    Healthy Paws Doggie Day Camp

    Get PDF
“Healthy Paws Doggie Day Camp” is an event that will help owners and dogs incorporate physical activity into their daily lives. General knowledge of exercise concerning dogs is considerably lacking, obviously observed as they become more obese over time (Fennell, 2005). Between 40-50 percent of our dogs are overweight (Fennell, 2005). It is not only humans who have trouble controlling their body weight, while metabolism begins to slow down with age, canines are also affected. (Borzendowski, 2007).Walking a dog could help a large proportion of the U.S. population [dog owners] increase their physical activity as well as that of their dogs (Ham & Epping, 2006)

These Heels Were Made For Working: Women’s Appearance in the Workplace

Do women\u27s choice in apparel, hair, makeup, and overall appearance have an impact in the way they are perceived in the world of business? In careers that are predominantly male, are women not taken seriously based on how they look? We challenge the idea that a woman can\u27t be attractive, confident, and smart. With research taken from academic journals and prominent magazines, we explore whether or not there is a gender barrier in the workplace. The findings are geared towards young women entering the business world so they can be better prepared for the scene of a male-dominated field

The main role of English as Second Language (ESL) writing teachers is to help their students improve their writing proficiency in accordance with students needs and objective. How to best achieve is the concern of many ESL writing teachers and researchers (Polio, 2003). Providing feedback is viewed- both by teachers and students- as an important part of ESL writing instruction (Enginarla, 1994). One type of feedback that ESL writing teachers provide is error correction. It is perhaps the most widely used method for responding to students writing. For teachers, it represents the largest allocation of time they spend as writing instructors; and for students, error correction may be the most important component that will contribute to their success as writers (Ferris, 2003). Learning a foreign language is a lifelong process and it is often a challenging experience for language learners. Most if not all writing teachers would agree that composition writing is one of the most difficult subjects for foreign language learners. Providing written feedback is indispensable because it plays an important role in guiding, motivating, and encouraging students to improve their accuracy in second language (L2) writing. From this point of view, it is clear that teachers´beliefs, which influence their L2 writing instruction, and students´attitude and preferences regarding error correction, are important (Journal of Education, 2012). Measuring the vulnerability of the Uruguayan population to vector-borne diseases via spatially hierarchical factor models

We propose a model-based vulnerability index of the population from Uruguay to vector-borne diseases. We have available measurements of a set of variables in the census tract level of the 19 Departmental capitals of Uruguay. In particular, we propose an index that combines different sources of information via a set of micro-environmental indicators and geographical location in the country. Our index is based on a new class of spatially hierarchical factor models that explicitly account for the different levels of hierarchy in the country, such as census tracts within the city level, and cities in the country level. We compare our approach with that obtained when data are aggregated in the city level. We show that our proposal outperforms current and standard approaches, which fail to properly account for discrepancies in the region sizes, for example, number of census tracts. We also show that data aggregation can seriously affect the estimation of the cities vulnerability rankings under benchmark models.Comment: Published in at http://dx.doi.org/10.1214/11-AOAS497 the Annals of Applied Statistics (http://www.imstat.org/aoas/) by the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (http://www.imstat.org

A platform of theoretical connections between artistic practices, processes and curatorial apparatus

UIDB/05021/2020 UIDP/05021/2020The essay intends to re-evaluate the relations between cinema and the old media of drawing by dismantling the curatorial apparatus within the fabrication of a particular art work and its conceptual organisation; focusing on Alexandra do Carmo's drawing series (projects between 2008 and 2018) — and more specifically Studio Socialis 2014. These works enact a transient relationship between the mediums of drawing and video. Firstly we are analysing her work within the world of cinema as Idea; we argue that drawing is being used to conceptualise the editing tools of silent film, as if the silence of film without sound, seen through the fictional drawing tools, the pencil as the apparatus, could show us a cinema that lives from its mechanical support yet revealing itself distant from it—as articulated by Pavle Levi (2010) in a dialectical relationship between the concept and the apparatus. Secondly, it proposes a reflection on what is to build temporalities and the performatic aspect of the work—of the bodies of the ones looking, as well the memory process of translating one dispositif into another. All in a place of multiple pre given occupying conditions, the art institution.publishersversionpublishe

To determine if non-exclusive breastfeeding is associated with dyslipidemia in children with obesity. Materials and Methods: A retrospective, analytical case-control study was conducted. One hundred seventy-five pediatric patients with obesity entered the study, attended by an outpatient office in the department of Pediatrics, at the Belen de Trujillo Hospital during the 2015 – 2018 period, according to selection criteria they were divided into two groups: with dyslipidemia, and without dyslipidemia; applying the odds ratio, and the chi-square statistical test. Results: There were no significant differences with respect to the average age, nor the frequencies of sex, prematurity, low birth weight and macrosomia among obese children with or without dyslipidemia. The frequency of non-exclusive breastfeeding history in the group of obese children with dyslipidemia was 82.9%. The frequency of non-exclusive breastfeeding history in the group of obese children without dyslipidemia was 60.7%. The history of non-exclusive breastfeeding is a risk factor for dyslipidemias in obese children with an odds ratio of 3.13 which was significant (p <0.05). Conclusions: Non-exclusive breastfeeding is associated with dyslipidemia in children with obesity.Tesi

The present investigation sought to determinate the relationship between aggressiveness and resilience in high school students at a state educational institution of Huanchaco. The sample consisted of 270 students of the first to fifth grade of secondary education, using a descriptivecorrelational design. The Buss and Perry Aggression Questionnaire (AQ) was used to measure the aggressiveness variable and the Wagnild and Young Resilience Scale (ER) was used to measure the resilience variable. The results show a mean level of aggressiveness with 39.6% and a mean level of resilience with 41.1%. There is a highly significant correlation (p<.01), inverse and with a small effect size of the correlation between Aggressiveness and Resilience, indicating that the higher the level of Aggressiveness, the lower the level of Resilience.Tesi

Lot Streaming in Different Types of Production Processes: A PRISMA Systematic Review

    Get PDF
At present, any industry that wanted to be considered a vanguard must be willing to improve itself, developing innovative techniques to generate a competitive advantage against its direct competitors. Hence, many methods are employed to optimize production processes, such as Lot Streaming, which consists of partitioning the productive lots into overlapping small batches to reduce the overall operating times known as Makespan, reducing the delivery time to the final customer. This work proposes carrying out a systematic review following the PRISMA methodology to the existing literature in indexed databases that demonstrates the application of Lot Streaming in the different production systems, giving the scientific community a strong consultation tool, useful to validate the different important elements in the definition of the Makespan reduction objectives and their applicability in the industry. Two hundred papers were identified on the subject of this study. After applying a group of eligibility criteria, 63 articles were analyzed, concluding that Lot Streaming can be applied in different types of industrial processes, always keeping the main objective of reducing Makespan, becoming an excellent improvement tool, thanks to the use of different optimization algorithms, attached to the reality of each industry. This work was supported by the Universidad Tecnica de Ambato (UTA) and their Research and Development Department (DIDE) under project CONIN-P-256-2019, and SENESCYT by grants “Convocatoria Abierta 2011” and “Convocatoria Abierta 2013”
