New insight into nanoparticle precipitation by electron beams in borosilicate glasses
Nanoprecipitation in different oxide glasses by means of electron irradiation in transmission electron microscopy (TEM) has been compared in this study. Upon irradiation, groups or patterns of nanoparticles with various morphologies and sizes were formed in borosilicate glasses, loaded with zinc, copper, and silver. The study successfully includes loading ranges for the target metal from doping level (1%) over medium level (20%) to majority phase (60%). It is found that particle patterning resolution is affected by parallel processes of amorphous phase separation, glass ablation, and delocalised precipitation. In addition, via an in-situ study, it is confirmed that by heating alone without irradiation, no precipitate nanoparticles form
Toxoplasma gondii infection in native village chickens (Gallus domesticus) in Selangor and Melaka, Malaysia
Toxoplasmosis is a worldwide zoonosis caused by the protozoa Toxoplasma gondii which affects human and animals. Village chickens Gallus domesticus) most commonly known as Ayam Kampung or free-range chickens, have been suggested to play a role in the epidemiology of toxoplasmosis. This study determines the presence of T. gondii in the villagechicken populations in two states of Malaysia. A total of 50 serum samples from the chickens from Selangor (n=20) and Melaka (n=30) were collected and analysed using commercial serological kits. T. gondii antigen was detected in 20% (Selangor 30%; Melaka 13%) samplesusing ELISA test and anti-T. gondii antibody was detected in all positive ELISA samples using the indirect haemagglutination test (IHAT). Histopathological examination revealed tissue changes such as inflammation and degeneration in brain and liver of seropositive chickens. This is the first report of T. gondii infection in the village chickens in Malaysia
ANALISIS PENERAPAN AKUNTANSI AKTIVA TETAP IMPLEMENTASI PERNYATAAN STANDAR AKUNTANSI KEUANGAN NOMOR 16 PADA PERUSAHAAN DAERAH AIR MINUM KOTA BALIKPAPAN
The purpose of this research is knowing how the application of Statement of Finance Accounting Standard Number 16 in PDAM Balikpapan City. The approach taken in this thesis is to use a descriptive research approach where this method is used to see and describe the state of the company systematically, and then analyze it so that it can provide suggestions for the future, data collection techniques, namely interviews and documentation. This research was held in Perusahaan Daerah Air Minum Balikpapan City, St. Ruhui Rahayu 1. Based on the research, PDAM Balikpapan City is fully presented what Statement Of Finance Accounting Standar Number 16 saying
Exploring metabolic responses of potato tissue induced by electric pulses
In this study, we investigated the metabolic
responses of potato tissue induced by pulsed electric field
(PEF). Potato tissue was subjected to field strengths ranging
from 30 to 500 V/cm, with a single rectangular pulse of 10 μs,
100 μs, or 1 ms. Metabolic responses were monitored using
isothermal calorimetry, changes on electrical resistance during
the delivery of the pulse, as well as impedance measurements.
Our results show that the metabolic response involves oxygen
consuming pathways as well as other unidentified events that
are shown to be insensitive to metabolic inhibitors such as
KCN and sodium azide. The metabolic response is strongly
dependent on pulsing conditions and is independent of the
total permeabilization achieved by the pulse. Evidence shows
that calorimetry is a simple and powerful method for
exploring conditions for metabolic stimulation, providing
information on metabolic responses that can not be obtained
from electrical measurements. This study set the basis for
further investigations on defense-related consequences of
PEF-induced stress.Sparbanksstiftelsen Färs & Frosta (Sweden).Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT).Lund University (Sweden).Department of Cell and Organism Biology; Department of Plant Biochemistry

ALPK1 missense pathogenic variant in five families leads to ROSAH syndrome, an ocular multisystem autosomal dominant disorder
Purpose: To identify the molecular cause in five unrelated families
with a distinct autosomal dominant ocular systemic disorder we
called ROSAH syndrome due to clinical features of retinal dystrophy,
optic nerve edema, splenomegaly, anhidrosis, and migraine headache.
Methods: Independent discovery exome and genome sequencing
in families 1, 2, and 3, and confirmation in families 4 and 5.
Expression of wild-type messenger RNA and protein in human and
mouse tissues and cell lines. Ciliary assays in fibroblasts from
affected and unaffected family members.
Results: We found the heterozygous missense variant in the ɑkinase gene, ALPK1, (c.710C>T, [p.Thr237Met]), segregated with
disease in all five families. All patients shared the ROSAH
phenotype with additional low-grade ocular inflammation, pancytopenia, recurrent infections, and mild renal impairment in some.
ALPK1 was notably expressed in retina, retinal pigment epithelium,
and optic nerve, with immunofluorescence indicating localization
to the basal body of the connecting cilium of the photoreceptors,
and presence in the sweat glands. Immunocytofluorescence
revealed expression at the centrioles and spindle poles during
metaphase, and at the base of the primary cilium. Affected family
member fibroblasts demonstrated defective ciliogenesis.
Conclusion: Heterozygosity for ALPK1, p.Thr237Met leads to
ROSAH syndrome, an autosomal dominant ocular systemic
disorder
