for studies that determine reasons behind this low BP control rate in order to design interventions aiming at improving the standard of care for these patients

Highways are transportation infrastructure that is very important in supporting land transportation. Without being matched by an increase in road infrastructure, it will result in an excessive load on the road structure and will cause congestion. Congestion is one of the problems that is often experienced or encountered, congestion occurs due to the large number of vehicles that exceed the capacity of the road so that it affects road performance. Based on the network pattern seen during holidays or weekends, access to and from the Malang City area tends to increase. Road side barriers that occur on Commander Sudirman street, Singosari are one of the causes of traffic jams. This research aims to provide an alternative plan in overcoming the problem of traffic jams on Commander Sudirman street, Singosari. The method used in this research was based on the 1997 Indonesian Highway Capacity Manual (MKJI), as well as data collection using direct observation methods in the field and then followed by collecting primary data and secondary data. From the research results, the vehicle volume of 2320.6 pcu/hour and degree of saturation (DS) of 0.80 with a level of service (LOS) class D. So it is necessary to divert the route for heavy vehicles (HV) that pass through Commander Sudirman street in the direction of Malang - Surabaya to be diverted via Tumapel street, Ronggowuni street and Kertanegara street, then return to street main route, while for vehicles from Surabaya to Malang that will cross Commander Sudirman street with heavy vehicle types (HV) will follow the current road diversion, namely crossing Rogonoto street, Kebon Agung street, Watu Gede street, and Stasiun street then returning. to the main road as well as installing signs prohibiting parking in the Singosari market shopping area which is on Commander Sudirman street. From the results of this treatment the DS value became 0.76
