    Concurrent Geometric Multicasting

    We present MCFR, a multicasting concurrent face routing algorithm that uses geometric routing to deliver a message from source to multiple targets. We describe the algorithm's operation, prove it correct, estimate its performance bounds and evaluate its performance using simulation. Our estimate shows that MCFR is the first geometric multicast routing algorithm whose message delivery latency is independent of network size and only proportional to the distance between the source and the targets. Our simulation indicates that MCFR has significantly better reliability than existing algorithms

    Ag nanoparticles of two different sizes (1 and 4 nm) were prepared within an apoferritin cavity by using an Ag+-loaded apoferritin as a nanoconfined environment for their construction. The initial amount of Ag' ions injected in the apoferritin cavity dictates the size of the final Ag particles. The protein shell prevents bulk aggregation of the metal particles, which renders them water soluble and extremely stable

    Seeing Beyond: Real-time Ultrasound Image Integration in Augmented Reality Based Telementoring

    Ultrasound imaging, when aptly integrated with augmented reality based medical telementoring, may be beneficial as an assistive tool in a range of trauma procedures including removal of foreign objects from blast injuries and central or peripheral venous access. Expected benefits include reduced procedure completion time, higher efficiency, and higher incision accuracy. This paper describes the implementation strategy selected for the integration of real time ultrasound imaging in the trainee view of a telementoring system. The proposed strategy augments the view of the trainee surgeon by displaying the ultrasound image directly below and parallel to the ultrasound transducer. The developed system features a fiducial marker based tracking approach employing a triplanar geometric fixture.     Compositional Constraints for Lucy Mission Trojan Asteroids via Near-Infrared Spectroscopy

    We report near-infrared (0.7-2.5 micron) reflectance spectra for each of the six target asteroids of the forthcoming NASA Discovery-class mission Lucy. Five Jupiter Trojans (the binary (617) Patroclus system, (3548) Eurybates, (21900) Orus, (11351) Leucus, and (15094) Polymele) are well-characterized, with measurable spectral differences. We also report a survey-quality spectrum for main belt asteroid (52246) Donaldjohanson. We measured a continuum of spectral slopes including "red" (Orus, Leucus), "less red" (Eurybates, Patroclus-Menoetius) and intermediate (Polymele), indicating a range of compositional end-members or geological histories. We perform radiative transfer modeling of several possible surface compositions. We find that the mild-sloped spectra and low albedo of Patroclus and Eurybates imply similar compositions. Eurybates (~7 wt.% water ice) and Patroclus (~4 wt.% water ice) are consistent with a hydrated surface. Models for Orus and Leucus are consistent with each other and require a significantly more reddening agent (e.g. iron-rich silicates or tholin-like organics). Polymele has a linear spectrum like Patroclus, but a higher albedo more closely aligned with Orus/Leucus, defying simple grouping. Solar system formation models generally predict that the Jovian Trojans accreted in the outer solar system. Our observations and analysis are generally consistent with this expectation, although not uniquely so.Comment: Accepted by AJ. 10 Figures, 5 Table

    Directional and Polarized Lasing Action on Pb-free FASnI3 Integrated in Flexible Optical Waveguide

    In this work, high-quality FASnI3 (FA, formamidinium) lead-free perovskite thin films are successfully incorporated in a flexible polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate to demonstrate amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) and lasing. The waveguide (WG) consists of polymethylmethacrylate(PMMA)/FASnI3 bilayer deposited on a PET substrate and is properly designed to allow single-mode propagation at the photoluminescence wavelength. This geometry optimizes the excitation of the emitting FASnI3, enhances the light−matter interaction in the semiconductor thin film, provides a preferable direction for the emitted light and allows its direct outcoupling for on-chip or fiber-optic applications. As far as the authors know, ASE and random lasing are obtained for the first time in a flexible-based WG integrating a highly efficient lead-free perovskite. The high quality of the deposited films and the optimized design of the structure result in an extremely low ASE/lasing threshold in the range of 1 µJ cm−2, which is only ten times higher than that measured in the same PMMA/FASnI3 structure deposited on a rigid substrate (Si/SiO2). More interestingly, these WGs exhibit a strong polarization anisotropy for the outcoupled ASE/lasing light with a preferable transverse electric polarization.     La demanda continua e insistente de innovación en el ámbito cotidiano, nos hace perder la perspectiva de análisis cuando los procesos requieren un periodo prolongado para resolverse. Esto ocurre con los bosques ubicados en cuencas vertientes a torrentes de montaña, que tienen su origen en la restauración hidrológico-forestal llevada a cabo en las mismas, como complemento de los trabajos de corrección hidráulica efectuados en los torrentes, para controlar los procesos de erosión, inundaciones y aterramientos, desencadenados en diferentes zonas de la cuenca, cuando se dinamizan en ella los ciclos del agua y de los sedimentos a causa de los aguaceros o de la repentina fusión del manto de nieve. La cuenca vertiente al torrente de Arratiecho, situada en el municipio de Biescas, Pirineo Aragonés, fue restaurada y el barranco corregido entre 1903-05; para evitar su desertificación ante la erosión generalizada que sufría la misma, frenar el deslizamiento de una ladera morrénica y reducir los efectos de las inundaciones y aterramientos en su cono de sedimentación, donde se ubican los terrenos más fértiles y le atraviesa la carretera nacional N-260. Se comentan los trabajos realizados y los resultados obtenidos un siglo después, atendiendo especialmente a la evolución de las reforestaciones, siguiendo los criterios utilizados en el análisis de los bosques protectores

    Exploring TanDEM-X Interferometric Products for Crop-Type Mapping

    The application of satellite single-pass interferometric data to crop-type mapping is demonstrated for the first time in this work. A set of nine TanDEM-X dual-pol pairs of images acquired during its science phase, from June to August 2015, is exploited for this purpose. An agricultural site located in Sevilla (Spain), composed of fields of 13 different crop species, is employed for validation. Sets of input features formed by polarimetric and interferometric observables are tested for crop classification, including single-pass coherence and repeat-pass coherence formed by consecutive images. The backscattering coefficient at HH and VV channels and the correlation between channels form the set of polarimetric features employed as a reference set upon which the added value of interferometric coherence is evaluated. The inclusion of single-pass coherence as feature improves by 2% the overall accuracy (OA) with respect to the reference case, reaching 92%. More importantly, in single-pol configurations OA increases by 10% for the HH channel and by 8% for the VV channel, reaching 87% and 88%, respectively. Repeat-pass coherence also improves the classification performance, but with final scores slightly worse than with single-pass coherence. However, it improves the individual performance of the backscattering coefficient by 6–7%. Furthermore, in products evaluated at field level the dual-pol repeat-pass coherence features provide the same score as single-pass coherence features (overall accuracy above 94%).
