Wikis are popular tools commonly used to support distributedcollaborative work. Wikis can be seen as virtual scrapbooksthat anyone can edit without having any specific technicalknow-how. The Wikipedia is a flagship example of areal-word application of wikis. Due to the large scale ofWikipedia its difficult to easily grasp much of the informationthat is stored in this wiki. We address one particularaspect of this issue by looking at the revision history of eacharticle. Plotting the revision activity in a timeline we exposethe complete articles history in a easily understandableformat. We present WikiChanges, a web-based applicationdesigned to plot an articles revision timeline in realtime. WikiChanges also includes a web browser extensionthat incorporates activity sparklines in the real Wikipedia. Finally, we introduce a revisions summarization task thataddresses the need to understand what occurred during agiven set of revisions. We present a first approach to thistask using tag clouds to present the revisions made

Analysis of leaf nutrient contents can demonstrate plant nutritional status, identify symptoms of deficiency and toxicity, and evaluate the need to adjust fertilization programs. This research determined N:P:K:Ca:S rates for optimal nutrition of Rangpur lime - RL (Citrus limonia Osb.) rootstock, in an experiment arranged in a fractional factorial design of the (¹/25) 5(4) type, with 25 treatments distributed within five blocks. Seedlings of RL were transplanted into 3.8-dm³ containers filled with commercial growing media, when plant height = 10 cm, in a nursery. Treatments consisted of the following nutrient rates (g per plant): N = 0.31, 0.62, 1.25, 2.5 and 5; K = 0.4, 0.62, 1.25, 2.5 and 5; P = 0.35, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0; and Ca = 3.5, 5.0, 6.0, 7.0 and 8.0. Phosphorus and Ca were applied to the compost before transplant of seedlings, while N and K were applied later and total amounts were split into 20 weekly applications via fertigation. Nutrient sources were triple super phosphate, gypsum, NH4NO3 and KCl. Leaf nutrient concentrations of five-mo-old plants were high or in excess for N, P, K and S. Calcium and Mg concentrations were low. Greater dry mass of plants were observed at nutrient rates of N = 3.5, P = 2.7, K = 2.0, and Ca = 6.5 g per plant

LncRNAs present a very stringent cell-type/tissue specificity being potential candidates for therapeutical applications during aging and disease. As example, targeting of MALAT1, a highly conserved lncRNA originally identified in metastatic non-small cell lung cancer, has shown promising results in cancer regression. Nevertheless, the regulation and specificity of MALAT1 have not been directly addressed. Interestingly, MALAT1 locus is spanned by an antisense transcript named TALAM1. Methods: Here using a collection of breast cancer cells and in vitro and in vivo migration assays we characterized the dynamics of expression and demonstrated that TALAM1 regulates and synergizes with MALAT1 during tumorigenesis. Results: Down-regulation of TALAM1 was shown to greatly impact on the capacity of breast cancer cells to migrate in vitro or to populate the lungs of immunocompromised mice. Additionally, we demonstrated that TALAM1 cooperates with MALAT1 in the regulation of the properties guiding breast cancer aggressiveness and malignancy. Conclusions: By characterizing this sense/anti-sense pair we uncovered the complexity of MALAT1 locus regulation, describing new potential candidates for cancer targeting. This work was supported by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (FCT) (PTDC/BIM-MED/0032/2014); UID/BIM/50005/2019, project funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT)/ Ministério da Ciência, Tecnologia e Ensino Superior (MCTES) through Fundos do Orçamento de Estado; LISBOA-01-0145-FEDER-016394, projeto cofinanciado pelo FEDER através POR Lisboa 2020 - Programa Operacional Regional de Lisboa, do PORTUGAL 2020 e pela Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia; LISBOA-01-0145-FEDER-028534, projeto cofinanciado pelo FEDER através POR Lisboa 2020 - Programa Operacional Regional de Lisboa, do PORTUGAL 2020 e pela Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia. Ancestry estimation in forensic anthropology: accuracy of the AncesTrees software in a Brazilian sample

    Get PDF
The objective of this study is to analyze the accuracy and applicability of the AncesTrees software with respect to a set of cranial measurements of a Brazilian sample consisting of 114 identified skulls from two osteological collections, predominantly composed of European (n = 59), African (n = 35), and admixed individuals (n = 20). Twenty-four different craniometric measurements are performed and input to AncesTrees via two algorithms, one of which is used in three configurations, with different ancestral groups integrated in the model. The software exhibits superior performance in the estimation of European individuals, reaching 73% accuracy, compared with 66% in the African individuals. Those individuals classified as admixed produce a variety of ancestral classifications, mainly European. Overall, the most accurate combination of AncesTrees is obtained using ancestralForest with only the European and African groups integrated into the algorithm, where the accuracy reaches 70%. The applicability of this software to a specific population is fragile because of the high admixing load, making it necessary to create a more representative anthropometric database of the Brazilian people. Key points: Ancestry estimation methods are seldom validated in Brazil.AncesTrees performed poorly on our sample, with a maximum accuracy of 70%.Brazil's highly mixed population hinders ancestry estimation.Mixed individuals (pardos) are predominantly classified as Europeans. The insertion of Brazilian metric data into the AncesTrees database would produce better results.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Get PDF
The introduction and popularization of laparoscopic cholecystectomy has been accompanied with a considerable increase in perforation of gallbladder during this procedure (10%--32%), with the occurrence of intraperitoneal bile spillage and the consequent increase in the incidence of lost gallstones (0.2%--20%). Recently the complications associated with these stones have been documented in the literature. We report a rare complication occurring in an 81-year-old woman who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy and developed cutaneous fistula to the umbilicus and elimination of biliary stones through the urinary tract. During the cholecystectomy, the gall bladder was perforated, and bile and gallstones were spilled into the peritoneal cavity. Two months after the initial procedure there was exteriorization of fistula through the umbilicus, with intermittent elimination of biliary stones. After eleven months, acute urinary retention occurred due to biliary stones in the bladder, which were removed by cystoscopy. We conclude that efforts should be concentrated on avoiding the spillage of stones during the surgery, and that no rules exist for indicating a laparotomy simply to retrieve these lost gallstones.

Brazil has been trying to become a key player in the specialized market through the production of fine chocolate. However, there is still no rules about the chemical quality of cocoa beans that allows it to be grouped by micro-regions. In this context, the objective of this work was to determine some chemical parameters of cocoa samples, aiming to contribute to the creation of the designation of origin for the cocoa produced in the south of Bahia. For this propose, proteins, lipids, total minerals, and fatty acid profile analysis were performed. The results obtained were correlated using multivariate statistical tests. The chemical composition of the cocoa beans, allowed to differentiate samples of cocoa, revealing the formation of three groups of samples. The two main components (lipids and proteins) were analysed together, characterizing the producing region. Regarding the analysis of the fatty acid profile, they showed that the cocoa harvested in the main season presents a higher influence of saturated fatty acids, while in the early season the higher influence is of unsaturated fatty acids. Multivariate techniques were able to group the different types of cocoa according to their chemical profile, helping to create an origin denomination for those produced in Southern Bahia

The objective of this study was to evaluate the physical and chemical properties and carbon storage in different agricultural production systems in medium-texture soils in the subtropical region of Brazil. Soil samples were collected in three management systems: Pasture (PP), no-till (NT), and no-till + Urochloa (NT+U), in addition to a native forest area (NF), in four soil layers up to 0.40 m. Chemical and physical soil analyses were performed. Bulk density and penetration resistance results did not indicate soil compaction in the areas managed after 24 years. The PP area had higher total porosity and microporosity values than the NT and NT+U areas. The PP area had the highest values of the sum of bases and CEC. NT+U and PP areas had the highest TOC contents and carbon storage potential up to the 0-0.40 m layer. The PP area in the 0-0.40 m profile had 52.89%, 72.21%, 79.79%, and 97.08% Mg ha-1 more stocks than the NF area in the four soil layers evaluated. In the 0.20-0.40 m stratum, the NT+U area had StockC values of 11.21 Mg ha-1, which was 17.62% more than the NT area. These results show the potential of grasslands for carbon storage in medium-texture soils under subtropical climates, mainly due to the characteristics of grasslands that can produce significant amounts of biomass constantly deposited in the soil.O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar as propriedades físicas e químicas e o armazenamento de carbono em diferentes sistemas de produção agrícola em solos de textura média na região subtropical do Brasil.
