    Literature review of research trends on unnatural deaths in older adult in Japan from 2000 to 2020: A text mining analysis

    The purpose of this study was to determine the current state of research on unnatural deaths in older adults in Japan. We searched original articles published in Japan from 2000 to 2020 by using the key terms“ older adult” and“ unnatural death” and identified 32 articles. We analyzed the articles by quantitative text mining with KH Coder (ver.3.0) software. The most frequently extracted words were“ death,”“ many,”“ discovery,”“ suicide,”“ cause of death,” and“ autopsy.” In the co-occurrence network analysis of words,“ death,”“ many,”“ suicide,” and“ man” had high mediation centrality. We used subgraph detection to classify the top 50 words into 5 groups: “Time delay before discovery of single older adult men after death,”“ Trend for unnatural deaths of missing older adults,”“ Relationship between mental illness and solitary death,”“ Investigation of cause of death by forensic autopsy,” and “Measures for preventing solitary death of older adults isolated from society.” Currently, studies are limited regarding possible measures to prevent solitary deaths among older adults isolated from society. In Japan, there is an urgent need to support older adults at risk of social isolation, such as single men and people with mental illnesses, to help maintain or improve their social integration

    Absence of C-type virus production in human leukemic B cell, T cell and null cell lines.

    Electron microscope observation of cultured human leukemic B cell, T cell and null cell lines and reverse transcriptase assay of the culture supernatants were all negative for the presence of C-type virus. Bat cell line, which propagates primate C-type viruses well, was cocultivated with the human leukemic cell lines, in the hope of amplification of virus if present. Three weeks after mixed culture, the culture supernatants were again examined for reverse transcriptase activity and the cells were tested for syncytia formation by cocultivation with rat XC, human KC and RSb cell lines. All these tests, except for the positive control using a simian sarcoma virus, were negative, suggesting that no C-type was produced from these human leukemic cell lines.</p

    背景 高齢化社会や医療の高度化の到来から, 看護学生の看護実践能力の強化の必要性が重要課題となっている. 目的 新設看護学部において看護実践能力が高い学生を育成するために必要と考えられる看護技術項目を明らかにすることを目的とした. 方法 各看護学領域代表者で技術項目検討委員会をもち, 本学部の教育理念に従って, 既存文献を参考にしながら, 項目を追加修正し, 各看護学領域が講義・演習・実習のどこで学習するかを確認した. 結果 学生の看護実践能力を育成する為の看護技術項目は19項目の大項目, 131の中項目, 160の小項目と整理し, 看護技術項目のシートを作成した. 結論 作成したシートは, 各看護学領域で学習する内容を講義の教材として活用し, 学生・教員・実習の指導者の3者間で, 個々の学生の看護技術の習得に有効であると考える. またそれは, 学生の看護実践能力の強化へと期待できる.Background With the aging of society and the advances in medical care technologies, it is increasingly important and necessary for nursing students to be able to use their nursing knowledge and skills in a practical setting. Educational institutions are therefore urged to provide the students with such training.Purpose The purpose of this paper is to clarify what skills are actually necessary and useful for students to become effective in their practice as nurses, and what training should be given at the new nursing department in order to enhance the practical nursing skills of students.Methods First, scholars and representatives of nursing-related fields formed a committee where skills required for achieving the purpose stated above were redefined in accordance with the university\u27s educational objectives. In revising the existing skills items, published information was also used as a reference. How each of the skills is learned, either in lectures, classroom training, or practical training, was confirmed by the committee.Results The nursing skills identified by the committee were classified into 19 skills of major importance, 131 skills of medium importance and 160 skills of less importance. The committee summarized them as a list of nursing skills.Conclusion The list can be used as teaching materials in the class, and can be used not only by teachers and advisors in the training but also by students. Students would refer to the list when learning nursing skills. Such use of the list may reinforce students\u27 ability to apply the obtained skills in their nursing performance

    Interaction of dimeric horse cytochrome c with cyanide ion

    We have previously shown that methionine-heme iron coordination is perturbed in domain-swapped dimeric horse cytochrome c. To gain insight into the effect of methionine dissociation in dimeric cytochrome c, we investigated its interaction with cyanide ion. We found that the Soret and Q bands of oxidized dimeric cytochrome c at 406.5 and 529 nm redshift to 413 and 536 nm, respectively, on addition of 1 mM cyanide ion. The binding constant of dimeric cytochrome c and cyanide ion was obtained as 2.5 × 104 M-1. The Fe-CN and C-N stretching (ν Fe-CN and ν CN) resonance Raman bands of CN--bound dimeric cytochrome c were observed at 443 and 2,126 cm-1, respectively. The ν Fe-CN frequency of dimeric cytochrome c was relatively low compared with that of other CN--bound heme proteins, and a relatively strong coupling between the Fe-C-N bending and porphyrin vibrations was observed in the 350-450-cm-1 region. The low ν Fe-CN frequency suggests weaker binding of the cyanide ion to dimeric cytochrome c compared with other heme proteins possessing a distal heme cavity. Although the secondary structure of dimeric cytochrome c did not change on addition of cyanide ion according to circular dichroism measurements, the dimer dissociation rate at 45 °C increased from (8.9 ± 0.7) × 10-6 to (3.8 ± 0.2) × 10-5 s-1, with a decrease of about 2 °C in its dissociation temperature obtained with differential scanning calorimetry. The results show that diatomic ligands may bind to the heme iron of dimeric cytochrome c and affect its stability

    Improved stopped-flow time-resolved resonance Raman spectroscopy device for studying enzymatic reactions

    An improved stopped-flow resonance Raman spectroscopy device was constructed using a stopped-flow mixer with a dead time of 3 ms and a mixing volume of 0.1 mL. The device was tested using myoglobin, where the formation reaction of a high-valent heme species, ferryl-oxo heme, was monitored by time-resolved resonance Raman spectroscopy after mixing a ferric myoglobin solution with a hydrogen peroxide solution. The ferryl-oxo heme formation rate constant obtained by Raman spectroscopy is in good agreement with the rate constant obtained by conventional stopped-flow absorption spectroscopy for the same reaction under the same conditions. It is proved by these results that the present device is generally applicable to enzyme-substrate reactions with a significantly higher time resolution than previously reported
