    Pattern of Caesarian Section complications among Primiparous Versus Multiparous

    Background: Caesarean section is the delivery of a baby by surgery also known as abdominal birth. Cesarean section is one of the major surgeries where both mother and a newborn can be at risk. Aims: to Estimate the pattern of cesarean complications encountered among Primiparous versus Multiparous during Puerperium. Researchdesign: A prospective study designed adopted for this study. Setting: This study was conducted in the postpartum wards of Obstetrics Department, Women's Health Center, Assiut University Hospital, Egypt. Tool: Structured interviewing questioner and follow-up sheet used for data collection Results: more than half of women in both groups had an emergency cesarean section (69.1% vs. 54.5%) with a significant statistical difference. Fetal distress was the most common indication for cesarean section in primiparous, While repeated cesarean section was at the top of the list in multigravida, Incidence of complications encountered among both group nearly equal, there were no associations between the type of Cesarean Section and postoperative complications (p=0.736) and there was no significant statistical difference between both groups as regarding to intraoperative or postoperative cesarean complications. Conclusion: There was no significance statistically difference regarding Caesarian Section Complications encountered among puerperal women either during intraoperative or post-operative among Primiparous Versus Multiparous. Recommendations: implementation of the training program for nurses to improve their knowledge and skills regarding the prevention, assessment, and management of cesarean section complications. A list of counseling hotlines or health-care centers should also be included. Nurses and childbirth educators are in an ideal situation to discuss postpartum issues.

    Some Properties of No-Fines Concrete Produced by Using Demolished Concrete as Recycled Coarse Aggregate

    This paper investigate some mechanical properties of no-fines concrete produced by using demolished concrete as coarse aggregate after crushing to different sizes. Different no-fine mixes were considered using Portland cement type I with two types of coarse aggregates, crushed natural gravel and crushed demolished concrete were used with two ratios by weight (1:5 and 1:7) cement/aggregate. Single size and graded aggregate were used with a maximum size of 20 mm. W /C ratio was kept as 0.4 for all mixes and supper plasticizer was used to keep the same flow and compaction factor value for all mixes . Using demolished concrete as coarse aggregate in no fine concrete led to decrease in the workability. As a comparison with natural coarse aggregate mixes, the average percentages of decreases for the flow, compaction factor and the fresh density were 2%, 2.3% and 6.4%, respectively. As well as the test results indicated that the compressive strength, splitting tensile strength, flexural strength and oven dry density for no fine made with crushed demolished concrete at age 28 days were decreased by about 29%, 22 %, 21% and 4% respectively as compared with no fine made by natural crushed aggregate

    The Inhibitive Effect of BTA on The Corrosion of Copper Rotating Cylinder Electrode in Oxygenated 0.1M H2SO4 Under Controlled Conditions of Mass Transfer

    The inhibitive action of benzotrizole (BTA) on the corrosion of copper inoxygenated 0.1M sulfuric acid solution has been investigated using the rotatingcylinder electrode to provide turbulent conditions. Potentiostatic polarizationmeasurements were carried out at different temperatures of 283,288,293 and 298Kand various speeds of rotation, 100,200,300 and 400 rpm.In general, BTA, at concentration of 0.01M, effectively inhibits the corrosion ofcopper in oxygenated 0.1M sulfuric acid solution. Moreover, BTA effectivelyinhibits the anodic dissolution of copper and the cathodic reactions ,i.e., HER andoxygen reduction reaction. Therefore, BTA acts as a mixed inhibitor inoxygenated solutions.The overall percentage of inhibition efficiency is about 98% . This indicates thata Cu-BTA film is developed on the copper electrode surface which about 98% ofthe corrosion rate . The overall inhibition efficiency is neither affected by theturbulent flow rate , nor by the temperature increases.The corrosion rate is temperature dependent only, which indicates that thecorrosion of copper in inhibited oxygenated 0.1M sulfuric acid solutions is underactivation control

    Evaluation of the Efficacy of Single Anastomosis Sleeve Ileal (SASI) Bypass for Patients with Morbid Obesity: a Multicenter Study

    Background: Single anastomosis sleeve ileal (SASI) bypass is a newly introduced bariatric and metabolic procedure. The present multicenter study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of the SASI bypass in the treatment of patients with morbid obesity and the metabolic syndrome. Methods: This is a retrospective, seven-country, multicenter study on patients with morbid obesity who underwent the SASI bypass. Data regarding patients' demographics, body mass index (BMI), percentage of total weight loss (%TWL), percentage of excess weight loss (%EWL), and improvement in comorbidities at 12 months postoperatively and postoperative complications were collected. Results: Among 605 patients who underwent the SASI, 54 were excluded and 551 (390; 70.8% female) were included. At 12 months after the SASI, a significant decrease in the BMI was observed (43.2 ± 12.5 to 31.2 ± 9.7 kg/m2; p < 0.0001). The %TWL was 27.4 ± 13.4 and the %EWL was 63.9 ± 29.5. Among the 279 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), complete remission was recorded in 234 (83.9%) patients and partial improvement in 43 (15.4%) patients. Eighty-six (36.1%) patients with hypertension, 104 (65%) patients with hyperlipidemia, 37 (57.8%) patients with sleep apnea, and 70 (92.1%) patients with GERD achieved remission. Fifty-six (10.1%) complications and 2 (0.3%) mortalities were recorded. Most complications were minor. All patients had 12 months follow-up. Conclusions: The SASI bypass is an effective bariatric and metabolic surgery that achieved satisfactory weight loss and improvement in medical comorbidities, including T2DM, hypertension, sleep apnea, and GERD, with a low complication rate.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    A Mini-Review of Enhancing Ultrafiltration Membranes (Uf) for Wastewater Treatment: Performance and Stability

    The scarcity of freshwater resources in many regions of the world has contributed to the emergence of various technologies for treating and recovering wastewater for reuse in industry, agriculture, and households. Deep wastewater treatment from oils and petroleum products is one of the difficult tasks that must be solved. Among the known technologies, UF membranes have found wide industrial application with high efficiency in removing various pollutants from wastewater. It is shown that the search for and development of highly efficient, durable, and resistant to oil pollution UF membranes for the treatment of oily wastewater is an urgent research task. The key parameters to improve the performance of UF membranes are by enhancing wettability (hydrophilicity) and the antifouling behavior of membranes. In this review, we highlight the using of ultrafiltration (UF) membranes primarily to treat oily wastewater. Various methods of polymer alterations of the UF membrane were studied to improve hydrophilicity, the ability of antifouling the membrane, and oil rejection, including polymer blending, membrane surface modification, and the mixed membrane matrix. The influence of the type and composition of the hydrophilic additives of nanoparticles (e.g., Multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNT), graphene oxide (GO), zinc oxide (ZnO), and titanium dioxide (TiO2 ), etc.) was investigated.     Integrating genetic maps in bambara groundnut [Vigna subterranea (L) Verdc.] and their syntenic relationships among closely related legumes

    Background Bambara groundnut [Vigna subterranea (L) Verdc.] is an indigenous legume crop grown mainly in subsistence and small-scale agriculture in sub-Saharan Africa for its nutritious seeds and its tolerance to drought and poor soils. Given that the lack of ex ante sequence is often a bottleneck in marker-assisted crop breeding for minor and underutilised crops, we demonstrate the use of limited genetic information and resources developed within species, but linked to the well characterised common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) genome sequence and the partially annotated closely related species; adzuki bean (Vigna angularis) and mung bean (Vigna radiata). From these comparisons we identify conserved synteny blocks corresponding to the Linkage Groups (LGs) in bambara groundnut genetic maps and evaluate the potential to identify genes in conserved syntenic locations in a sequenced genome that underlie a QTL position in the underutilised crop genome. Results Two individual intraspecific linkage maps consisting of DArTseq markers were constructed in two bambara groundnut (2n = 2x = 22) segregating populations: 1) The genetic map of Population IA was derived from F2 lines (n = 263; IITA686 x Ankpa4) and covered 1,395.2 cM across 11 linkage groups; 2) The genetic map of Population TD was derived from F3 lines (n = 71; Tiga Nicuru x DipC) and covered 1,376.7 cM across 11 linkage groups. A total of 96 DArTseq markers from an initial pool of 142 pre-selected common markers were used. These were not only polymorphic in both populations but also each marker could be located using the unique sequence tag (at selected stringency) onto the common bean, adzuki bean and mung bean genomes, thus allowing the sequenced genomes to be used as an initial ‘pseudo’ physical map for bambara groundnut. A good correspondence was observed at the macro synteny level, particularly to the common bean genome. A test using the QTL location of an agronomic trait in one of the bambara groundnut maps allowed the corresponding flanking positions to be identified in common bean, mung bean and adzuki bean, demonstrating the possibility of identifying potential candidate genes underlying traits of interest through the conserved syntenic physical location of QTL in the well annotated genomes of closely related species. Conclusions The approach of adding pre-selected common markers in both populations before genetic map construction has provided a translational framework for potential identification of candidate genes underlying a QTL of trait of interest in bambara groundnut by linking the positions of known genetic effects within the underutilised species to the physical maps of other well-annotated legume species, without the need for an existing whole genome sequence of the study species. Identifying the conserved synteny between underutilised species without complete genome sequences and the genomes of major crops and model species with genetic and trait data is an important step in the translation of resources and information from major crop and model species into the minor crop species. Such minor crops will be required to play an important role in future agriculture under the effects of climate change

    Cten Is Targeted by Kras Signalling to Regulate Cell Motility in the Colon and Pancreas

    CTEN/TNS4 is an oncogene in colorectal cancer (CRC) which enhances cell motility although the mechanism of Cten regulation is unknown. We found an association between high Cten expression and KRAS/BRAF mutation in a series of CRC cell lines (p = 0.03) and hypothesised that Kras may regulate Cten. To test this, Kras was knocked-down (using small interfering (si)RNA) in CRC cell lines SW620 and DLD1 (high Cten expressors and mutant for KRAS). In each cell line, Kras knockdown was mirrored by down-regulation of Cten Since Kras signals through Braf, we tested the effect of Kras knockdown in CRC cell line Colo205 (which shows high Cten expression and is mutant for BRAF but wild type for KRAS). Cten levels were unaffected by Kras knockdown whilst Braf knockdown resulted in reduced Cten expression suggesting that Kras signals via Braf to regulate Cten. Quantification of Cten mRNA and protein analysis following proteasome inhibition suggested that regulation was of Cten transcription. Kras knockdown inhibited cell motility. To test whether this could be mediated through Cten, SW620 cells were co-transfected with Kras specific siRNAs and a Cten expression vector. Restoring Cten expression was able to restore cell motility despite Kras knockdown (transwell migration and wounding assay, p<0.001 for both). Since KRAS is mutated in many cancers, we investigated whether this relationship could be demonstrated in other tumour models. The experiments were repeated in the pancreatic cancer cell lines Colo357 & PSN-1(both high Cten expressors and mutant for KRAS). In both cell lines, Kras was shown to regulate Cten and forced expression of Cten was able to rescue loss of cell motility following Kras knockdown in PSN-1 (transwell migration assay, p<0.001). We conclude that, in the colon and pancreas, Cten is a downstream target of Kras and may be a mechanism through which Kras regulates of cell motility

    Groundwater Hydrogeochemical and Quality Appraisal for Agriculture Irrigation in Greenbelt Area, Iraq

    This study highlights the groundwater hydrogeochemical characteristics and processes (hydrochemistry characteristics, ion exchange, and salinization) and quality suitability assessment for irrigation purposes from five wells in the Greenbelt area located in northwestern Al‐Najaf Gov-ernorate, Iraq. The suitability of groundwater for irrigation was assessed based on the irrigation water quality index (IWQI) for thirteen parameters and groundwater quality indices such as total dissolved solids (TDS), electrical conductivity (EC), sodium adsorption ratio (SAR), soluble sodium percent (SSP), residual sodium carbonate (RSC), total hardness (TH), permeability index (PI), potential salinity (PS), Kelley’s ratio (KR), and magnesium hazard ratio (MHR). The IWQI’s average values ranged between 76–139. The results of IWQI for the first and second sampling sites showed values of 139 and 104, respectively, indicating that the groundwater was unsuitable and unsafe for irrigation. In contrast, the IWQI for the third, fourth, and fifth sites were 83, 97, and 76, respectively, indicating that the groundwater was safe and possibly used for irrigation. The EC, TDS, PS, and MHR indices were all found to be unsuitable for irrigation in all five sites, and the KR index was also found to be unsuitable for agricultural irrigation in about 80% of the sites, while it was found that the indices of SAR, SSP, RSC, PI, and TH for all sites were suitable and safe for irrigation. As a result of this study, it has been determined that groundwater in the study area is unsuitable for agricultural irrigation. For sustainable groundwater exploitation, it is advised that a continuous water‐quality‐monitoring program should be implemented, as well as the development of suitable management practices. © 2022 by the authors.     Fabrication of gum arabic-graphene (GGA) modified polyphenylsulfone (PPSU) mixed matrix membranes: A systematic evaluation study for ultrafiltration (UF) applications

    In the current work, a Gum, Arabic-modified Graphene (GGA), has been synthesized via a facile green method and employed for the first time as an additive for enhancement of the PPSU ultrafiltration membrane properties. A series of PPSU membranes containing very low (0–0.25) wt.% GGA were prepared, and their chemical structure and morphology were comprehensively investigated through atomic force microscopy (AFM), Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM). Besides, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) was harnessed to measure thermal characteristics, while surface hydrophilicity was determined by the contact angle. The PPSU-GGA membrane performance was assessed through volumetric flux, solute flux, and retention of sodium alginate solution as an organic polysaccharide model. Results demonstrated that GGA structure had been successfully synthesized as confirmed XRD patterns. Besides, all membranes prepared using low GGA content could impart enhanced hydrophilic nature and permeation characteristics compared to pristine PPSU membranes. Moreover, greater thermal stability, surface roughness, and a noticeable decline in the mean pore size of the membrane were obtained

    Occurrence of Tomato Leaf Miner Tuta Absoluta Meyrick(Lepidoptera:Gelechiidae) in Duhok Region (A)

    The aim of this work is to investigate the population density and infestation percentage of Tuta absoluta on tomato crop Lycopersicum esculentumMill under field conditions in three locations at Duhok province/ Kurdistan region/ northern of Iraq in 2012. The average number of mines/ leaflet, larvae/ leaf and larvae/ fruit during the study season were 2.33, 0.34 and 0.61 respectively. The results showed a significant differences in infestation percentage and number of male per trap among the three locations. The highest percentage of infestation was recorded in September as 74.00, 72.00 and 60.00 for Summel, Shekhan and Zawita respectively. The maximum number of males/ trap/ week was 1205.40 recorded on 26/8/2012 in Summel.
