    Regularity for entropy solutions of parabolic p-Laplacian type equations

    In this note we give some summability results for entropy solutions of the nonlinear parabolic equation ut - div ap(x, [del] u)= f in ]0,T[x [omega] with initial datum in L 1 ([omega]) and assuming Dirichlet's boundary condition, where ap(., .) is a Carathéodory function satisfying the classical Leray-Lions hypotheses, f [member] L 1 (]0,T[x [omega]) and [omega] is a domain in R N. We find spaces of type L r (0,T ; M q ([omega])) containing the entropy solution and its gradient. We also include some summability results when f = 0 and the p-Laplacian equation is considered

    In the present paper we study the behaviour as pp goes to 11 of the weak solutions to the problems {div(upp2up)=fin Ωup=0on Ω, \begin{cases} -\operatorname{div} \bigl(|\nabla u_p|^{p-2}\nabla u_p\bigr)=f &\text{in } \Omega\\ u_p=0 &\text{on } \partial\Omega, \end{cases} where Ω\Omega is a bounded open set of RN{\mathbb R}^N (N2)(N\ge 2) with Lipschitz boundary and p > 1. As far as the datum ff is concerned, we analyze several cases: the most general one is fW1,(Ω)f\in W^{-1,\infty}(\Omega). We also illustrate our results by means of remarks and examples

    Yeasts associated with the production of distilled alcoholic beverages

    Distilled alcoholic beverages are produced firstly by fermenting sugars emanating from cereal starches (in the case of whiskies), sucrose-rich plants (in the case of rums), fructooligosaccharide-rich plants (in the case of tequila) or from fruits (in the case of brandies). Traditionally, such fermentations were conducted in a spontaneous fashion, relying on indigenous microbiota, including wild yeasts. In modern practices, selected strains of Saccharomyces cerevisiae are employed to produce high levels of ethanol together with numerous secondary metabolites (eg. higher alcohols, esters, carbonyls etc.) which greatly influence the final flavour and aroma characteristics of spirits following distillation of the fermented wash. Therefore, distillers, like winemakers, must carefully choose their yeast strain which will be very important in providing the alcohol content and the sensory profiles of spirit beverages. This Chapter discusses yeast and fermentation aspects associated with the production of selected distilled spirits and highlights similarities and differences with the production of wine

    Dendritic cells in cancer immunology and immunotherapy

    Dendritic cells (DCs) are a diverse group of specialized antigen-presenting cells with key roles in the initiation and regulation of innate and adaptive immune responses. As such, there is currently much interest in modulating DC function to improve cancer immunotherapy. Many strategies have been developed to target DCs in cancer, such as the administration of antigens with immunomodulators that mobilize and activate endogenous DCs, as well as the generation of DC-based vaccines. A better understanding of the diversity and functions of DC subsets and of how these are shaped by the tumour microenvironment could lead to improved therapies for cancer.     Measurement of the top quark mass using events with a single reconstructed top quark in pp collisions at s\sqrt{s} = 13 TeV

    A measurement of the top quark mass is performed using a data sample enriched with single top quark events produced in the t channel. The study is based on proton- proton collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35.9 fb1^{-1}, recorded at s\sqrt{s} = 13 TeV by the CMS experiment at the LHC in 2016. Candidate events are selected by requiring an isolated high-momentum lepton (muon or electron) and exactly two jets, of which one is identified as originating from a bottom quark. Multivariate discriminants are designed to separate the signal from the background. Optimized thresholds are placed on the discriminant outputs to obtain an event sample with high signal purity. The top quark mass is found to be 172.13+0.76^{+0.76}0.77_{-0.77} GeV, where the uncertainty includes both the statistical and systematic components, reaching sub-GeV precision for the first time in this event topology. The masses of the top quark and antiquark are also determined separately using the lepton charge in the final state, from which the mass ratio and difference are determined to be 0.9952+0.0079^{+0.0079}0.0104_{-0.0104} and 0.83+1.79^{+1.79}1.35_{-1.35} GeV, respectively. The results are consistent with CPT invariance
