    Behaviour and hydraulic performances of composite breakwter under higher wave than design wave

    Coastal and harbor structures should be resilient so that the hydraulic performances of the structures will not decreased rapidly at the ultimate state where the incident wave height exceeds the design wave. In this study, the behavior of the caissons of composite breakwaters and the hydraulic performance at the ultimate state are measured through a hydraulic experiment. The influence of the damage to a caisson on the behavior of the adjacent one is also investigated. The authors show that the sliding distance of the caisson for the largest incident wave height in the case where the caissons with the same safety factors are installed in a row is larger than those in the cases where one of the caissons has a smaller safety factor and where one of the caissons is intentionally overturned

    Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisa kualitas layanan berdasarkan persepsi konsumen di Bank Nobu Cabang Manado. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian yang bersifat deskriptif dan menggunakan metode kuantitatif yang memakai alat analisis Importance Performance Analysis (IPA). kuesioner disebar ke seluruh 100 karyawan di Bank Nobu Cabang Manado. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dimensi kualitas layanan Daya Tanggap (Responsiveness) berada pada prioritas utama dimana perlu lebih diperhatikan lagi kinerja Perusahaan untuk dimensi ini agar mampu meningkatkan kepuasan nasabah Bank Nobu Cabang Manado. Jaminan (Assurance) dan Empati (Empathy) adalah dimensi-dimensi yang perlu dipertahankan kinerjanya oleh Perusahaan karena selain kepentingan nasabah yang tinggi akan kedua dimensi ini didukung juga dengan kinerja dari Bank Nobu akan dimensi ini yang baik sehingga perlu dipertahankan kinerjanya. Dimensi Bukti Fisik (Tangibles) merupakan dimensi yang memiliki tingkat kinerja Perusahaan dan kepentingan nasabah yang rendah sehingga tidak terlalu di perhatikan oleh nasabah

    A Study on the Ability of the Third Year Students of English Study Program Fkip Ur in Writing Sequence of Events of Reed's Movie Yes Man

    The purpose of this study is to find out the third year students' ability of English Study Program in writing sequence of events of Yes Man movie. This research focus on the accuracy in grammar, vocabulary mastery, the mechanics, arrange the form and style and ease of communication (fluency) based on the movie. Data were collected using writing test, particularly writing the sequence of events the movie. The research finding are as follows: firstly, the ability of the students based on three raters in writing plot of movie is 70.37 which is in Average to Good level. Second, the students' average score based on three raters for Grammar aspect is 3.49, the average score for Mechanics is 3.54, in Vocabulary aspect the average score is 3.66, the students' average score for Form is 3.31 and the last average score is Fluency, which is 3.39. The highest score obtained by the students is in Vocabulary aspect and the lowest score is in Form aspect

    Tingginya permintaan akan kendaraan sepeda motor membuat Perusahaan pembiayaan yang ada di Kota Manado bersaing ketat untuk memperoleh konsumen. Tingkat kesuksesan Perusahaan pembiayaan dipengaruhi dengan seberapa besar kepuasan yang dirasakan melalui kualitas pelayanan, kualitas produk dan kepercayaan dalam persepsi konsumen. Tujuan penelitian untuk mengetahui pengaruh kualitas pelayanan, kualitas produk dan kepercayaan, baik secara simultan maupun parsial terhadap kepuasan konsumen. Objek penelitian adalah PT. FIFGROUP Cabang Manado. Populasi penelitian adalah konsumen pada tahun 2014 dan sampel penelitian sebanyak 100 responden. Alat analisis menggunakan analisis regresi berganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kualitas pelayanan, kualitas produk dan kepercayaan memiliki pengaruh positif dan signifikan baik secara simultan maupun parsial terhadap kepuasan konsumen. Pihak manajemen sebaiknya memperhatikan harapan dan penilaian konsumen agar terciptanya kepuasan konsumen dalam menggunakan jasa Perusahaan.     Optical Phonon Lasing in Semiconductor Double Quantum Dots

    We propose optical phonon lasing for a double quantum dot (DQD) fabricated in a semiconductor substrate. We show that the DQD is weakly coupled to only two LO phonon modes that act as a natural cavity. The lasing occurs for pumping the DQD via electronic tunneling at rates much higher than the phonon decay rate, whereas an antibunching of phonon emission is observed in the opposite regime of slow tunneling. Both effects disappear with an effective thermalization induced by the Franck-Condon effect in a DQD fabricated in a carbon nanotube with a strong electron-phonon coupling.Comment: 8 pages, 4 figure

    Replacement of multiyear sea ice and changes in the open water season duration in the Beaufort Sea since 2004

    The last decade has witnessed the nine lowest Arctic September sea ice extents in the observational record. It also forms the most recent third of the long-term trend in that record, which reached -13.4% decade-1 in 2015. While hemispheric analyses paint a compelling picture of sea ice loss across the Arctic, the situation with multiyear ice in the Beaufort Sea is particularly dire. This study was undertaken in light of substantial changes that have occurred in the extent of summer multiyear sea ice in the Arctic inferred from the passive microwave record. To better elucidate these changes at a sub-regional scale, we use data from the Canadian Ice Service archive, the most direct observations of sea ice stage-of-development available. We also build upon the only previous sea ice climatological analysis for Canada's western Arctic region by sea ice stage-of-development that ended in 2004. The annual evolution of sea ice by stage of development in Canada's western Arctic changed dramatically between 1983 and 2014. The rate of these changes and their spatial prevalence were most prominent in the last decade. In summer, total sea ice loss occurred via reductions in old and first-year sea ice over increasingly large areas and over more months per year. Resultant delay of thermodynamic freeze up has increased the annual open water duration in the study region. The winter sea ice cover was increasingly composed of first-year sea ice at the expense of old ice. Breakup timing has not significantly changed in the region

    Biomanufacture of nano-Pd(0) by Escherichia coli and electrochemical activity of bio-Pd(0) made at the expense of H2 and formate as electron donors

    Objective: Palladised cells of Desulfovibrio desulfuricans and Shewanella oneidensis have been reported as fuel cell electrocatalysts but growth at scale may be unattractive/costly; we have evaluated the potential of using E. coli, using H2/formate for Pd-nanoparticle manufacture. Results: Using ‘bio-Pd’ made under H2 (20 wt%) cyclic voltammograms suggested electrochemical activity of bio-NPs in a native state, attributed to proton adsorption/desorption. Bio-Pd prepared using formate as the electron donor gave smaller, well separated NPs; this material showed no electrochemical properties, and hence little potential for fuel cell use using a simple preparation technique. Bio-Pd on S. oneidensis gave similar results to those obtained using E. coli. Conclusion: Bio-Pd is sufficiently conductive to make an E. coli-derived electrochemically active material on intact, unprocessed bacterial cells if prepared at the expense of H2, showing potential for fuel cell applications using a simple one-step preparation method
