A survey of chemical information systems

    Get PDF
A survey of the features, functions, and characteristics of a fairly wide variety of chemical information storage and retrieval systems currently in operation is given. The types of systems (together with an identification of the specific systems) addressed within this survey are as follows: patents and bibliographies (Derwent's Patent System; IFI Comprehensive Database; PULSAR); pharmacology and toxicology (Chemfile; PAGODE; CBF; HEEDA; NAPRALERT; MAACS); the chemical information system (CAS Chemical Registry System; SANSS; MSSS; CSEARCH; GINA; NMRLIT; CRYST; XTAL; PDSM; CAISF; RTECS Search System; AQUATOX; WDROP; OHMTADS; MLAB; Chemlab); spectra (OCETH; ASTM); crystals (CRYSRC); and physical properties (DETHERM). Summary characteristics and current trends in chemical information systems development are also examined

Three-dimensional simulations of turbulent spectra in the local interstellar medium

International audienceThree-dimensional time dependent numerical simulations of compressible magnetohydrodynamic fluids describing super-Alfvénic, supersonic and strongly magnetized space and laboratory plasmas show a nonlinear relaxation towards a state of near incompressibility. The latter is characterized essentially by a subsonic turbulent Mach number. This transition is mediated dynamically by disparate spectral energy dissipation rates in compressible magnetosonic and shear Alfvénic modes. Nonlinear cascades lead to super-Alfvénic turbulent motions decaying to a sub-Alfvénic regime that couples weakly with (magneto)acoustic cascades. Consequently, the supersonic plasma motion is transformed into highly subsonic motion and density fluctuations experience a passive convection. This model provides a self-consistent explaination of the ubiquitous nature of incompressible magnetoplasma fluctuations in the solar wind and the interstellar medium

Prediction of outcome of tubal ectopic pregnancy on the basis of site of implantation of embryo in the fallopian tube

Background: Ectopic pregnancy is a high-risk condition that occurs in 1.9 percent of reported pregnancies. The condition is the leading cause of pregnancy-related death in the first trimester. If a woman of reproductive age presents with abdominal pain, vaginal bleeding, syncope, or hypotension, the physician should perform a pregnancy test. If the patient is pregnant, the physician should perform a work-up to detect possible ectopic or ruptured ectopic pregnancy. Methods: This study was an observational analytical type of study in which all the diagnosed cases of tubal ectopic were included. Detailed history and clinical evaluation was done and information was collected in a pre-tested proforma. Data was analyzed by frequency, percentages and chi square test. Results: In this study total 50 cases were studied. In this we found a significant correlation between site of implantation in tubal ectopic and its final outcome. Conclusions: Early detection of tubal ectopic and its site of implantation can help in deciding further management especially to go for conservative or surgical management.

Influence of gender on static balance in healthy community dwelling elderly: a comparison using posturography

    Get PDF
Background: Background and need of study- Influence of gender on balance is still controversial. Previous researchers have done studies using traditional methods. These methods may fail to detect subtle changes in balance difference. A tool like posturography which is highly specific may help to for accurate assessment and hence precise conclusion. Aim was to compare balance scores of male and female elderly using modified Clinical Test of Sensory Interaction on Balance (CTSIB).Methods: There were 56 healthy elderly ambulating without an assistive device and free from any neurological and orthopedic problems were assessed for their balance abilities using mCTSIB of balance master(standing on firm surface with eyes open, with eyes closed, standing on foam surface with eyes open and with eyes closed). Sway velocity was assessed using Unpaired t test. Results: There was a no significant difference in scores of modified CTSIB between male and female elderly ( p value>0.005).Conclusions: Gender has no effect on static balance abilities between male and female elderly while performing modified clinical test of sensory interaction on balance

A five-dimensional Bianchi type-I space-time is considered in the presence of a perfect fluid source in Barber\u27s (Gen. Relat. Gravit. 14, 117, 1982) second self-creation theory of gravitation. The model is presented using a relation between the metric potentials and an equation of state. Some physical and kinematical properties of the model are discussed.Razmatramo Bianchijev prostor-vrijeme tipa I u pet dimenzija, uz prisustvo perfektne tekućine, u drugoj Barberovoj samotvornoj teoriji gravitacije (Gen. Relat. Gravit. 14, 117, 1982). U modelu pretpostavljamo relaciju među metričkim potencijalima i jednadžbu stanja. Raspravljamo neke fizičke i kinematičke odlike modela

    Drugs in pregnancy and lactation

Drug use during pregnancy and lactation is an almost inevitable event. Some of the drugs may have adverse effects on the baby on exposure. It is therefore necessary for the physician to be aware of the changes in pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics during pregnancy. Knowledge about the known teratogens and drugs safe to be used during pregnancy is essential on the part of the prescribing physician. There are many factors affecting drug passage into the milk and thus affecting the child in some cases. There are also some drugs affecting lactation. All this data needs to be carefully studied by the physician
