    Using the ethnographic data acquired during a field work that lasts from 2007 to the present, in Alentejo (a region in the South of Portugal), we propose an analysis of the processes that originated the creation of such cultural forms as the “choral groups” dedicated to the practice of “Cante Alentejano” as well as of a special kind of performances. These are the “Groups’ parades”, which happen during the groups’ meetings. We intend to work on the concept of “cultural form” considered as the result of the combination of three main elements: a conceptual structure, a regulation mechanism (which amounts to a system of norms) and a community of practitioners, the cultural form’s bearers. We describe the social processes of form building concerning the singing and its performance during the parades, and stress the effects of such performances’ modalities (singing while marching) on the music itself

    La Serpiente Cascabel Sudamericana Crotalus Durissus: EcologĂ­a Alimentar En La RegiĂłn Central De Brasil

    We investigated food patterns in the diet composition of 452 specimens of Crotalus durissus from Central Brazil. Thirty-three items were recorded corresponding to four categories: rodents (75.76%), marsupials (6.06%), unidentified mammals (9.09%) and reptiles (9.09%). Adults of both sexes and some juveniles feed mostly on mammals, specifically rodents, it is the most active and abundant prey throughout the year mainly in areas from Cerrado. In addition, we observed that in C. durissus there is a trend in the diet of females could be more diverse, maybe this can be associated to sexual differences involving different strategies of the feeding biology of this rattlesnake. © 2016, Universidade Estadual de Campinas UNICAMP.     Structural basis for dual roles of Aar2p in U5 snRNP assembly

    Yeast U5 small nuclear ribonucleoprotein particle (snRNP) is assembled via a cytoplasmic precursor that contains the U5-specific Prp8 protein but lacks the U5-specific Brr2 helicase. Instead, pre-U5 snRNP includes the Aar2 protein not found in mature U5 snRNP or spliceosomes. Aar2p and Brr2p bind competitively to a C-terminal region of Prp8p that comprises consecutive RNase H-like and Jab1/MPN-like domains. To elucidate the molecular basis for this competition, we determined the crystal structure of Aar2p in complex with the Prp8p RNase H and Jab1/MPN domains. Aar2p binds on one side of the RNase H domain and extends its C terminus to the other side, where the Jab1/MPN domain is docked onto a composite Aar2p–RNase H platform. Known Brr2p interaction sites of the Jab1/MPN domain remain available, suggesting that Aar2p-mediated compaction of the Prp8p domains sterically interferes with Brr2p binding. Moreover, Aar2p occupies known RNA-binding sites of the RNase H domain, and Aar2p interferes with binding of U4/U6 di-snRNA to the Prp8p C-terminal region. Structural and functional analyses of phospho-mimetic mutations reveal how phosphorylation reduces affinity of Aar2p for Prp8p and allows Brr2p and U4/U6 binding. Our results show how Aar2p regulates both protein and RNA binding to Prp8p during U5 snRNP assembly

    Pulse-mode quantum projection synthesis: Effects of mode mismatch on optical state truncation and preparation

    Quantum projection synthesis can be used for phase-probability-distribution measurement, optical-state truncation and preparation. The method relies on interfering optical lights, which is a major challenge in experiments performed by pulsed light sources. In the pulsed regime, the time frequency overlap of the interfering lights plays a crucial role on the efficiency of the method when they have different mode structures. In this paper, the pulsed mode projection synthesis is developed, the mode structure of interfering lights are characterized and the effect of this overlap (or mode match) on the fidelity of optical-state truncation and preparation is investigated. By introducing the positive-operator-valued measure (POVM) for the detection events in the scheme, the effect of mode mismatch between the photon-counting detectors and the incident lights are also presented.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Phys.     OBJECTIVE: To compare two widely used drug treatments for people with aggression or agitation due to mental illness. DESIGN: Pragmatic, randomised clinical trial. SETTING: Three psychiatric emergency rooms in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. SUBJECTS: 301 aggressive or agitated people. INTERVENTIONS: Open treatment with intramuscular midazolam or intramuscular haloperidol plus promethazine. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES: Patients tranquil or sedated at 20 minutes. Secondary outcomes: patients tranquil or asleep by 40, 60, and 120 minutes; restrained or given extra drugs within 2 hours; severe adverse events; another episode of agitation or aggression; needing extra visits from doctor during first 24 hours; overall antipsychotic load in first 24 hours; and not discharged by two weeks

    Neutron stars in generalized f(R) gravity

    Quartic gravity theory is considered with the Einstein-Hilbert Lagrangean R+aR2+bRΌΜRΌΜ,R+aR^{2}+bR_{\mu \nu}R^{\mu \nu}, RΌΜR_{\mu \nu} being Ricci\'s tensor and R the curvature scalar. The parameters aa and bb are taken of order 1 km2.^{2}. Arguments are given which suggest that the effective theory so obtained may be a plausible approximation of a viable theory. A numerical integration is performed of the field equations for a free neutron gas. As in the standard Oppenheimer-Volkoff calculation the star mass increases with increasing central density until about 1 solar mass and then decreases. However a dramatic difference exists in the behaviour of the baryon number, which increases monotonically.     La crisis econĂłmica sufrida en España en los Ășltimos diez años ha obligado a los gestores de sus museos pĂșblicos a buscar nuevas fuentes de recursos con los que compensar la reducciĂłn de la financiaciĂłn pĂșblica. El patrocinio empresarial ha sido una de las vĂ­as que se han explorado mĂĄs intensamente. Una de las consecuencias de ese nuevo escenario es la debilidad negociadora de los museos ante las empresas patrocinadoras, percibiĂ©ndose indicios que permiten intuir la llegada a España de un nuevo modelo: los museos son utilizados como agencia de relaciones pĂșblicas de las empresas y se deja de lado la sutileza que habĂ­a caracterizado la relaciĂłn entre museo patrocinado y empresa patrocinadora. El artĂ­culo presenta la evoluciĂłn del patrocinio empresarial en los museos pĂșblicos de España, mostrando los cambios que se han producido en la relaciĂłn. Business sponsoring has been one of the most intensely studied channels. One of the consequences of the new scenario is the weak bargaining position of museums before sponsors. There are clues that suggest that a new model has arrived in Spain: museums are used as public relations agencies by businesses and the subtlety that once characterised the relationship between a sponsored museum and its sponsor disappears. The article lays out the development of business sponsorship in public museums in Spain, illustrating the changes that have taken place in this relationship. Through a content analysis of cases that answer to the new model and structured interviews with cultural journalists from written media, it is shown that sponsors do not achieve their objective, which is to factor the communication media into the equation to increase their brand notoriety and/or strengthen their corporate imag

    A potential valorization strategy of wine industry by-products and their application in cosmetics - Case study: Grape pomace and grapeseed

    Grape pomace and grapeseed are agro-industrial by-products, whose inadequate treatment generates socioeconomic and environmental concerns. Nevertheless, it is possible to valorize them by extracting their bioactive compounds, such as antioxidants (phenolic compounds), vitamin E and fatty acids. The bioactive compounds were extracted using solid-liquid extraction. The yields for phenolic compounds were 18.4 ± 0.4% for grape pomace, and 17.4 ± 0.4%, for grapeseed. For the oil, the yields were 13.3 ± 0.2% and 14.5 ± 0.3% for grape pomace and grapeseed. Antioxidant capacity was assessed by the assay with 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), and showed that phenolic extract has higher antioxidant capacity than the oils. Grape pomace and grapeseed extracts exhibit, correspondingly, values of 90.8 ± 0.8 and 87.5 ± 0.5 of DPPH inhibition and IC(50) of 48.9 ± 0.5 and 55.9 ± 0.7 ÎŒg(extract)·mL(DPPH)(−1). The antimicrobial capacity was assessed by the disk diffusion test, and revealed that, phenolic extracts inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Staphylococcus epidermidis. The obtained extracts were incorporated in 10 face cream formulations, with slight modifications in quantities of formulation stabilizers. Their stability was studied for 35 days, and this revealed the possibility of incorporating extracts and oils obtained from by-products as antioxidants in cosmetics, and replacing synthetic ones. As a future recommendation, microencapsulation of the extracts should be performed, in order to increase their stability

    Golpayegan metamorphic complex (Sanandaj–Sirjan Zone, Iran) as evidence for Cadomian back-arc magmatism: structure, geochemistry and isotopic data

    The Golpayegan metamorphic complex is located in the Sanandaj-Sirjan Zone, Iran. This complex consists of various metamorphic rocks including schists, marbles, slates, gneisses, and amphibolites, most of them have Neoproterozoic age. The presence of structures such as sigma fabrics, boudinage, folded boudinage and interfering fold patterns indicates the occurrence of more than two deformation phases in the Golpayegan metamorphic complex. The measurement of strain intensity in the folds indicated deep immersion of structures and old Precambrian settings that had been influenced by orogenic events in the Neoproterozoic. These deformed rocks were exposed during extensional movements and, subsequently, sheared. The results based on field works shown geochemical relations and initial ΔNd(600 Ma) values of amphibolites in three sampling points located in Golpayegan region manifested that the protolith of the first (a') and second (b') sampling points had mantle origin (ortho-amphibolite), whilst protolith of the third (c') sampling point had sedimentary origin (para-amphibolite). Geochemically, the Golpayegan ortho-amphibolites showed subalkaline basalt-basaltic andesite compositions of tholeiitic affinity. The negative anomalies of Nb and Ti relative to Pb, La, and Ce in the primitive mantle-normalized spider-diagram and ΔNd(600 Ma) values revealed the subduction environment for ortho-amphibolites. The ortho-amphibolites exhibited the intermediate chemistry between the normal mid-ocean ridge basalt and island-arc tholeiitic basalt. Enrichment in large ion lithophile elements (LILE), light rare earth elements (LREE), and relative depletion in high field strength elements (HFSE) suggest the back-arc basin setting for the Golpayegan ortho-amphibolites. The primitive magma of the ortho-amphibolites was produced by 8–20% melting of spinel lherzolite. According to the Neoproterozoic age of the Golpayegan ortho-amphibolites and their relationship with the Golpayegan granitic gneiss (596‒578 Ma), it shows that they can be related to the Cadomian back-arc basin in the north of Peri-Gondwana at the Neoproterozoic.
