The article aims to discern, within the cultural production of the 60's, background convergences among attitudes in areas such as design, architecture and fine arts, examining the" production" of Roy Lichenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Venturi and Lygia Clark, design and Umberto Eco's" opera aperta" concept, from the point of view of the qualitative change of the perception, defined as" open". Far from being a minor question, the change in the public's and user's role, embedded within the above-cited productions, questioned central tenets of modernism, and especially, the relationship between the modern movement and the cultural industry

Objective: The Anadenanthera colubrina (Vell.) Brennan var. cebil is a medicinal plant that has been used for the treatment of many diseases in the northeastern region of Brazil. This plant contains secondary metabolites such as quercetin, a flavonoid that is known by its antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. The aim of this work is to propose the validation of an analytical method using high-performance liquid chromatography with diode array detector (HPLC-DAD) for the quantification of quercetin and standardization of the hydroalcoholic extract (HAE) of A. colubrina. Methods: The A. colubrina extracts were prepared by the maceration process with powdered leaves at 20% weight: volume (w/v) and a hydroalcoholic solution at 50% volume: volume (v/v) for 120 h at room temperature. After pretreatment of the hydroalcoholic extract, the quercetin marker was used for quantification and proceeded to the evaluation of validation parameters for the method using HPLC-DAD.Results: The analytical method proved to be specific. Linear over the range 1.4–26.6 µg/ml, regression analysis showed a good correlation coefficient (R2= 0.999); the limit of detection (LOD) and the limit of quantification (LOQ) were 0.27 and 0.81 μg/ml respectively. The relative standard deviation (RSD) did not exceed 2.5% for precision. The proposed method was validated with an average recovery of 92.5–97.5%.Conclusion: The method was validated using HPLC-DAD, allowing the quantification of quercetin in the standardisation process of extracts and quality control of the herbal drug containing A. colubrina Phyto complex

Fapes

    Get PDF
Objective: The aim of this research was to evaluate the acute and sub-acute oral toxicities of the nebulized dried extract of Myracrodruon urundeuva (NDEMU) leaf obtained by the spray drying technique on rabbits. Methods: In the acute toxicity study, the amount of nebulized dried extract (NDE) administered was adjusted to a dose of 2000 mg/kg of leaf powder of M. urundeuva to 6 rabbits once orally and were observed for 14 days. In the sub-acute study, the amount of NDEMU administered was adjusted to a dose of 2000 mg/kg/day of to 6 rabbits once daily for 30 day, orally. The appearance of toxic symptoms was observed every day, followed by each rabbits' food and drink intake. Haematological and biochemical analysis were observed and statistical analysis was performed on them. The rabbits were killed at the end of the study, and their organs were weighed and examined before organ histology were evaluated. Results: No toxic signs and no mortality were observed in the acute and sub-acute study. In the sub-acute study, the amount of dried extract administered was adjusted to a dose of 2000 mg/kg of leaf powder of M. urundeuva to 6 rabbits once daily for 30 days, orally. No toxic signs and no mortality were observed. There were no significant changes (p < 0.05) in the body weights, organ weights and haemato-biochemical parameters in any of the dose levels. No related histopathological lesions were observed. Conclusion: The results indicate that the treatment of repeated doses with the dried NDEME showed low toxicity in rabbits

Notes on Brood Morphology and the Development of the Neotropical Eusocial Wasp Mischocyttarus cerberus (Hymenoptera, Vespidae, Polistinae)

Mischocyttarus cerberus stands out among the most investigated species of the eusocial paper wasp, in Brazil. While the adult characteristics were relatively well reported in the earlier studies, very meager information was available regarding their immature stages. This study provides a description of the immature morphology of the general brood of M. cerberus, by studying the number of instars and analyzing the degree of influence exerted by some of the environmental factors on the individuals in the immature phases. This work involves a detailed study of 72 wasp colonies from Rio Claro and Ribeirão Preto. Using the larvae drawn from 41 nests, the number of instars was calculated; besides, the degree to which a few environmental factors could affect the immature brood development was assessed in 31 nests. Eggs showed patterns similar in terms of form and size to that of the species described earlier. The two ventral lobes, characteristic of the Mischocyttarus larvae, were fully developed only in the fifth instar. The measurements of the larval heads in the five instars found concurred with the earlier reports for most of the social wasps. Furthermore, the larval stages took longer to develop, which could be related to the greater susceptibility of the larvae to the prevailing environmental factors. From the results of our study, we concluded that the M. cerberus showed the typical developmental pattern in the immature stages of its genus

This article discusses the concept of quality of life in and at work, linked to health work management based on the evaluation of a work management instrument: the Career, Job, and Wage Plan. The aim was to analyze the plan as a work management technology in primary care in the Unified National Health System (SUS). The article discusses the plan in three municipalities in São Paulo State, Brazil: São Paulo, Guarulhos, and Campinas, in compliance with guidelines issued by the National Health Council in 2006, and using a qualitative survey conducted in 2007-2008. The study presents the findings from research in eight municipalities, based on interviews with managers, users (represented by Health Councils), and health workers and health sector trade unionists. The article concludes that this is still an incipient public management policy issue, with limited command by users, trade unionists, and health workers in the target municipalities, heavily populated hub cities in the health regions.O artigo trata do conceito de qualidade de vida no/do trabalho, articulando-o com a gestão do trabalho em saúde com base na avaliação de um instrumento de gestão do trabalho: o Plano de Carreiras, Cargos e Salários (PCCS).

Effects on the properties of cementitious composites using waste glass powder (WGP) as a partial replacement for cement: a systematic review

    Get PDF
The use of waste glass powder (WGP) as a supplementary cementitious material (SCM) rich in pozzolan as a partial replacement for cement has been a viable alternative, from the environmental and economic point of view, to solve problems caused by the high consumption of cement worldwide. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of the use of WGP, when used as a partial cement substitute, in some properties of cementitious composites (pastes, mortars and concretes), in the fresh and hardened state. Through a systematic literature review, 23 experimental research articles obtained from the world-renowned Science Direct database were analyzed. The results obtained from this review indicate improvements in some properties of cementitious composites with WGP, such as increased compressive strength at advanced ages, increased thermal neutron shielding capacity, reduced penetration of sulfate and chloride ions, mitigation of alkali-silica reaction, reduced thermal conductivity, improved mechanical and chemical properties, including the formation of a new crystalline phase (devitrite) when exposed to high temperatures, reductions in air entrapment, water absorption and porosity. Regarding workability, there was no consensus, however, regardless of the substitution content, all composites were within the slump limits. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of WGP in cementitious materials produces beneficial effects on some properties of cementitious composites

COMPARISON OF DIFFERENT METHODS OF MEASURING TREE VOLUMES IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF ANAPU, PARÁ, BRAZIL

    Get PDF
The objective of this study was to compare three methods of measuring the volume of individual trees used extensively as a basis for adjusting volumetric functions in areas under forest management in the Brazilian Amazon, and verify the influence of species and diameter classes in obtaining the volume of individual trees.   A total of 53 sample trees belonging to five species were analyzed and separated into three diametric classes.  The real volume (VR) was obtained using Smalian’s method on fixed sections of 2 meters intervals along the stem; the geometric volume (VG) was also obtained by Smalian’s method, but with the lengths of the various sections along the stem.  Volume loss (VP) was subtracted from the VR to obtain the usable volume (VA).  An ANOVA in a factorial design (5 x 3 x 3) was performed to verify the effect of 5 species, 3 diameter classes, and 3 volume measurement methods (VR, VG, and VA) on the different volumes obtained.  The 3 factors did affect the outcome of the analysis, but there were no interactions found between these variables.  The volumes obtained by cubic scaling with different lengths (VG) presented a lower mean volume than VR.  Although there was no difference between the means of VA and VR, wood loss was 6.5% of the total volume. There is a relationship between section length and volume loss, according to the presence of hollows, twists and cracks in the logs in the largest diameter classes

Toxoplasma gondii .
