Electronic properties of quantum dots formed by magnetic double barriers in quantum wires
The transport through a quantum wire exposed to two magnetic spikes in series
is modeled. We demonstrate that quantum dots can be formed this way which
couple to the leads via magnetic barriers. Conceptually, all quantum dot states
are accessible by transport experiments. The simulations show Breit-Wigner
resonances in the closed regime, while Fano resonances appear as soon as one
open transmission channel is present. The system allows to tune the dot's
confinement potential from sub-parabolic to superparabolic by experimentally
accessible parameters.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
Reply to "Comment on 'Scalar-tensor gravity coupled to a global monopole and flat rotation curves' "
In Brans-Dicke theory of gravity we explain how the extra constant value in
the formula for rotation velocities of stars in a galactic halo can be obtained
due to the global monopole field. We argue on a few points of the preceding

Field-induced confinement in (TMTSF)2ClO4 under accurately aligned magnetic fields
We present transport measurements along the least conducting c direction of
the organic superconductor (TMTSF)2ClO4, performed under an accurately aligned
magnetic field in the low temperature regime. The experimental results reveal a
two-dimensional confinement of the carriers in the (a,b) planes which is
governed by the magnetic field component along the b' direction. This 2-D
confinement is accompanied by a metal-insulator transition for the c axis
resistivity. These data are supported by a quantum mechanical calculation of
the transverse transport taking into account in self consistent treatment the
effect of the field on the interplane Green function and on the intraplane
scattering time
Auto-oscillation threshold, narrow spectral lines, and line jitter in spin-torque oscillators based on MgO magnetic tunnel junctions
We demonstrate spin torque induced auto-oscillation in MgO-based magnetic
tunnel junctions. At the generation threshold, we observe a strong line
narrowing down to 6 MHz at 300K and a dramatic increase in oscillator power,
yielding spectrally pure oscillations free of flicker noise. Setting the
synthetic antiferromagnet into autooscillation requires the same current
polarity as the one needed to switch the free layer magnetization. The induced
auto-oscillations are observed even at zero applied field, which is believed to
be the acoustic mode of the synthetic antiferromagnet. While the phase
coherence of the auto-oscillation is of the order of microseconds, the power
autocorrelation time is of the order of milliseconds and can be strongly
influenced by the free layer dynamics
Upper critical field divergence induced by mesoscopic phase separation in the organic superconductor (TMTSF)2ReO4
Due to the competition of two anion orders, (TMTSF)2ReO4, presents a phase
coexistence between semiconducting and metallic (superconducting) regions
(filaments or droplets) in a wide range of pressure. In this regime, the
superconducting upper critical field for H parallel to both c* and b' axes
present a linear part at low fields followed by a divergence above a cross-over
field. This cross-over corresponds to the 3D-2D decoupling transition expected
in filamentary or granular superconductors. The sharpness of the transition
also demonstrates that all filaments are of similar sizes and self organize in
a very ordered way. The distance between the filaments and their cross-section
are estimated.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure
Behavior of susceptible-infected-susceptible epidemics on heterogeneous networks with saturation
We investigate saturation effects in susceptible-infected-susceptible (SIS)
models of the spread of epidemics in heterogeneous populations. The structure
of interactions in the population is represented by networks with connectivity
distribution ,including scale-free(SF) networks with power law
distributions . Considering cases where the transmission
of infection between nodes depends on their connectivity, we introduce a
saturation function which reduces the infection transmission rate
across an edge going from a node with high connectivity . A mean
field approximation with the neglect of degree-degree correlation then leads to
a finite threshold for SF networks with . We
also find, in this approximation, the fraction of infected individuals among
those with degree for close to . We investigate via
computer simulation the contact process on a heterogeneous regular lattice and
compare the results with those obtained from mean field theory with and without
neglect of degree-degree correlations.Comment: 6 figure
The strong coupling constant from lattice QCD with N_f=2 dynamical quarks
We compute for two flavors of light dynamical quarks
using non-perturbatively improved Wilson fermions. We improve on a
recent calculation by employing Pad\'e-improved two-loop and three-loop
perturbation theory to convert the lattice numbers to the scheme.Comment: Contribution to Lattice 2001 (matrix elements), typo correcte
Auto-oscillation threshold and line narrowing in MgO-based spin-torque oscillators
We present an experimental study of the power spectrum of current-driven
magnetization oscillations in MgO tunnel junctions under low bias. We find the
existence of narrow spectral lines, down to 8 MHz in width at a frequency of
10.7 GHz, for small applied fields with clear evidence of an auto-oscillation
threshold. Micromagnetics simulations indicate that the excited mode
corresponds to an edge mode of the synthetic antiferromagnet
Simple scheme for expanding a polarization-entangled W state by adding one photon
We propose a simple scheme for expanding a polarization-entangled W state. By
mixing a single photon and one of the photons in an n-photon W state at a
polarization-dependent beam splitter (PDBS), we can obtain an (n+1)-photon W
state after post-selection. Our scheme also opens the door for generating
n-photon W states using single photons and linear optics.Comment: 3 pages, 2 figure
Conference Summary of QNP2018
This report is the summary of the Eighth International Conference on Quarks
and Nuclear Physics (QNP2018). Hadron and nuclear physics is the field to
investigate high-density quantum many-body systems bound by strong
interactions. It is intended to clarify matter generation of universe and
properties of quark-hadron many-body systems. The QNP is an international
conference which covers a wide range of hadron and nuclear physics, including
quark and gluon structure of hadrons, hadron spectroscopy, hadron interactions
and nuclear structure, hot and cold dense matter, and experimental facilities.
First, I introduce the current status of the hadron and nuclear physics field
related to this conference. Next, the organization of the conference is
explained, and a brief overview of major recent developments is discussed by
selecting topics from discussions at the plenary sessions. They include
rapidly-developing field of gravitational waves and nuclear physics, hadron
interactions and nuclear structure with strangeness, lattice QCD, hadron
spectroscopy, nucleon structure, heavy-ion physics, hadrons in nuclear medium,
and experimental facilities of EIC, GSI-FAIR, JLab, J-PARC, Super-KEKB, and
others. Nuclear physics is at a fortunate time to push various projects at
these facilities. However, we should note that the projects need to be
developed together with related studies in other fields such as gravitational
physics, astrophysics, condensed-matter physics, particle physics, and
fundamental quantum physics.Comment: 10 pages, LaTeX, 1 style file, 3 figure files, Proceedings of Eighth
