    Cet article présente la mesure de la période, T1/2 = (2,15 ± 0,08) ns du premier niveau excité de 40Ca. Les mesures de coïncidences différées dans 132I ont permis de fixer l'ordre d'émission des deux rayons gamma de 52 keV et 232 keV ; les périodes sont égales à T1/2 = (0,96 ± 0,04) ns pour le niveau à 52 keV et à T1/2 = (1,42 ± 0,05) ns pour le niveau à 284 keV. Ces valeurs, et des mesures du coefficient de conversion interne α K, permettent d'attribuer les ordres multipolaires M1 + E2 et E2 respectivement pour les transitions de 52 et 232 keV

    Un multicompteur comprenant sept détecteurs NaI(T1) 3" x 3" a été construit. Il permet de mesurer simultanément les valeurs correspondant à 16 angles de la fonction de corrélation angulaire W(θ1, θ 2, ϕ) ou les sept géométries définies par Litherland et Ferguson. Cet ensemble a été expérimenté avec succès dans le cas de corrélations angulaires bien connues aussi bien en désintégrations radioactives qu'en réactions nucléaires

    Efficacy of closed reduction of nasal fractures-a retrospective analysis with focus on factors affecting functional and aesthetic outcomes

    BACKGROUND Nasal bone fractures are the most common type of facial bone fractures. While the nasal anatomy and closed reduction techniques of nasal fractures are well described, there is a paucity of data reporting on the need for revision rhinoplasty. The objective of this study is to analyze the factors affecting the outcome and need for revision rhinoplasty in patients who underwent closed reduction for nasal bone fracture. METHODS From 2010 to 2020, a total of 417 consecutive patients underwent closed nasal reduction. Medical files of the patients were reviewed retrospectively. The rate of rhinoplasty after fracture consolidation was determined. Factors influencing the need for revision rhinoplasty were assessed using univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses. RESULTS Forty-seven patients (11.3%) required revision rhinoplasty after fracture healing. Patients who had suffered an additional septum fracture were more likely to undergo rhinoplasty. The risk of the need for open revision rhinoplasty after fracture healing was increased for patients complaining of airway obstruction at the time of cast removal after closed reduction. CONCLUSION A certain number of patients will require secondary revision rhinoplasty after closed reduction of a nasal fracture. Subjective airway obstruction at the time of cast removal after closed reduction is a predictor for revision rhinoplasty. Prospective studies are required to support the findings of this investigation

    Spectroscopy of 34,35Si^{34,35}Si by β\beta decay: sd-fp shell gap and single-particle states

    The 34,35Alβ^{34,35}Al\beta decays were studied at the CERN on-line mass separator ISOLDE by βγ,βγγ\beta-\gamma, \beta-\gamma-\gamma and βnγ\beta-n-\gamma measurements, in order to corroborate thelow-level description of 34Si^{34}Si and to obtain the first information on the level structure of the N=21 isotope 35Si^{35}Si. Earlier observed γ\gamma lines in 34Al^{34} Al decay were confirmed and new gamma transitions following both beta decay and β\beta-delayed neutron emission were established. The first level scheme in 35Si^{35}Si, including three excited states at 910, 974 and 2168 keV, is consistent with Jπ=3/2J^{\pi} =3/2^{-} and 3/2+3/2^{+} for the first two states respectively. Beta-decay half-life of T1/2=38.6(4)T_{1/2} = 38.6 (4) ms and beta-delayed neutron branching PnP_{n} value (Pn=41(13)(P_{n} =41(13) %) were measured unambiguously. The significance of the single-particle energy determination at N=21, Z=14, for assessing the effective interaction in sd-fp shell-model calculations, is discussed and illustrated by predictions for different n-rich isotopes

    Loss of the mammal-specific tectorial membrane component CEA cell adhesion molecule 16 (CEACAM16) leads to hearing impairment at low and high frequencies

    The vertebrate-restricted carcinoembryonic antigen gene family evolves extremely rapidly. Among their widely expressed members, the mammal-specific, secreted CEACAM16 is exceptionally well conserved and specifically expressed in the inner ear. To elucidate a potential auditory function we inactivated murine Ceacam16 by homologous recombination. In young Ceacam16-/- mice the hearing threshold for frequencies below 10 kHz and above 22 kHz was raised. This hearing impairment progressed with age. A similar phenotype is observed in hearing-impaired members of Family 1070 with non-syndromic autosomal dominant hearing loss (DFNA4) who carry a missense mutation in CEACAM16. CEACAM16 was found in interdental and Deiters cells and was deposited in the tectorial membrane of the cochlea between postnatal day 12 and 15, when hearing starts in mice. In cochlear sections of Ceacam16-/- mice tectorial membranes were significantly more often stretched out as compared to wild-type mice where they were mostly contracted and detached from the outer hair cells. Homotypic cell sorting observed after ectopic cell surface expression of the carboxy-terminal immunoglobulin variable-like N2 domain of CEACAM16 indicated that CEACAM16 can interact in trans. Furthermore, Western blot analyses of membrane-bound CEACAM16 under reducing and non-reducing conditions demonstrated oligomerization via unpaired cysteines. Taken together, CEACAM16 probably can form higher order structures with other tectorial membrane proteins such as α-tectorin and β-tectorin and influences the physical properties of the tectorial membrane. Evolution of CEACAM16 might have been an important step for the specialization of the mammalian cochlea allowing hearing over an extended frequency range

    Development of a Benchmark Eddy Flux Evapotranspiration Dataset for Evaluation of Satellite-Driven Evapotranspiration Models Over the CONUS

    A large sample of ground-based evapotranspiration (ET) measurements made in the United States, primarily from eddy covariance systems, were post-processed to produce a benchmark ET dataset. The dataset was produced primarily to support the intercomparison and evaluation of the OpenET satellite-based remote sensing ET (RSET) models and could also be used to evaluate ET data from other models and approaches. OpenET is a web-based service that makes field-delineated and pixel-level ET estimates from well-established RSET models readily available to water managers, agricultural producers, and the public. The benchmark dataset is composed of flux and meteorological data from a variety of providers covering native vegetation and agricultural settings. Flux footprint predictions were developed for each station and included static flux footprints developed based on average wind direction and speed, as well as dynamic hourly footprints that were generated with a physically based model of upwind source area. The two footprint prediction methods were rigorously compared to evaluate their relative spatial coverage. Data from all sources were post-processed in a consistent and reproducible manner including data handling, gap-filling, temporal aggregation, and energy balance closure correction. The resulting dataset included 243,048 daily and 5,284 monthly ET values from 194 stations, with all data falling between 1995 and 2021. We assessed average daily energy imbalance using 172 flux sites with a total of 193,021 days of data, finding that overall turbulent fluxes were understated by about 12% on average relative to available energy. Multiple linear regression analyses indicated that daily average latent energy flux may be typically understated slightly more than sensible heat flux. This dataset was developed to provide a consistent reference to support evaluation of RSET data being developed for a wide range of applications related to water accounting and water resources management at field to watershed scales

    Tracing the dynamic life story of a Bronze Age Female

    YesAncient human mobility at the individual level is conventionally studied by the diverse application of suitable techniques (e.g. aDNA, radiogenic strontium isotopes, as well as oxygen and lead isotopes) to either hard and/or soft tissues. However, the limited preservation of coexisting hard and soft human tissues hampers the possibilities of investigating high-resolution diachronic mobility periods in the life of a single individual. Here, we present the results of a multidisciplinary study of an exceptionally well preserved circa 3.400-year old Danish Bronze Age female find, known as the Egtved Girl. We applied biomolecular, biochemical and geochemical analyses to reconstruct her mobility and diet. We demonstrate that she originated from a place outside present day Denmark (the island of Bornholm excluded), and that she travelled back and forth over large distances during the final months of her life, while consuming a terrestrial diet with intervals of reduced protein intake. We also provide evidence that all her garments were made of non-locally produced wool. Our study advocates the huge potential of combining biomolecular and biogeochemical provenance tracer analyses to hard and soft tissues of a single ancient individual for the reconstruction of high-resolution human mobility.The Danish National Research Foundation; The Carlsberg Foundation, L'Oreal Denmark-UNESCO; The ERC agreement no. 26944
