Chiral molecule adsorption on helical polymers
We present a lattice model for helicity induction on an optically inactive
polymer due to the adsorption of exogenous chiral amine molecules. The system
is mapped onto a one-dimensional Ising model characterized by an on-site
polymer helicity variable and an amine occupancy one. The equilibrium
properties are analyzed at the limit of strong coupling between helicity
induction and amine adsorption and that of non-interacting adsorbant molecules.
We discuss our results in view of recent experimental results
Free-space optical communication employing subcarrier modulation and spatial diversity in atmospheric turbulence channel
An expression for the bit error rate of a multiple subcarrier intensity-modulated atmospheric optical communication system employing spatial diversity is derived. Spatial diversity is used to mitigate scintillation caused by atmospheric turbulence, which is assumed to obey lognormal distribution. Optimal but complex maximum ratio, equal gain combining (EGC) and relatively simple selection combining spatial diversity techniques in a clear atmosphere are considered. Each subcarrier is modulated using binary phase shift keying. Laser irradiance is subsequently modulated by a subcarrier signal, and a direct detection PIN receiver is employed (i.e. intensity modulation/direction detection). At a subcarrier level, coherent demodulation is used to extract the transmitted data/information. The performance of on–off-keying is also presented and compared with the subcarrier intensity modulation under the same atmospheric conditions

Measurement of the cross-section and forward-backward charge asymmetry for the b and c-quark in e+e- annihilation with inclusive muons at sqrt(s) = 58 GeV
We have studied inclusive muon events using all the data collected by the
TOPAZ detector at sqrt(s)=58 GeV with an integrated luminosity of 273pb-1. From
1328 inclusive muon events, we measured the ratio R_qq of the cross section for
qq-bar production to the total hadronic cross section and forward-backward
asymmetry A^q_FB for b and c quarks. The obtained results are R_bb =
0.13+-0.02(stat)+-0.01(syst), R_cc = 0.36+-0.05(stat)+-0.05(syst), A^b_FB =
-0.20+-0.16(stat)+-0.01(syst) and A^c_FB = -0.17+-0.14(stat)+-0.02(syst), in
fair agreement with a prediction of the standard model.Comment: To be published in EPJ C. 24 pages, 12 figure
Observation of a near-threshold omega-J/psi mass enhancement in exclusive B-->K omega J/psi decays
We report the observation of a near-threshold enhancement in the omega-J/psi
invariant mass distribution for exclusive B-->K omega J/psi decays. The results
are obtained from a 253 fb-1 data sample that contains 275 million BB-bar meson
pairs that were collected near the Upsilon(4S) resonance with the Belle
detector at the KEKB asymmetric energy e+e- collider. The statistical
significance of the omega-J/psi mass enhancement is estimated to be greater
than 8 sigma.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures, submitted to Physical Review Letter
An Improved Description of the Dielectric Breakdown in Oxides Based on a Generalized Weibull distribution
In this work, we address modal parameter fluctuations in statistical
distributions describing charge-to-breakdown and/or
time-to-breakdown during the dielectric breakdown regime of
ultra-thin oxides, which are of high interest for the advancement of electronic
technology. We reobtain a generalized Weibull distribution (-Weibull), which
properly describes data when oxide thickness fluctuations are
present, in order to improve reliability assessment of ultra-thin oxides by
time-to-breakdown extrapolation and area scaling. The incorporation
of fluctuations allows a physical interpretation of the -Weibull
distribution in connection with the Tsallis statistics. In support to our
results, we analyze data of SiO-based MOS devices obtained
experimentally and theoretically through a percolation model, demonstrating an
advantageous description of the dielectric breakdown by the -Weibull
distribution.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figure
Measurement of the forward-backward asymmetries for charm- and bottom-quark pair productions at =58GeV with electron tagging
We have measured, with electron tagging, the forward-backward asymmetries of
charm- and bottom-quark pair productions at =58.01GeV, based on
23,783 hadronic events selected from a data sample of 197pb taken with
the TOPAZ detector at TRISTAN. The measured forward-backward asymmetries are
and , which are consistent with the standard model
predictions.Comment: 19 pages, Latex format (article), 5 figures included. to be published

Observation of and Evidence for

evidence for , which are CP eigenstate decay modes.
These results are obtained from of data collected at
the resonance with the Belle detector at the KEKB
collider. We measure the branching fractions with a significance of , and
with a significance of . The last error
listed is due to uncertainty in the number of produced pairs.Comment: 5 pages, 2 figures, 2 tables, published in PR
Search for the Lepton-Flavor-Violating Decay at Belle
We have searched for the Lepton Flavor Violating decay using a data sample of 84.3 fb accumulated with the Belle detector
at KEK. The -meson was detected through the decay modes: and . No signal candidates are found, and we
obtain an upper limit for the branching fraction at the 90% confidence level.Comment: Submitted to Phys.Rev.Let
Search for CP Violation in the Decays
We have searched for CP violation in the decays

corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 791 fb collected with the
Belle detector. No evidence of significant CP violation is observed. We report
the most precise CP asymmetry measurement in the decay to date: . We also report the first measurements of
CP asymmetries in the decays and : and , respectively
